SOTD 7.8.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 7.8.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Go To It Crew.

ELDO Rien Intense Incense for me today.
    And, if i may…
Does anyone love/like Bortnikoff fragrances? My favourite perfume place LKNU has them on sale – they are very pricey even on sale.

And any love for Ortigia Sicilia?
Brigitte – have you seen this house – check out their packaging… I ordered some samples last night so hoping their scent is as beautiful as their bottles.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Melanie,
You’re a part of the Aussie Fragrance Network of FB? There are quite a few Bortnikoff aficionados there that could steer you right.
I have some Ortigia soaps that are super gorgeous, never smelled their frags. The packaging is so yum.

I’ve been writing blog posts today for the next few weeks. Currently wearing 1957 and Le Lion de CHANEL on each arm to smell their differences. Smells amazing.

Is there a reason you are writing ahead of time?
We are note twins….Started in my Jovan White Musk and freshened up post walk with Body Fantasy Fresh White Musk

  • Melanie says:

Queen by Queen Latifah for me today. Just a nice woodsy, vanilla spice.

    • Portia says:

This is one of my BFFs signature perfumes. I bought a bunch of them when they were on the way out but there’s only one tester left in my gift arsenal. Thank goodness she has other loves.

Great post at our friend’s place today Portia. Made me think about what I’ve snapped up in panic and there’s a bit of a list. Un Lys when Serge moved it to Paris only, and PdN’s Temps d’un Fete just in time thank goodness, Boyfriend but not enough, Donna Karan’s Gold, and Tom Ford’s Violet Blonde and Shanghai Lily but again not enough. oh, and Annick Goutal’s neroli but not enough. Is it still panic buying when you’re darn glad for years after that you did it?

    • Portia says:

      Heya SV,
Thanks. Undina’s Looking Glass is a really good blog, I’m so exited to be guesting there.
I also panic bought PdN’s Temps d’un Fete and Donna Karan Gold (EdT and EdP!). SNAP! There have been many others too.
Yeah, it’s still panic BUYING but there’s no bad juju attached if you love and wear the buys.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

Almost Brigitte amounts for me today. 6 sprays!!! of PdN’s Rose Pivoine. I really love the smell of this one. It’s perfectly balanced between softly sweet and a tiny bit tart and hints of something interesting and just keeps humming and humming. I just wish it hummed a little louder though. It’s really glorious when my nose is right on my wrist but I can’t smell it at all unless my nose really is right on my wrist. It doesn’t seem to matter how many sprays, always the same. Wait I’ve just had a brilliant idea haha, I’m going to try spraying my mask with it. That’s certainly right up against my nose. Time will tell.

  • Brigitte says:

I have been craving clean musk. The hubs bought me Body Fantasy Clean White Musk body spray and Jovan White Musk. Both are huge. Both are dirt cheap. Both smell like Dove Soap in the best possible way. Both are simple, unchallenging and just plain pretty. Both make me really happy. I will probably be wearing them for weeks in a row LOL

  • Portia Turbo says:

Wore Barkhane by Seo Cabanel today. First full wearing. I went through a sample early after its release and just received my bottle from the sale they had.
    WOO HOO!
    Loving it

ELDO Marquis de Sade for me today.
Brigitte quantities – am loving it xx

Happy Tuesday my friends. I’m back from some gorgeous time in the mountains. I did wear perfume but mostly Herba Fresca and Passiflora as it was HOT HOT and I spent a lot of time in a big mountain lake. So good.
I put on JM’s dark amber ginger lily this morning. I was so obsessed with this one about 10 years ago. I had to have it and had to go to another city to get it, only once I did have a huge bottle in my hot little hands after a couple of wearings I started to feel ‘meh’ about it. Funny. I put it on once or twice a year now to see, and yup, ‘meh’ today too. Anyway it’s all gone after a few hours so now I’ve topped up with some Cap Neroli…..NOT MEH!!

    • Portia says:

      Hey SV,
So glad your mountain adventure was good. Swimming in mountain lakes sounds amazing, cooling off from the summer heat.
Bummer about the Jo Malone. It’s probably a collectors item by now and you could get your money back plus interest if you sold it.

Last night I had a midnight bubble bath. I’d spent my usual Monday cleaning the apartment and doing laundry. After my bath I went scent free and enjoyed the scent of my freshly washed bedding as I fell asleep.
This morning I’ve got a few errands to run, just a little bit of laundry to finish up and then I’m going to read my book.
Currently doused in Jardins d’Amide by Oriza Legrand. It is a powder bomb of violet, iris, honeyed almonds and fluffy white musks. MMM

  • Melanie says:

TF Black Orchid for me today. I usually find it a bit heavy but today, its wearing delightful. Also thought i saw something to say there’s a new version of this?

  • Kathleen says:

Mancera Instant Crush. The name is fitting! It is described as similar to Baccarat Rouge. I get the association; however, Instant Crush is more sweet and opulent. Different enough that I covet a bottle.
Best wishes with the job try out Portia, and I envy your rain! Too hot here.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Kathleen,
I’m hearing LOTS of Instant Crush chatter. WOW! MORE sweet and opulent? How is that even possible? Baccarat Rouge hits something in my brain that is all the sweet, rich tapestried outrageousness sewn together. It’s not often a fragrance feels overwhelming for me, BR does. ONLY on me though, on others it’s gorgeous.
Thanks on both counts. I just gave the dogs their morning walk. The skies have cleared but the ground is running small rivers in every gutter. I love that sound.

This morning I wore RIMA XI by Carner Barcelona for the new job try out at a local Bridal Registry.
Had a fab time there. What a wonderful place to work. Fingers crossed.
Tonight Jin took me out for dinner at a Pullman Hotel. There were only 6 diners. We had fabulous service and the food was amazing. We had the window seat and watched a raging rainstorm throughout.
I had a little spritz of Rose et Cuir by Malle for dinner. It felt properly glamorous.
Now home. Dogs are fed & walked, Jin is snoring loudly in the main bedroom and I’m going to make myself a pot of tea and watch some TV.
Wearing three big blasts of Musc Ravageur by Malle. MMMM

Good old fail me never Portrait of a Lady tonight- I’m reminded of that old Broadway tune “I enjoy being a girl!” (showing age) whenever I wear this, to me it’s deeply and completely feminine, tho others may,and do,disagree..
Wildly over sprayed so cats keeping their distance

Wore some vintage Guerlain Vetiver today. Love that clean, earthy green scent.

      Very nice DinaC,
I love the way the Guerlain Vetiver sparkles. So wearable and comfy yet just a little bit classy.

lutens Chergui. It’s a gorgeous day here in Seattle and I took a little time away from work and did a 4.5 mile walk. Completely worth it!

I’ve been in Beauty Pie’s Brazilian Lime,Fig Leaf & Tea. It does just what it says on the tin. Citrus, fig & tea perfect for the UK seaside in 30 degree heat. More cologne than edt so great for spraying with abandon. Refillable from the 100ml bottle the 15ml travel spray sold with a screw top spray & funnel is eco friendly too.
Their Mandarin Leaf, White Cedar & Freesia is great for hot days too.

Back in February a friend in Montreal picked up a bottle of Shalimar Eau Légère for me. I planned to be there in May, but well, you know. She sent it along and now I have it – what a pretty, summery oriental. I’d tried and failed to like Shalimar and flankers, but have finally found The One.

I’m inspired by all the incense discussion yesterday and chose Commes des Garcons Ouarzazate today. To me it’s a quiet incense, and cool. Perfect for my mood at the moment. Enjoy your weekend everyone.

Amouage Gold Man. PHWOAR! I forget how spectacular this beauty is between wears. MMMMM
    Raining here in Sydney.

    • Queen-Cupcake says:

Oh how I wish we could have some rain–we need it here in Massachusetts. I have, from time to time, received nice little samples of Amouage frags, but still don’t have a grasp of their special qualities–must go hunt for those samples now. First thing I put on today was vintage Lauren. It was my signature, way back in 1979 and I still adore it. (The Warner one, never Cosmair.)

      • Portia says:

        Hey there QC,
We rarely get such a wet winter as this. It’s wonderful. My favourite weather by far. All my hefty frags (well, some anyway) are getting some skin time.
Lauren! How different is the vintage?
        Portia xx

        • Queen-Cupcake says:

The vintage Lauren (launched in 1978 and created by Bernard Chant) is the only one to have, IMHO. The pineapple top note blends perfectly with the flowers–heavenly! The reformulation was such a disappointment. I also like Safari, which launched in 1990 (Dominique Ropion), picked up the spicy green chypre theme and expanded on it–made a bit more complex and assertive. It is beautiful too. I haven’t tried the Safari for Men but some day I will get around to it.

      • alityke says:

The red inkwell one? Absolutely adored that one. You’re so lucky having it
