SOTD 17.7.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 17.7.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Go To It Crew.

    Elle L’Aime by Lolita lempicka.
I really felt like wearing a tropical white floral with all the cream, coconut and and hint of saltiness. It’s such a good frag, I will miss it when it’s gone.

ELDO Rien Intense Incense for me today. Loving the extra incense in here.

    • Melanie says:

Also, would anyone else recommend/describe Guerlains Black Perfecto to me…

      • Portia says:

        He Melanie,
Black Perfecto is a Cherry Cheesecake for me. Including the creaminess, bittersweet cherries and nutty biscuit base. Beautiful.

Some of the last of my HG (first) Voyage. I will seriously miss it when it’s gone. It works really well in this hot and humid weather and lasts all day.

This morning Paramela for my five mile walk ( I am up to five miles now!!! In one hour and 20 minutes!). Post shower Green Tea. I am working on another full bottle thunk with this one. I would like to thunk a few bottles that are less than 1/4 full by the end of the summer. I want to thin out the herd.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Brigitte,
5 miles is HUGE! I’m only walking to the fridge and back. Not true really, I’m trying to do about 7k steps most days but lately it’s been sitting around 6k.
YEAH! Go you good thunk thing.

I’m testing Death & Floral’s Two Cups of Tea, a Summer Monsoon and You and Me today. We are fully in monsoon season here in Santa Fe, which is one of my favorite times of year. I love the quick dramatic drenching rains. I am absolutely adoring all the Death & Floral samples I purchased recently and this one is no exception. Wet earth is the first impression I get followed quickly by the tea coming out to play in the break between thunderous showers.

Started out the day in a very blue mood. Funny the link of perfume to emotions, how scent affects mood and mood affects scent. So blue I didn’t even want to put anything on, and then as the mood shifted and light shone the desire to celebrate being alive and free and grateful with a refreshing cologne on a hot day. Guerlain Passiflora did the job.

    • Portia says:

OOOH! Is Guerlain Passiflora from the Aqyua Allegoria line SV? I’m sure I’ve heard of it before but it’s slipped my mind.
Glad the blues left you behind.

New arrival from a friends Sale Doc on FB. Saffran Troublant by L’Artisan, very lightly used. Exciting to finally have this weird assed MoFo in the collection. For some reason I thought I was buying a 50ml but it arrived a whopping 100ml! Amazing.

  • Melanie says:

Montale Boise Vanilla for me today. Sweetish, boozy fruits with the usual Montale musk and spices.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Melanie,
Is this at all related to the way Serge Lutens does stewed fruit, vanilla and woods?
      Portia xx

      • Melanie says:

Hey Portia, not sure I’ve experienced enough Lutens to answer. I think there is some florals in there too but on me, I get fruits.

  • Brigitte says:

    Leau Froide. Full bottle thunk.

    • Portia says:

      WOW! Congratulations.
That particular range of Lutens is so interesting Brigitte. I’ve not bought one because they didn’t feel wearable. Clearly I’m mistaken.
      Portia xx

      • Brigitte says:

To me leau Froide is a perfect summer incense for hot weather. I also doctored it up with a bit of pure frankincense essential oil. So good!!

    • SonomaVelvet says:

That one was a favourite of a perfumista mentor of mine who passed away a couple of years ago. I have a decant of it from her in a little bottle as elegant as she was and pull it out and get a whiff of it’s weirdness now and then and remember.

  • Portia says:

Today I took a couple of our friends for a road trip down to the Australian National Art Gallery and next door to the Australian National Portrait Gallery. Both places were almost empty. I’ve never seen them like this. It was eerie. They have the most incredibly strict numbers policy, sanitising and distancing. Very impressive.
They are currently renovating Jackson Pollock’s Blue Poles in situ. The artist was answering questions and pointing out interesting things that help make this Pollock so outstanding and new. Even some things that would be mistakes in any other artists work create an atmosphere right up to the amount of reflection and finish. So interesting. A mammoth task that will take him more than two years. His last job was a Van Gogh Haystacks.
Wore Guerlain Oriental Brulant. It’s freaking gorgeous. Still huffing away at it 16 hours later.

    • Brigitte says:

      Sounds like a perfect day!!!

      • SonomaVelvet says:

It does indeed!! I’m such a geek, what you described sounds like heaven to me. As if admiring the art wasn’t awesome enough, to have a resident expert give you more info and insight about it all, Heaven! and smelling good too!

        • Portia says:

          Hi SV,
Yes, it was pretty close to perfect. He was so enthusiastic about his work and the works he renovates. It was also very relaxing to be in the presence of someone who had so obviously found their niche in the world.
There were both an Australian photographic and a painting award displayed in the portrait gallery. It was really interesting to see everyday Australians of all colours, creeds and socioeconimic levels as the focus of important art. Some of their stories were extremely moving and I found myself looking through very blurry eyes a couple of times.
Art has such power to energise and restore. I feel quite reborn this morning.

  • Melanie says:

Amber, by Laboratory Perfumes for me today.
A lovely, green, earthy and spicy little scent. Bit like DS Durga’s Radio Bombay but creamier and a tad more spice.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

Many years ago I used to really like Estee Lauder’s Tuberose Gardenia and then I forgot all about it. I’m not sure what made me remember it but I suddenly had a lemming and pulled it out. Wow, I remembered tuberose but I totally didn’t remember all the mushrooms. In my memory it was on the cool side but this is reading as quite warm to me now. So, I’m wearing that, but then Guerlain’s Ginger Picante arrived today and I had to put that on right away too, because well, because!!! Anyway I like them both and you wouldn’t think of trying them together I’m sure but it actually works really well.

My Tuesday Trivia night has been put back on hold. While understanding fully that we need to stay safe and the growing numbers of our second wave are alarming it has totally bummed me out. I know I’ll be OK financially but I love the trivia peeps so much.

ah my dear, I have a feeling we’re all going to go through this ebb and flow for a while. This time last year if anyone had predicted we were going to experience this pandemic on a worldwide scale and all the effects it was going to have I really would have rolled my eyes I think. And here we are. Australia seems to be pretty sensible in how they are handling things so hopefully the numbers will go down quickly and you guys can resume your reopening soon. Stay well.

      • Portia says:

Yes, it looks like we are all in for the extended run of this disaster. Fingers crossed for safe outcomes all around SV.

I have found a Travel Size, with gold magnetic lid case, that I bought as part of a set to split soon after it was released. There’s also an Oud and a second BR540 travel refill. I must have split off three BR540s and two Oud.

Had a lovely day in SL’s Datura Noir. It hit me just perfectly today, beautiful and smells like a floral but more than that. It smells like a perfume to me, a straight up ‘yep I’m wearing perfume’ perfume, no apologies just perfume gorgeousness. Thank you Serge

    • Portia says:

      LOVE Datura Noir SV,
Yeah, I’d never thought about it like that. A very modern take on the old school idea of a lovely French perfume.

Hello peeps. Been mia for a few days. Family and friends have been keeping me busy and entertained. The perfume lineup was Songes, Orris Noir, Franck Boclet Cocaine and today is Rose & Cuir. I’m almost at the bottom of my travel spray so this has gotten some serious skin time, considering I only bought it last year when it was released. There will be a re-purchase, no question.

    • Portia says:

      WOW Cassieflower,
      Will you get the bottle?

      • Cassieflower says:

No, I don’t need 50ml of anything if I have the choice of a smalltiny 10 ml. So definitely another travel spray. I don’t even think of the price per ml. I guess I just love those little things that I can throw into my (also very small, usually) handbag.

This morning Velours by YSL. Sweet amber goodness.
This afternoon Fille en Aiguilles by Serge Lutens. Sweet resinous stewed fruits and stuff.

  • Maggiecat says:

I’m normally not a Nest scent fan – too strong, usually, or they smell weird on me. But the new (to me anyway) Bamboo and Jasmine body spray? Gorgeous! Jasmine without skank or screech, woods and musk. Even though it’s a body spray, I wear it like a perfume, just a few sprays. I bought a small size, but the large one is is my future (I got mine from Ulta, a rare good blind buy).

      • Brigitte says:

Ormond Jayne. It’s an extrait. Very rich and luxurious ( quite the opposite of me! LOL)

        • Portia says:

          I bet it’s SUPER spendy.
HA! I’ve always imagined you as ultra rich and luxurious Brigitte.

          • Brigitte says:

Hahaha!! Wish I was ultra rich!! And lockdown has knocked the luxurious right outa me LOL….not complaining though…. simplicity seems to be working fine these days.

Finally getting around to testing my first order from Death & Floral. Wearing “The Wolf Only Needs Luck Once to Find You” this am. I’ve had some issues with forest scents going full pine sol on me but that is not the case here! Notes are: Crisp forest night air, lunar musk, large drifting oakwood trees, the musky scent of a trailing shadow. This is a very ethereal scent in bottle and wet on skin. It’s all wispy moon and gentle night breezes. As it dries down I can begin to sense the forest floor. The wolf’s paws are getting a bit dirty as it starts to walk through the forest hunting for you. And I can smell a teeny bit of soft fur as the wolf closes in.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

It’s a gorgeous sunny day here, with a brisk breeze so it won’t get too hot. Perfect for going to the market and working in the garden and a little socially distant visiting. I’m a walking solar cloud of luminosity today in 4 sprays!! of Lys 41. Well, that’s a lot for me, especially of that one. mmmmmmm

    • Portia says:

He He He he. SV, I love that 4 sprays is a lot for you. No judgement, just funny how different we all are.
Brigitte, what’s your usual? Mine is around 8.

      • Brigitte says:

I’ve gone as high as 30 depending on the perfume….. sometimes I want to surround myself in a forcefield!!! Years ago I always did tops of feet, ankles, behind knees, crook of elbow, inner / outer wrist, behind each ear and chest….17 sprays. Today it’s just 2 because I am wearing something precious…vintage Emeraude PdT.

  • Brigitte says:

Dame Leather Man. Something about this reminds me of Stash.

    • SonomaVelvet says:

Are you wearing ‘Brigitte’ amounts of it? 🙂 I’m glad you’re enjoying Dame scents. I really enjoy his soliflores, especially Narcissus. I’ve never smelled anything else like his Narcissus. I know it’s only a roller but that is one perfume I’ve bought more than one of, which I can’t say about many others.

      • Brigitte says:

Hahaha!! Yes I was! 10 sprays! His Narcissus is amazing!!! Smells true to life….and it’s extraordinaryly potent!! I agree, nothing like it.

  • Portia says:

Wearing I by Costume National. It has never smelled so delightfully fizzy on opening, it adds a whole new dimension. Perfect winter dog walking scent.
    Portia xx

    • SonomaVelvet says:

I love that. I’ll think of you walking your dogs in the winter whilst mowing the lawn and tending my garden. Such an amazing world where through each other we can vicariously experiences more than one season at the same time!

      • Portia says:

        100% SV,
Enjoy your garden. We were planting mid winter seedlings and doing some repotting today.
Mowing the lawn was my least favourite job of them all. As soon as I could afford to pay someone else to do it I did. Some people find it zen, I know.

Vintage Balmain Jolie Madame. I think it was Cassieflower that said that when you wear this perfume you are saying, “Lookin’ for trouble, mister?” Violets and leather. Gotta love it.

    • Portia says:

HA! Sure is. Cassieflower has a way with words.
I had a little of the extrait but it’s long finished. Such a Mod Vespa Mole scent.

      • Maya says:

Ooooh. I like your description of this perfume too.

        • SonomaVelvet says:

Me too, made me laugh.. ‘Looking for trouble mister?’ makes me wonder if I have any perfumes that say that??? hmmm

    • Carolyn says:

“Looking for trouble mister” is my absolutely favorite style of perfume and I agree that this one totally captures that sentiment!

  • SonomaVelvet says:
