SOTD 21.8.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 21.8.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Go To It Crew.

Can’t sleep so testing vintage Opium, Black Orchid perfume ( different to my nose from the edp) and Iris Poudre.

In the morning might go with 24 Faubourg

  • Brigitte says:

Post shower testing Ganaymede…super sexy…on one wrist….Private Collection…my Christmas holiday fragrance when I was a child…on the other wrist… Just received a lovely package and have new toys to play with.. there will probably be less monogamy in the next few weeks LOL 🙂

  • Portia says:

Oud Ispahan by DIOR! Smooth as silk

  • Melanie says:

Strangers Perfumerie Oliver for me – the sky is blue and the sun is out and i’m stuck in the office. This scent is beautiful. Creamy orange, salty and some spice – so good.

  • Brigitte says:

Bengale Rouge in the scorching heat

    • Portia says:

I love that you fragrantly lean into the hot weather. there’s something liberating about wearing big heavy hitters in the heat.
      Portia xx

      • Brigitte says:

Oddly enough,P, these heavy hitter cold weather fragrances often lay flat on my dry scent devouring skin in my winter. Strangely, in the heat, they bloom in the most mysterious and beautiful ways. Absolute Pour Le Soir, Salome, Bengale Rouge, Winter Woods, etc, etc….so much better in the heat.

  • Portia says:

Amouage Ubar is keeping me warm tonight.

  • Melanie says:

Sticky Fingers by Francesca Bianchi for me today. A little sample decant. A lovely, spicy. leathery scent. Creamy, stewed fruits and a little sweetness.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Melanie,
      Sounds fabulous.
Are you a Lutens fan? Does it bear any correlation to his stewed fruitiness?
      Portia xx

      • Melanie says:

Hey Portia, I’ve only tried a few Lutens. Best I try a few more! Perhaps i should find a different word from stewed – i’m looking more to say squashed raisins xx

  • Hannah says:

Just received my sample of Hermes Musc Pallida, wow it is a fabulous scent. From the few reviews I can find it does seem like a bottle will last quite a long while, so despite the price I think I may treat myself

  • Maya says:

In a sampling mood today. Frederic Malle Dans Tes Bras. For some reason, this one puzzles me. I do find myself leaning into it more than not.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Maya,
My memory of Dans Tes Bras is that it was very introspective. Can’t remember its scent at all. I’m off to look up the notes.
      Portia xx

      • Maya says:

I get the introspective feeling about it too and I don’t really remember the smell either. It’s not a skin scent, it’s more a personal or private scent to me. It’s different and somewhat intriguing and it is pleasant. Makes me want to play with it some more.

  • Brigitte says:

Fresh White Musk on my neck, Bengale Rouge on my wrist prewalk. Post walk sweaty body EA Green Tea all over. Need to do some yard work so waiting on the shower but post shower maybe more Bengale Rouge. It’s gorgeous in the heat.

  • Portia says:

Le Participe Passé by Serge Lutens today.
Perfect stewed fruit, resins and immortelle bomb for a cool sunny winter day.
    Portia xx

  • Melanie says:

Enjoying my Rien Intense Incense today.

  • Portia says:

Worked in the Bridal salon today. LOVED IT!
Wore Ambre Céruléen to work. Perfect softly crunchy amber.
Tonight went for Chinese with a couple of friends that officially moved in together this week. We celebrated. It was really fun and mice to just be with them. After dinner we wandered around a new precinct behind Chinatown in Sydney. It is a beautiful mix of food, shops, green space and high rise living. Very impressed. Even in the days of C19 it was quite busy.
Wore Guerlain Bois Mysterieux again. The more I wear it the better I like it. Simple and comfortable.
    Portia xx

    • Brigitte says:

Is this a new job, P?
I sampled several of the Armani’s today including the amber one and the iris one…loved them both. And the application if the sample is fascinating. No spray, no stick. You unscrew top and there are three small holes. I sprinkled the juice on to my skin.

      • Portia says:

        Hey Brigitte,
Yes. I was starting to feel like I wasn’t contributing to the universe so went for a very casual, part time job in a Bridal Salon. Yesterday was my first proper day working. It was really fun and I loved it.
Armani has some new frags? Prive line?
        Portia xx

        • Brigitte says:

          Oooo… that’s exciting!! That’s a perfect place for you. I’m glad you found a job that’s satisfying.

The Prive line. Older stuff I have never sampled…the amber, iris, poivre and one other. Too lazy to go to the basement to get you the proper names.

  • Brigitte says:

    Natalie….what a gorgeous drydown.

    • Portia says:

What is this Natalie you speak of? By whom? Which notes?
      Portia xx

      • Brigitte says:

It was created to honor Natalie Wood by her daughter who based it on Natalie’s favourite fragrance, Jungle Gardenia. It’s a white floral with a citrus kick. For me, the best part is the drydown… it’s this succulent green combined with creamy florals.

  • Maggiecat says:

Today involved physical thetapy, so I limited myself to Eau d’Hadrien body lotion. I remembered how much I loved this scent!

  • Brigitte says:

    Bengal Rouge to bed…meow…

  • Hannah says:

My SOTD is Lovely by SJP. I just discovered her and to my surprise she is/was a huge fan of Skin Musk by Bonne Bell which was one of my favs back in the day.

  • Kathleen says:

I sampled Mancera Instant Crush and am in love! It reminds me of Baccarat Rouge as many reviewers state; however, not as dry and sweeter. I’m not familiar with Mancera perfumes other than hearing the name of the house; are they all this good?

    • Brigitte says:

      Yay for sampling something amazing!

    • Portia says:

      OOOH Kathleen,
If you say it’s good then I’m really excited to try it.
Mancera have some super fabulous frags and some dross. You have to sample and try, just to be sure.

after a (luckily rare) fitful night I awoke in Diorella, which dries down gorgeously (I’m in a vintage edt). I’m having the same sort of weather March is – nearly COLD (okay, not COLD. cold) in the am (50sF) then who knows? in midday. I’m in that bizarro mood that comes after a fitful sleep so I’mo surround myself in Carnal Flower, from head to toe, shower gel, body creme, the works! xoxoxo

  • March says:

We’re in one of those funny weather patterns when it’s cool-ish in the morning and then maybe really hot later, so I test drive one thing early, and then later it’s that Olfactory NYC Ashton (citrus tea) which I’m still loving.

    • Portia says:

      Heya March,
My nephew’s name is Ashton. It was so rare when my sister named him. Ashton Kutcher came along and now it’s popping up in lots of places. Every time I see it I think happy thoughts.

    Coco Mademoiselle today.

  • Melanie says:

Loved my day in Bogue’s Maai, from my little decant. Enough left for another day of deliciousness. It’s super good all that incense and spice but very much outside my budget.
Tonight I’m trying out my Ortigia Sicilia Fico D’India sample. A powdery fig – creamy and soft, like a fluffy jumper! I do adore the packaging of this house.

  • Brigitte says:

    Wash
    Rinse
    Repeat

    Fresh White Musk

I swear I could bathe in this stuff

  • Portia says:

The house really needed a clean so I spent the last couple of hours giving it a “boy clean”. Also I’ve continued trying to organise my perfumes and am feeling overwhelmed so sat at the computer to write to you guys.
SOTAfternoon: Bois Mystérieux by Guerlain. I’m loving its simple resinous woodsiness. Smells excellent.
    Portia xx

    • Brigitte says:

Hope you are feeling less overwhelmed right now!

      • Portia says:

HA! Yes, the house is clean, dinner is prepped and ready for Jin to walk in the door to start cooking.
Quite a bit of my collection has now been reorganised into less boxes. Four big boxes and a bunch of smaller ones have been made redundant, giving me more shelving and floor space in my office.
        YAY!

    • March says:

I love that Guerlain Bois! The name makes me giggle a little in the best way — you know how much I love me some Guerlain, and Bois Mysterieux is such a beautiful name, and/but I find this scent about as “mysterious” as my favorite cashmere sweater.

      • Portia says:

HA! March, you made me laugh.
I never though about mystery wood! NAUGHTY! but so funny.
Yeah, it’s super comfortable, simple and easy breezy.
