Eau de Tommi Sooni I by Tommi Sooni 2010

Hellooooo Posse! It’s Portia from AustralianPerfumeJunkies with an AUSTRALIAN niche perfume brand!! Tommi Sooni are our first international niche brand and I am justifiably proud of their work. It’s outstanding and can stand up to the best entrenched niche brands and wave a flag of equality. I know, it’s a big call but I think they are doing fabulous work. The whole Tommi Sooni range is alivew and vibrant but seems to hark back to perfumery from days of old, when fragrance was the real deal…

Fragranrica gives these featured accords:
Top: Lime, lemon leaves, bergamot, bay laurel
Heart: Jonquil, metallic rose, Cuban cigar accord
Base: Huon pine, sandalwood, benzoin, oakmoss

Whoosh! Lovely citrus zings out and is instantly counterpointed by bay. This green against green acts like an overture telling us exactly what to expect from our ride with Eau de Tommi Sooni I. We are about embark on a ride that shows how different the same side of the coin can be. Yes, citrus and bay are both green but in the opening they are happily warring against each other, the sweet and the herbacious greens. A fun and interesting blend that never quite does, they are pushing against each other and never really harmonious. I like it, no I LOVE IT!

After a short time I get a creamy soapiness that moves through and shivers against an animalic breathiness. Again both quite similar, fatty, animal, and a bit furry but both very different and side by side in a fragrance they make for extremely beautiful, not quite seamless siblings. This contrapuntal in scent keeps my nose aware constantly of the changes, swoops, weaves and writhing for supremecy. No time for nasal burn out because the scent never stays the same for long. I think Brett Schlitter has done an extraordinary job and with broad strokes created a masterpiece of detail and intricacy, where we can immerse ourselves in the battle of scent.

As the heart fades we get depth: deep, sweet and warm depths that after all the fireworks of Eau de Tommi Sooni I in the first two hours now becomes a calmer, softer fragrance that hints of wooden kitchens and soft incandescent light playing over faces enjoying afternoon tea and a cuppa on a cool Sunday afternoon. The warmth of the people and their wooly jumpers & scarves on the backs of chairs, with everyone just enjoying the food, the company and a day off to spend together. Eau de Tommi Sooni I’s dry down is the hug hello, the joy of visiting and the calm of family and friends, all in a spritz.

a nice line. It’s suitable for me

  • Ann says:

Portia, I agree — this is a great line! And so cool that they’re Aussie-based. I can’t recall the names of the two I like best, but they’re FB-worthy for sure one day 🙂 Enjoy your travels!

You are dead on when you say they can match up to any niche brand and that their fragrances harken back to REAL perfume days! It’s what I love best… they smell like proper, vintage perfume.

    IS IT SUNDAY YET????

Did I ever tell you about my first Tommi Sooni experience? The first scent…..a gorgeous slicker of leather…I got that slicker when I was driver around a curve in a cornfield…nearly drove off the road! LOL!

Do you know….I have never been able to replicate that gorgeous hit of leather? I mean, the scent is still stunningly beautiful….but Never That Leather Ever Again. 🙁

    Hello, Portia-
I bought Passarelle this summer, unsniffed. I could have bought Jinx and Tarentella too-kicking myself that I didn’t. Passarelle is so beautiful, I don’t even have words to describe it. And the packaging is so beautiful. It’s a very special line, for sure.

  • Farouche says:

Oh, I do like this one and much prefer it to TS II. Great review…you really capture the quality of this fragrance!

  • Jennie says:

    Hi Portia

I’m an Aussie and I’ve never heard of this brand. It definitely sounds try-worthy, where can you buy it?
