Vintage Miss Dior EdT

Hello Posse! Vintage Miss Dior EdT is about as close to a signature as I have. There is quite a stockpile of it here and it fits every mood like a glove. There are a few fragrances that sit happily alongside it as goes with anything, anytime, anywhere, stand out powerhouses yet curiously comfy. Guerlain has given me Mitsouko and Shalimar. There are Niki de Saint Phalle and Jacomo Silences, Clinique Aromatics Elixir, CHANEL Boy and Coco. Neela Vermeire Mohur, Mona di Orio Vanille and Eau Absolue and Cacharel Liberté too. I’m sure there are others that I’ve forgotten.

Vintage Miss Dior EdT

Here you can see one of my bottles with the banged up lid. It’s still here but not what I’m using today. I’m currently using a 100ml. It has propellant giving it the most outrageous gush, it also spurts out the sides so I get an ice cold blast most unexpectedly every time. Vintage Miss Dior EdT is special, it’s beauty stems from the furriness. Weird adjective for fragrance right but in this case it’s so well placed. Vintage Miss Dior EdT can wrap you up like the most expensive silk cashmere scarf, elegant and comfortable, impeccably stylish and yet curiously welcoming.

The legend goes that Christian Dior asked perfumers Jean Carles and Paul Vacher to create a fragrance that smells like the feeling of falling in love. It’s probably as close as the world will ever get.

It’s getting harder and harder to find at reasonable prices on the net. One good thing to know is that the fakers haven’t got a hold of it like they have with the CHANELs and Joy. All my purchases except one have been the real deal. Honestly that one could have turned nasty rather than been fake.

Surrender To Chance has vintage Miss Dior EdT samples from $6/ml

Do you wear a particular vintage a lot?

Do you find it hard when you’ve fallen in love with a very specific iteration of a perfume, and you have to contend with the variability of vintage bottles?

I had a knockout PDT mini of Silences, so I bought a sealed 3.4 oz with the same kind of packaging, and just no… I have no idea if it turned, or it’s a mumsy floral-dominant iteration. There’s not the same icy iris overdose; it’s sweeter and fustier. I’ll see if the seller’s return policy holds true, otherwise I don’t know what to do. I wouldn’t want to swap something Not Right, but I’m not sure how much of this is subjective.

  • Berengaria Liedmeier says:

and Mitsouko and Shalimar of course…

  • Berengaria Liedmeier says:

Seems like we are scent twins! Silences, Miss Dior, Niki de SPh, Aromatics, Coco, Mona’s Vanille (which I got on my 50th birthday) : ALL my favorites… Dont know Libertee and Mohur, must find out now…

  • hczerwiec says:

Wow, we are twinsies on the vintage Miss Dior, Silences, Mitsouko, and Coco! I’ve been on a real kick of wearing vintage Miss Dior or vintage Dioressence lately. I think it was you in one of your posts who turned me on to Silences — I had never heard of it, but it is crazy amazing and at $12US was hands-down the best unsniffed purchase I have ever made! It really scratches that Chanel No 19 itch for much less $, so thank you for that!

    • Portia says:

      Hey there HCZERWIEC,
So glad that Silences has hit the spot for you. I went looking for it again last night and it’s getting harder to find and more expensive. If you didn’t buy a backup now’s the time.

  • I adore vintage fragrance! My favorite Dior is Dioressence; I have a beautiful old bottle which smells so much better than my current formulation. I also found a vintage Miss Dior that still smells wonderful. Two small bottles of Coty Emeraude from the 30’s and 50’s are my most beloved vintages, a masterpiece Oriental. Vintage Coty L’Aimant, vintage Molinard Habanita, vintage Lanvin Arpege and My Sin, vintage Guerlain Shalimar and L’Heure Bleu, and vintage Chanel No 5 are also favorites. Vintage Chanel No 5 is the only perfume that I have received fakes or which have turned, purchasing from Ebay sellers. I’ve learned the hard way it is best to always buy perfumes , especially vintage,in sealed boxes. We never know how the bottles were stored over the years; however, much better chance they were not tampered with.
And now I love Niki de Saint Phalle thanks to you. And Coco for winter! I’ve never sampled Silences, which I need to search for.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Kathleen!
What a fabulous round up of vintages.
You can still buy Silences PdT at the discounters. It’s by far my favourite iteration and goes dirt cheap.

I have a beautiful boxed set of vintage Dior Diorissimo from the late 50’s. Original formula and just so beautiful!!! I also have a small purse size bottle of 60’s Gurlean Shalimar, in the crystal decanter, pure parfum and it is exquisite!

    Love the vintage scents Portia!!!

  • Diana says:

I own a few vintage bottles of Shalimar, Miss Dior, both edc and edt, and 3 bottles of Mitsouko, and yet I can’t help looking for more of those on eBay.

  • Eldarwen22 says:

I do have a couple bottles of vintage Miss Dior and will have to drag a bottle out. I do have a few bottles of Deneuve and it’s too expensive on Ebay right now. But I have vintage Bal overload in my house. I really must wear my vintages more.

    • Portia says:

      WOW Eldarwen22,
Deneuve! I have had a couple of decants and continually think I should write about it but never do. When I wear it Deneuve takes all my attention as it wanders through its story. Beautiful!
There’s a bit of Bal around here too. YUM!

  • malsnano86 says:

That vintage Coty Chypre blows my doors off… it was spendy and there isn’t much, so it isn’t a signature, but I love it so much. Emeraude from the 70s was pretty awesome, too, and I have quite a stash of parfum de toilette.

    • Portia says:

      Hey there Malsnano86,
Coty Chypre is hard to fiind, especially on this side of the world. Lucky you.
I’ve tried Emerald a few times too and even had a modern-ish bottle for a while. Even at that point it was very wearable.

  • Musette says:

I have a gorgeous collection of vintage No5 (but of course!) as well as some gorgeous Lanvins (omg – I haz a vintage Arpege that makes me weep with joy) – and my stash of vinty Coty Chypre . Those are my vintage Grails. Oh, and AMOUAGE GOLD vintage (oh, my days!)

    xoxoxo

    • Portia says:

      Hey Musette,
Lanolin made some fabulous stuff. A while ago I came across a packet of 1oz each, sealed parfums in a gold and navy leather case. Turns out they are pristine Arpege and My Sin. Breathtakingly beautiful. I don’t wear them much but do get the out and open the lids to smell the perfect beauty inside.
Oh Yes, Amouage Gold is terrific.

    • Cyndi says:

Where did you ever find vintage Arpege? I would LOVE to get my hands on some. So beautiful! I’ve seen it on ebay, but as I said, I’m a little iffy about purchasing vintage perfumes from them.

      • Portia says:

        Cyndi,
Arpege has a real habit of turning nasty more quickly than a lot of the others. I don’t know why but about half of what I buy is going bad or gone.
        Portia x

        • Karen says:

Odd. I’ve had perfect luck with all the Arpege I’ve purchased through eBay – two 1960s vintage perfumes (1/2 oz and full oz) , and one of the octagonal bottles of EDT that came with a bonus gold bottle with black cap, also full and also perfect. MMM!!!I do love the Arpege!! And I’m stocked up probably until I demise. 🙂

          • Cyndi says:

I would really love to take a chance and purchase some. I LOVED Arpege back in the seventies. I would also like to get Rochas Femme eau de cologne (bottle with the black lace etching on it) and vintage Mitsouko (the splash cologne in the lovely round flat bottle). I think I’ll try ebay and see what happens!

  • Dina C. says:

I had a little vintage Diorella parfum spray beauty that I was gifted by a fragrance gal on MUA and eagerly used it till it was gone. Then I bought a similar vintage Diorissimo parfum spray on ebay. I love the vintage Diors. I think someone gave me a sample smidge of vintage Miss Dior. I’ll have to search it out and wear it today. 🙂 Those vintage Diors are amazing. Also love vintage Arpege and some of those old school classics like Gucci No. 3, Jolie Madame, etc. etc. I feel elegant wearing them. Love your taste in scents, Portia!

    • Portia says:

      Hey DinaC,
That vintage Diorella is now going for STUPID money. I paid a kidney and lung for a bottle of the vintage sealed EdT recently and can’t bring myself to open the damn thing.
Vintages are so fun, I think we snap on taste across the board .

  • rosarita says:

I have a little decant of Miss Dior from the 70s that I wear occasionally but more often just huff 🙂 Like Shiva-woman, I have quite a supply of vintage Shalimar (nowhere near as nice as hers!) and 3 vintage Coco; also a big bottle of Dune (heavenly.) This year I’ve stumbled across a wonderful trove of vintage Obsession including a large kidney shaped bottle of the perfume, at Goodwill of all places. Can’t wait to wear it this winter.

    • Portia says:

Woo Hoo! Nice pickup at the goodwill Rosaria!
DUNE! I have a couple of the PdT bottles here and it’s so precious I never wear it. Must…….

  • Brigitte says:

I have vintage Nocturnes de Caron but it isn’t nearly as old as your Miss Dior! That and Gap Heaven are the two scents that I most associate with “me”. And you know it’s funny, P, but I always associate you with Niki 🙂

    • Portia says:

      Hey Brigitte,
LOVE Nocturnes. It doesn’t get a lot of wear around here but sometimes I get the urge.
      OH Niki! She is divine.
      Portia xx

  • Shiva-woman says:

I have stockpiled vintage Shalimar, enough to last me ’til my 179th birthday. I have two of the absolutely sublime 1960 Par Avion bottles, with seals (one now broken), of the most delicious dark, syrupy, sexy sultry elegant Shalimar. Hmm… I should check my hoard.

  • Cyndi says:

Wow!! That’s great you found authentic vintage Miss Dior! I have to admit I’m always nervous about purchasing any vintage perfume from ebay, or anywhere else. I’m always afraid that they aren’t the real deal or will smell “off”, but there are so many vintage perfumes that I would love to have. I even tried getting samples from an online sample company, but the ones I ordered (Rochas Femme and Arpege) were not at all as I remembered them. Congratulations on your find, and enjoy them!

    • Portia says:

      Hey Cyndi!
It can be very hit & miss with the CHANELs and a couple of the DIORs but Miss Dior doesn’t seem to have many rip offs. I think it’s a bit older so it flew under the fakers radar.
One day when you come to OZ I will give you a vintage sniff fest. Promise.
