Stairway To Heaven by Jul et Mad 2019

Hey there Posse! Went down to the Post Office and there was a package from Jul et Mad. ALWAYS exciting when I get one of these. Anna Maria and I opened it right there in the shop and spritzed ourselves with Stairway To Heaven. Woo Hoo! Folks, it smells like we have a winner. Musette loved their opening three fragrances. I remember the brand being launched and the scentbloggosphere went bonkers for them, great stories, beautiful fragrances and Julien and Madalina were so perfectly aspirational, we all wanted their lives.

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Top: Aldehydes, Bergamot, Orange
Heart: Bulgarian rose, Iris butter, Red berries, Heliotrope
Base: White musk, Vanilla, Patchouli, Ambroxan, Cashmeran, Frankincense, Dynamone

Firstly, Parfumo tells me Ambroxan is one of the main fragrance components of ambergris, Cashmeran is by IFF described as floral, woody, spicy & musky and Dynamone is an amber.

How Does It Smell?

Stairway To Heaven opens all woodsy amber for about the first 5 seconds, suddenly the whole scent changes when a candy sweet citrus, aldehydic oil-slick and fizzy berry overlays the vanilla sweet amber. It’s an abrupt change and has a synthetic skew that I find intriguing. An unsettled and slightly awkward grouping that has me coming back to sniff my arm repeatedly, trying to capture what I’m smelling. It’s elusive. It veers between a cherry chocolate vibe and wood burning farmhouse kitchen on bake day.

Stairway To Heaven by Jul et Mad

The bouquet never really comes alive on my skin. There are floral hints rather than flowers per se. If there are flowers they are the space flower becoming so popular, a crystal representation rather than the photo-realistic recreation.

It’s the Stairway To Heaven warm, cozy base that we get after only about 30 minutes that becomes the enduring scent that lingers on me for hours. Lightly smoky woods give the impression of flame. Amber/vanilla is a dry bakery scent, maybe cooling cookies on a tray. The ambroxan brings a fleshy wood with the merest hint of cool salty breezes. Back all of this with a fluffiness like well loved flannelette sheets warmed to body temp and you have a fair impression of Stairway To Heaven.

Totally unisex, fits most moods from casual to business and I’ve always thought the Jul et Mad bottles perfection.

Did you spend any time with the Juul et Mad oeuvre? Does Stairway To Heaven sound like it might tickle your fancy?

Might give it a try heard a lot about the fragrance and how the smell is realy pleasant and faint yet attractive.

  • Tim says:

    Hello gorgeous.

I haven’t tried any of the Jul et Mad fragrances and love your description of your experience with this one. Sounds like a must try… When it crosses my path.

You know me I don’t go out of my way to try perfumes that I can’t have easy access to for fear of falling for something unattainable.

Thank you for the lovely review.

Hmmmm, you have really picqued my interest now! Hope you are safe and away from the fires! xo

    • Portia says:

      Hey March,

      YAY!

Yes, the fires are on the outskirts of Sydney. We are right in the geographical centre. Some pretty terrifying events over the last week.

I love you SO much! This is one of those reviews that has me going ‘hmmmmmmmmmm’ … ‘nah’ but to get to ‘nah’ required that I really involve myself in what you were saying about the perfume – thank you for such engaging writing, darling.

In the early JetM days I tried (and liked) Stilettos on Lex and (not quite as much) liked Terasse a’ St Germaine. My perfume personality doesn’t skew towards warm & cozy scents, which is probably the only reason I wouldn’t wear this newest one. I quite like Space Flowers!

      Hey Musette,
      Love returened in full.
YAY! So glad you got on board, even though you probably won’t like the frag. Yeah, YOU were the one who got me onto the brand early on I think.
Space Flowers are good. My favourite Space Rose is Calvin Klein Contradiction Woman. Still so good after all these years.

Stairway t Heaven sounds like a fragrance I’d really like. Their bottles are gorgeous heavy glass with frosting with nice shape and cap. I have a bottle of Nea, an Oriental floral created by Luca Maffei, caramel and dried fruit to my nose. I’ve also sampled and enjoyed their Nin-Shar and Stilletos on Lex.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Kathleen,
OOOOH! I never tried Nin-Shar! What was it like?
SNAP! On loving their presentation too. So sophisticated.

I recently received the Discovery Set of Les Classiques in a swap. I am so impressed with this house, and would love to try more.

  • MmkinPA says:

Yet another house I’ve not yet tried. The list gets longer every year!

    • Portia says:

      Hey MMKinPA,

This is one house you could go have a sniff at. They may not be your style exactly but every one I’ve smelled from the house is beautifully created and smells poised.
As I’m not a perfumer I’m not sure of the materials but the whole effect is very luxurious to my nose.
