SOTD 6.3.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 6.3.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Go To It Crew.

Wearing lots of things just now – Ma Nishtana & Aroon Sawat from Strangers/Prissana, and Libertine Smoked Bloom. Ma Nish not as incensey/smokey as i expected – has a Montale Full Incense fizzy vibe. Aroon is more floral than i thought. Smoked Bloom is a second try – its gone a bit creamy orange. not getting the woodsy scents at all today. maybe they all need a little heat?

  • cassieflower says:

    Atelier Café Tuberosa.

  • Melanie says:

Midnight Fleur by Nest today. Just ordered some samples from LKNU – Ma Nishtana (Prissana) and a couple of the Strangers Perfume scents – Oliver and Aroon Swaat.

  • Cassieflower says:

Happily wafting about in Jungle L’Elephant today.

  • Portia says:

Viktoria Minya: Rose Absolute. Turkish delight, roses and blue cheese/poopy oudh, a compelling and luscious scent. So much going on, yet it does it in a coherent, stylish way.

  • Melanie says:

Doing some Tom Ford Santal Noir today. Also got to sniff ELDO’s I am Trash – super interesting and not what i expected at all. Have a little left for another try as the opening is super cool but cant remember how it goes after so another spin is required.

    • Melanie says:

Oh dear! I was so excited about seeing the SOTD posts that I made up a new perfume! Meant to say TF Sahara Noir.
Today is all sorted wearing ELDO Like This

  • Portia says:

Fete by Molyneux. Old school fruity, aldehydic floral. So pretty and uplifting.

  • Cassieflower says:

Loved my Tauers so much yesterday that I went with the same today . Down to my last drops of Rose Flash and my perfume shop has been out of stock for ages. I’ll try not to panic!

  • Nancy C says:

It’s a rose day for me….FM Une rose layered over Andy’s Rose body oil. Was surprised it was not too much for the gym!

  • Portia says:

THUNKED a 10ml decant of Iris by SMN. It’s a very pretty, softly woody, powdered iris with a hint of sweetness. MMMMM

  • Pickles says:

Current formulation Melograno. Not as deep or long lasting as vintage but I still like it.

  • Cassieflower says:

After a day spent cleaning my b-i-l’s house followed by a hot shower I’m in Tauer Rose oil and Rose Flash. Fully fragrant?

  • Maggiecat says:

I went off to church this morning in a happy little cloud of Martin Margiela’s Under the Lemon Trees. It is a clean (in a good way) citrusy, woody scent, great for when you are around a lot of people and want to leave some breathing room.

    • Portia says:

You’re not the first nose I regard that’s offered up Under the Lemon Trees as a good fragrance Maggiecat. Does it have any correlation to other fragrances?

  • Portia says:

Tonight for work I wore Bellodgia EdP by Caron, in the pimple flacon. I forget how enormous it is and may have overspritzed just a little. OOPS!
It smelled amazing though, I loved it.

  • HeidiC says:

I just got a packet of samples from STC, so today I put Le Labo Cuir 28 on my left wrist and Santal 33 on my right. The Cuir does this nifty trick of starting out as a dry leather and then morphing into vetiver halfway through. The Santal was AWFUL — people rave about it, but it just smelled like musty dill on me!

  • Portia says:

Last night I hosted a fundraiser for one of the Wildlife Rescue places that are dealing with the fallout from our recent bushfires and floods. It was a Sold Out night and we raised some good money for them.
My SOTEvening was Aesthete by Le Galion. Most of the people didn’t know me or my perfume obsession and I had at least 6 unsolicited compliments and agreement from their peeps. It was wonderful to have a fragrance I really admire and love given so much attention.
A leather/woodsy vanilla with underpinnings of white flowers and a hint of oud. Aesthete is ridiculously well crafted and blended, wears noticeably for hours and smells fantastic.

  • Tanja says:

I wore Coriandre in the morning to visit a big sewing fabric market in the neighbor town. Now cosying up with MKK, of which icould finally get a used bottle.

  • Ariel says:

I am wearing the scent 1969 from a local perfumer, Sweet Anthem. Sadly, they aren’t making it anymore and there are just 3oz in the bottle. It is warm, sweet, gentle, and a little bit uplifting.

  • Jo Ann, escaped from L.A. says:

    Great idea Portia!

  • Sonomavelvet says:

Hi Posse. I started out this morning with a little bit of PdN’s Rose Pivoine. Love it and it’s very discreet if I’m close to people. I kept getting whiffs of Love Tuberose from my sweater and decided to make it a thing now that Rose Pivoine has faded and I have Love Tuberose on my other wrist. I do really really crave this scent from time to time. I really like Tuberose any time any place but this one is oddly comforting somehow. Like a Tuberose hug.

  • rosarita says:

Oh this is a great idea, Posse people! Hi Portia and everyone 🙂 I’m wearing SL Gris Clair for the 3rd day in a row, which I never do but it just smells so good right now! I’m spending today taking pictures of stuff to list on Poshmark, I’m obsessed. Can’t sell perfume on there but unworn jewelry, accessories and thrift store dishes and things are going fast. Obsessed!

    • Carolyn Ring-Ade says:

SL fan here. I also like Gris Clair and Santal Blanc. I often fantasize about owning a bottle of La fille de Berlin.

    • Portia says:

      Hey there Rosarita,
Gris Clair is lovely. So rarely read about it anymore. thanks for the reminder. There’s a bottle languishing here that I need to look for.
      Is Poshmark a new eBay?

  • March says:

I’m wearing vintage Chanel Bois des Iles, mostly by accident because I thought I was grabbing a different decant, but I smell dandy!

    • Portia says:

OOOH! BdI is beautiful March. I was given a small vial of the vint-ish extrait and every time I swipe it on I am reminded how good perfume can be.

  • AnnieA says:

Wearing Eau Parfumée Au Thé Bleue as I am going thrifting with a friend soon and want to keep it light.

    • March says:

Have I tried this? Hmmm. I have green, red and white and like them all.

    • Carolyn Ring-Ade says:

The perfect pairing of scent and activity! Another grey day in la belle ville so I went for something that makes me smile – Tubereuse mystique by Bulgari.

  • Cassieflower says:

Yohoo, Portia. I’m wearing one I received from your good self in my last PPP, Nicolai Ambre Cashmere. Love it. Humming away nicely to me all day.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Cassieflower,
Ambre Cashmere is lovely. Are you an amber fan normally?
Did you wear it somewhere flash?
      Portia xx

      • Cassieflower says:

Well I was at work, which wasn’t flashy today? Yes, I really like amber, I treated myself to Tauer Amber Flush oil and perfume for my birthday. Gorgeous stuff. Hope you’re having a great time now that you’re an unemployed perfumista blogger, Hawhaw.

        • Portia says:

The relief of ending APJ is real BUT I’ve been feeling really nostalgic for it too. Especially following you, Marcella and Brigitte’s crazy long threads of wise cracks.
Hopefully this SOTD idea will bring them back to play in the near future.
I too love some amber in my fragrance, it’s a note that warms me right through. A good one can make me practically soon with Stendahl Sydnrome.

  • MMKinPA says:

The NST community project today is The Dude. I went with Dame Sky Father. Jeffrey Dame says it’s “for a man, mostly” but I loved it from first sniff, so clearly that description meant nothing to me! Citrus, spicy, musky. Airy. Happy Friday!

    • Portia says:

      Hey MMKinPA!
Excellent to see you over here at Perfume Posse.
HA! The Dude is a wonderful community project. So many excellent things made with boys in mind smell amazing on the girls.

  • I just purchased my beloved Hermes 24 Faubourg from ya’ll … and of course saw another little extra I had to try: Sophia Cologne Concentrate, as I adore her, too … and well, was sort of hoping it would be similar to H24F. Love it, mean it, but it used to be so awfully expensive that I worry it will become so again. I’m trying to get ahead of the line there.
In my scent comparison, each are distinct, with Sophia in a definite floral, but what’s that at beginning dry down? Powder, lotion-y (or is the better term “creamy”? I’m really not sure. It was a little odd to me, so Interesting.
And now, an amazing 36 hrs later, the scent lingers at the crook of my elbow where I spritzed it, as the memory of a kiss!
Hermes for my win, but Sophia, Sophia, Sophia, as the lady, this fragrance endures in a lovely way.

  • Portia says:

In honour of Springpansy I’ve spritzed some Un Jour d”Ete. SO GOOD! A softly radiant white floral with sand, salt and coconut cut through with a lovely breathiness. Perfection.

  • Paddy Mogan says:

I’ve been wearing Wood Violet, Sonoma Scents. BTW, new owner is back in production. Yeah!!

    • Ariel says:

Yay! I got my bottle of Wood Violet a couple of months ago and have just been waiting for the right spring weekend…I think tomorrow is the day to open the bottle. This is one of my absolute favorite scents and I’m so glad that it’s available again.

  • Jill says:

I bought the new artist bottle of Do son from Diptyque. I love the bottle, with a scene painted on the inside back and the blue color. Needed tuberose today.

  • Lemoncake says:

Hi Portia – I’m in the need of comforting vanilla – I’ve been alternating between Dame Black Flower and CB I Hate Perfume 7 Billion Hearts.

  • Gina T. says:

Hi Portia, my love!!!!! Good to see you again. I am in Guerlain Gentiana today. Hugs to you.

    • Portia says:

      Hey there GinaT,
So good to see you here.
I have Gentiana too. we might be the last on earth. It’s so pretty and one of the best Aqua Allegorias in my book.

  • AJ says:

I’m pregnant so scent is tough right now. Everything smells overwhelming and my hormones seem to be messing with my skin chemistry. This weekend I put on DSH’s Special Formula X Extreme, and I haven’t stopped wearing it since. On me, it is a soft, clean, comforting skin scent – DH says it makes me smell like warm laundry “in a great way”. It’s a scent that is normally in regular rotation, particularly snuggly weekend days at home, but just works perfectly right now for everyday. Not overwhelming and blending well with my current skin chemistry.
Anyone else ever notice skin chemistry changes due to health or hormones?

    • March says:

I remember liking that a LOT, wonder where my decant is….. ::wanders off to look::

    • Ariel says:

All the time! I have about twenty scents in my seasonal wardrobe at any given time due to hormones, weather, allergies, diet- and I definitely noticed changes during and post-pregnancy. Glad you found something that works for you and makes you happy today 🙂

  • Filomena says:

Today I am wearing Francesca Bianchi’s Lost in Heaven.

  • Bee says:

Wearing a b’day gift from DH – Guerlain Bergamote Calabria. It’s a fresh, zingy, ‘sunshine in a bottle’ kind of kind of scent. Very uplifting and perfect for a day that actually feels like Spring

    • Carolyn Ring-Ade says:

I love Bergamot and have yet to meet a Guerlain that didn’t work for me so…will be on the lookout for a sample.

  • springpansy says:

Hi Portia, writing from Seattle, the epicenter of coronavirus in the U.S. Everyone is stressed, work is difficult (do we cancel all our events? large meetings? do we all work from home? some of us are.) So I came home and spritzed my Keiko Mecheri Un Jour d”Ete which I bought based on your post! It’s my favorite creamy sweet jasmine. Could almost be my signature scent, but… I can’t settle down to just one.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Springpansy,
YAY! I am so happy other people love Un Jour d”Ete. it so rarely gets any chat on the perfume blogs and I think it’s a fabulous scent.
You’ve inspired me to get it out and spritz.
