SOTD 23.10.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 23.10.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Go To It Crew.

Wearing Sonoma Scent’s Wood Violet today. The house is overdue for a thorough cleaning and the plum plus dust is really quite lovely.

  • Cassieflower says:

Agent Provocateur Maitresse (the gold limited edition) a bit of glam for a day of furniture painting.

  • Melanie says:

Enjoying my sample of BDK Smoking Rouge – a musky vanilla on me. LKNU have updated their sale – I should not have looked – this time ELDO, Histoires Parfum and Laboratory are in the list – oh dear – my poor savings.

  • Cassieflower says:

Shay & Blue Black Tulip (misnamed I think) a creamy plum to my nose.

  • Ariel says:

I’m trying a thing: wearing just one perfume a week (or as many days as the samples last). I was wearing something different up to three times a day at the beginning of the pandemic, but now I’m in a more settling mood, and want to live inside a scent for days at a time. Even if it isn’t my thing, I want to understand it.

This week is Chanel No. 5 (not vintage, alas), and I can hardly recall the person I was when I first smelled it at the Istanbul airport. I think it was the first perfume I bought. Five years ago I was searching for solidity–and now I have it. No.5 doesn’t call my name anymore, but it does evoke memories of travel and dance parties. It’s like going through a pile of photos and having to think for a moment, “Where was this taken?” before having the experience rush back.

    • Neva says:

I like the idea of wearing a scent a few days in a row. Sometimes we are in the same mood for days and then the same perfume fits perfectly. I’ve never worn No 5. It is too serious for me. I felt that way when I was 20 and I feel that way today, even more so.

  • Neva says:

Wearing a sample of S. Lutens FdB, the new version. Suddenly it seems too screechy in the opening, the cedar is overwhelming. I remember it being much smoother. Let’s see how it will develop…

    • Ariel says:

Buena suerte! Did it open up into a hug?
I admire S. Lutens So Much, and yet find the scents I have sampled unwearable. On me, they start out with yelling and then will roar and scream all day long. But…so complex and gorgeous 🙁

  • Melanie says:

Am a bit flat today so L’Artisans’ Al Oudh is helping me out. I shouldn’t really be low – LKNU had a sale yesterday and I may have spent all my pocket money -uh oh! Finally getting my hands on a couple 4160 scents. Check them out – they have some Carner Barcelona, Eight & Bob and Gallivant scents on sale.

    • Neva says:

Congrats on the new perfumes! I haven’t tried any of the 4160 scents because there are too many and I don’t know where to start…
Please let us know your opinion when your perfumes arrive. It may help me decide.

      • Melanie says:

Will keep you posted Neva, they do have a big range and i have only found a few that like my skin xx

  • Cassieflower says:

    Shalimar Souffle.

  • Portia says:

Tonight we had 86 players at Trivia. It was excellent. Tables socially distanced. Only allowed walk to bar, bistro or bog. No wandering and chatting to your friends on other tables. It’s strange but works. Doing our best to entertain and have C19 safety.
Wore Lolita Lempicka Elle L’Aime. GORGeOUS tropical white floral.

    • Neva says:

I’m glad that some of the normal activities are functioning. You smell wonderful, Portia 🙂

  • Cassieflower says:

Au Coeur du Desert. Perfect for our cold sunny day.

  • Neva says:

I’m pretty much in the autumn mood. Wearing ELDO’s Like This the past two days and it fits perfectly.

  • Portia says:

Just poured a full vial of Vitrum Sammarco into my hands and smooshed it all over my chest and hair.
    WHOA! Vetiver AMAZING!
    THUNK!

  • Portia says:

It’s cold and blustery here in Sydney today. I’m back in sweats and jumper to keep warm. The dogs are looking at me like “WTF Daddy? Brrr Brrr Brr. Cuddle me!” Duly obliged.
Wearing Cuir Amethyst by Armani Prive. It’s bloody delicious. If you like Daim Blond or Bottega Veneta then this will make you swooonnnnn. Different but similar but gorgeouser.

  • Cassieflower says:

Alien Fusion. Tuberose and ginger. Zingy.

  • Portia says:

    Sorry All,
Was out all day yesterday and then had dinner guests last night. It was fun but I’ll have to do some comment catch up tonight, after work.
This morning in Curious by Britney Spears. Fits our cool, rainy, spring morning perfectly.

  • Brigitte says:

    Krigler Lovely Patchouli
The hubs liked this one on me last night 😉 so I wore it again today ( I miss being able to post a smiling devil face emoji!!)

  • Cassieflower says:

On your advice, P, I’m wearing Stash Unspoken. Despite the Brigitte amounts it’s still a very tame, inoffensive and unremarkable little thing. I like it well enough but it wouldn’t ever light my fire.

    • Brigitte says:

” the Brigitte amounts” This just made my day . 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • Portia says:

BUM! Sorry to send you on a wild goose chase. Feel free to send all Stash Unspoken to my PO Box.
LOVE that you are wearing Brigitte amounts too.

  • Eldarwen22 says:

Wore Deneuve this morning. Funny thing happened while I was getting ready for work. I had a LADDM mini that slid off my bathroom sink and on the floor. I have dropped bottles of perfume with some spillage but no bottle breaks. Well this mini broke and naturally, I can’t find any of my damned decanting supplies. Ordered some decanting supplies from Amazon to hopefully save some of this. I might have to see if I can find something temporary. Watch as I find the decanting supplies while the new ones come. I might have 2 bottles of LADDM and a few samples but I don’t want to lose anymore precious ml to things like this.

    • Portia says:

AAAARRGGHHGHGGH! So sorry to read this Eldarwen22,
Losing to dropsy is awful. No matter how little it is our fault we always beat ourselves up mercilessly.
I bet the bathroom smells good though?

  • Neva says:

Ganymede for me today. In the summer heat I really enjoyed the aloof cool vibe, now in cooler weather something is lost…I’ll have to wait with it until next spring/summer.

    • Brigitte says:

Neva, I adore Ganymede. It’s such a sexy leather. The funny thing is it works great on me in the cool autumn. Every single time I have worn it I have gotten compliments. But now I really want to try it in the summer heat based on what you just wrote.

      • Neva says:

Yes Brigitte, it’s incredible how many compliments it gets. I thought it very strange at first wearing but then random people approached me telling me how wonderful I smell. Soon after that I bought a full bottle and I enjoyed it a lot during the summer.

    • Portia says:

I don’t know this Ganymede Neva,
      Who is it by?
      Portia xx

      • Neva says:

It’s by Marc-Antoine Barrois and the perfumer is Quentin Bisch. The perfume recently won as best perfume by the Fragrance Foundation UK.

  • Kathleen says:

Amouage Memoir, so rich, warm and cozy in this cold weather.

    • Musette says:

isn’t it funny how perfume smells different to each of us – whilst I think Memoir is gorgeous, I have the persack opposite impression of it – I find it cold and metallic (in a good way ) – not warm & cosy!

      xoxoxo

    • Portia says:

I don’t think I ever smelled Memoir (man or woman) ! I wonder why?
      Portia xx

  • Musette says:

It’s a soaking-wet, chilly day – and my nerves are shot because The Girl nearly died on Tuesday and whilst she’s fine now (they thought it was gastric torsion but it wasn’t and they fixed it)… I’m still a nervous wreck. I was going to wear No5 but I think I’ll pay homage to the rain – and the fact that I need to calm the F down – and wear AdP Iris nobile body cream and edp. xoxoxo

    • Kathleen says:

Oh No Musette! I am so glad The Girl is okay now, what a fright. I fear gastric torsion so much, glad it wasn’t that and the issue was fixed. Give your sweet Girl a big hug and kiss from me. I hope your nerves have settled down and you smell wonderful in Iris Nobile.

      • Musette says:

Kathleen – thank you! She is SICK of me – I jump up and just go over to… LOOK.. at her – and she’s not a dog who enjoys that sort of scrutiny. Some things I learned about GT – so, you already know about raising their food on level with their esophagus – but the surgeon told me that another routine cause of GT is them eating, then drinking a squickton of water right after. Also, eating, then going on a tear outside immediately after. They took a bazillion additional xrays at the surgery and found no evidence of twisting – so they sedated her and did ‘hanging’, whereby they insert a tube down her throat to make sure there’s no stomach twist and then they haul them up into a sling and kind of ‘shake’ (?) them to realign everything. Apparently she needed to pee – a LOT. And she did – all 2 litres all over their pants & shoes!! xoxoxo

ps. I’m still a nervous wreck (she’s ancient so this was even scarier) – but I smell divine!

        • Cassieflower says:

That’s a total nerve-shredder. I know! Some breeds are prone to this. My gravatar is a big hint. Hope you can cool your jets a bit now after the fact.

    • Portia says:

OH MUSETTE! I’m so sorry to read this. Sick fur babies are the freaking WORST!
      Thank everything she’s alright.

      HUGS!

      You do smell divine.

  • Dina C. says:

Wearing vintage No. 5 parfum today. It’s a special day since our daughter is graduating from cosmetology school, and I wanted to feel super glamorous. Fizzing with excitement, just like the aldehydes. 😀

  • Brigitte says:

    Iris Poudre

  • Cassieflower says:

Calèche Soie. All the sparkly bells and whistles.

  • cookie queen says:

    strangelove nyc. fallintostars.

      • cookie queen says:

I have had the oils for a couple of years. (All except fallintostars) And I got the EdP sample box a couple of months ago. And was caught by the fallintostars. Used the 2ml up and then ordered a 15ml. They are all damn good. I love everything about the collection. Expensive but gorgeous, as opposed to some lines that are expensive but utter rubbish.

        • Musette says:

V – what does it smell like? xoxoxo

          • cookie queen says:

Opulent. Opens with oud, several maybe, and morphs into a sensual amber, surrounded all the while in a warm golden haze of whatever Laudamiel uses. Saffron, jonquil, myrrhe? I want the oil next, preferably with the necklace (have you seen it?) xxx

          • Ariel says:

I love this line- especially Melt My Heart. Does it stick with you? My skin eats them all within twenty minutes, so I’ve never bothered even thinking about a FB.

          • cookie queen says:

For hours, both the oils and the edps. Oils wear closer of course but last just as long. But all perfume lasts on me. Can be annoying. 🙂

          • Ariel says:

The grass is always greener! My skin eats up at least a third of the scents I try (both to my nose and others’.) Makes sampling go quickly, so both a blessing and a curse 🙂
