La Folie de Noël by DSH Perfumes

Ho Ho Ho POSSEEEEEE! It’s so close I can taste the credit card debt. 5 weeks. I am already here in Sydney getting into the Christmas Spirit, not spirits: though it was a very near thing. Just for fun I dug out my La Folie de Noël to help get me in the mood for doing my Christmas Cards! Last year we were in the USA around this time and with selling and moving house and all that goes with that there was no great card send in 2014. I felt so freaking naughty.

For those that don’t celebrate Christmas I am sorry this must be entirely boring for you. Still, you don’t need to be Christian to enjoy La Folie de Noël or the fun and pageantry of Christmas.

Fragrantica gives these featured accords in one line:
Star anise, whipped cream, incense

Star anise in the spotlight, lovely licorice spiced up! I get little reminders of nutmeg, vanilla and a hint of Chinese five spice, the whipped cream is sweetened to the point that it’s a caramel ice cream with a dream of Scotch whiskey tagging along to round it out. For the whole life of La Folie de Noël a cool wash of unburned incense floats gently underneath.

So if you are looking to smell a LOT like Christmas in the lead up or on the day then Dawn has this little ripper that I completely adore. If La Folie de Noël doesn’t get you in the Jingle Bells mood then NOTHING will.

Though La Folie de Noël starts out big and lavish it softens out within an hour and after two hours I have a warm vanilla cream and pudding glow that lives softly at a very close level for ages. My thought is that it’s totally wearable and could even be worn in your office, unless it is totally frag phobic.

Are there any frags you wear that are seasonal? Do you spritz beyond those seasons? Ever?

I have not tried any DSH but am going to check her out now, this soinds yummy. Would spritz anything outside of the season if I felt like it!

    • Portia says:

      Hey there JackieB,
Dawn has recently changed her base to something with a much higher flashpoint so she can send stuff overseas. YAY! Very exciting news.

  • I myself am most definitely NOT frag-phobic.I love the sound of this.

Hello there Neil, What a pleasure to see you.
I’ve just been at your blog reading your Wandering the Fragrant Streets of Japan piece. Heaven, as always.
HA! You are the position diametrically apposed to Frag-Phobic, whatever that may be.

    Hey Portia,
I wear Tea for Two in the run up to Christmas. Not typical, but it does have that cinnamon note which makes it feel festive for me.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Tara,
I can imagine you wafting T42. I love its dark smokiness and how the fragrance really changes through its lifespan and then cycles back around. One of my absolute faves and I bet it’s killer during your cold Christmas season.

I usually have gone for vintage Replique at Christmas time, or Parfum Sacre. Lately I have discovered DSH Cimabue and am madly in love with it, along with Cafe Noir. I love spicy frags in Winter, and may wear these right through February.

P.S. …and I plan to try La Folie de Noel, as well as other of the wintry ones from Dawn’s line!

    • Portia says:

      Hi there Queen Cupcake,
Cimabue is gorgeous, I too have a 10ml spritz of it.
While you’re trying get a sample of Giverny In Bloom, I just ordered my bottle. MMMMMM

Howdy, dear Portia! Yum, yum! Your dee-lish review of this is ticking all the boxes for me. I was looking for something new for the holiday season and this just might be it, so a-sampling I will go! Thanks bunches for the heads up. Hugs …

      Hey there Ann,
It’s always so nice to see you here. Another great thing about Dawn is the range of sizes she sells her fragrances in, I love that you can buy 5 or 10ml of most things. Who really needs 100ml of anything?
