NVRMIND by Aether Parfums

Hey Posse! I got a terrific surprise in the mail last week. My mate Nicolas from Aether Parfums sent me a bottle of a collaboration he is incredibly proud of. NVRMIND, made in conjunction with the cool as cukes crew at NVRMIND paper. I’m really happy that this brand he has created has become such an underground hit. It’s not talked of much on the scentbloggosphere but you should go get your sniff on their fragrances.

Aether is a tribute by its creators to synthetic molecules and the frenzy of chemistry. Yes, Aether is a fragrance house designed around (and for the objectification of) created fragrance. Not a new concept but I love the way they move subtly sideways though even this envelope pushing genre. There are surprises to be discovered.

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Grisalva, Ambrinol, Ambroxan, Coniferan, Methyl anthranilate, Eucalyptol

Shiny dark leaves, dusty road, storm clouds, freshly waxed wooden furniture, cold silver spoon in my mouth, polar fleece pullover in the snow, pouring rain, very clean hair, early morning shop, cut grass, running cars, hot sand, popcorn and smoke. WOW! We have a real shape shifting fragrance on our hands here. I’ve now worn this fragrance three times and each time I’ve had to come back and update that list of things I smelled. I can’t tell if it’s my mood or the fragrance itself picking new facets of my smell memory to zone in on.

Each ride has been beautiful, easy, comfortable and strangely, compellingly, different.

Not a big perfume. It subtly changes the air around me, but does it in a way that makes me pay attention. I know it smells terrific, low key terrific. Not been complimented on it so far. Even when I go crazy with it, still flies under the radar. I’m going to say it’s an undercover superstar.

I’d love to hear from anyone else who has tried this to find out how it wears for them. My longevity is excellent, sillage and projection seem very small. Weird! I can smell it and it’s freaking amazing. TBH though I’ve not yet worn it to snuggle.

“NVRMIND paper is an independent fanzine about art in all its embodiments. NVRMIND paper is not guided by the rules imposed by the outside world, it’s solely governed by it’s inner impulses. (Our) paper peeps through a keyhole and doesn’t protect the seal of confession. It’s not ashamed of it, though. NVRMIND is a physical paper, something that can be touched and even smelled, all about being a niche – not mass, making art ”

“ÆTHER and NVRMIND paper share the same values of aesthetics, art, disruption, anti-conformity, sensuality and beauty quest. This collaboration between us was a evidence.”

I’ve talked about HYPÆR by Aether here on the Perfume Posse before.

Molecule 4 and a few of the CdG scents come to mind, but mostly I prefer a mix of naturals and synthetics.

    • Portia says:

      Hey TaraC,
Yes, those guys paved the way for the created aroma molecule. I think Aether takes it a leap beyond.
Also, yeah, on average a mix is good for me too.

I’m in the midst of reading Michael Crichton’s ‘Prey’ (about nanotechnology, which you know isn’t going to end well because Michael Crichton) and something about that makes me think of this perfume. Dunno why. It sounds intriguing – but it’s kinda giving me the willies.
    Or else, it’s Michael Crichton.
(love ‘cold spoon in my mouth’ – but! begs the question: what metal? Cold silver tastes very different from cold steel. I have no reference for cold gold… )

Always nice to get a surprise 🙂 I had not heard of this. I am interested in the companies that consciously do aroma chemical-only fragrances. The discussion about naturals vs aroma chemicals is always interesting, though it can get a bit heated and over the top. Love the idea of dusty roads, storm clouds and freshly waxed furniture.

      Hey Cinnamon,
Yes, the conversation can get very fraught over natural V created.
Personally I don’t care as long as it smells good. Everything else is window dressing.
This definitely smells good to me.
