Ginger Piccante by Guerlain (Aqua Allegoria)

Hey Posse. Ginger Piccante was on my radar since first hearing about it. A pepper/ginger/citrus in the light and breezy Aqua Allegoria style is exactly my cup of tea. Sign me up! I went to town and spritzed it a few times. Yes, very nice. Simple fun and refreshing. I would buy it when my work started up again. Then I completely forgot about it. Well, trolling the discounters late at night recently and found it on sale for next to nothing. Consequently it jumped into my cart (along with last weeks post Kenzo Jungle) and was checked out before I could even think twice. Well, it arrived recently and in short I’m a very happy shopper.

Ginger Piccante by Guerlain (Aqua Allegoria)

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Ginger, Bergamot, Lemon, Pepper, Rose, Cedar, White musk

First thing that needs to be said is that this is no swoon worthy, eyes rolling back in your head, must have, can’t live without it perfume. Ginger Piccante is not like that at all.

It reminds me of a tea scent more than anything. The ginger and pepper sizzle front and centre over a sweet and slightly tart, juicy citrus blend. The weighting is absolutely perfect. Also, one of the things i love about Ginger Piccante is how long this opening lasts before the heart takes over. That take over is gradual and you hardly notice the citrus fade because the next stage is a spicy, citrus tinged rose.

The heart is so pretty and vaguely functional. I can imagine this being a very expensive body wash, or if it was done with a bunch more laundry musks it could be one of those super ra sha sha detergents. Please don’t think I’m denigrating the fragrance here, I’m not. Functional fragrance has come so far forward in the 21st century and the fine fragrance sector is leaning heavily on our need to smell clean that they are becoming closer and closer.

Ginger Piccante doesn’t last forever. I get 3+ hours in the not so hot weather but the last hour is just a whisper. It is a lovely refreshing spritz though and I think you’ll be LOVING it up in the Northern Hemisphere for summer.

Surrender To Chance has samples too.

Do you need a new summer refresher that’s just a little more interesting than cologne?
Ginger Piccante will do the trick.

The trend towards ‘clean’ isn’t going away anytime soon, is it! All that being said, this does sound refreshing! xoxoxo

  • March says:

Man I feel SO out of the loop sometimes, how did I miss this? Sounds absolutely delightful! Maybe I’ll look for it after I move, packing another bottle of perfume right now sounds horrifying lol.

    • Portia says:

HA! March, how can you be horrified at missing a new release in a world of about 5,000 per annum?
Yeah, if you were to buy it then a good time would be as your new to town, easy breezy, soft focus glam girl scent. It would be a perfect fit for my imaginings of Santa Fe.

It’s been warm and sunny for past two days here. Thank goodness. Finally. I’m still doing AG Ninfeo Mio for this sort of weather. I need to buy some samples …

    • Portia says:

      Hey Cinnamon,
If your Ninfeo Mio fits the bill then no NEED for more. Want is another thing entirely.

  • Jennifer S says:

Good blind buy you think Portia? Although for a good discounted price, I’d probably take the chance lol. I also have the Origins Ginger and White Tea Ginger Lily from EA….not fully ginger but…..nice!

    • Portia says:

      JenniferS,
I never advocate for blind buys because I probably have 100 or more blind buy bottles that are just likes that never/rarely get worn. There are also at least that many I wear and adore.
If you don’t really have much summer, fizzy, fun weight fragrance then this could definitely fill a niche.
Even if you don’t love it the cost is so reasonable you’ll pass it along to a non perfumista who will go batshit crazy for it.

  • Tara C says:

Not enough heat out here in the Pacific northwest for cologne strength scents, but I could see this working well in a sweltering summer. I do like ginger – Ginger Essence from Origins is the one I wear.

  • Dina C. says:

I have a reluctant perfume-wearing friend who loves ginger, she might find this to be just the ticket. It’s not too hoity-toity for her, or too strong, or too long-lasting. I’m gonna suggest it to her! Thanks Portia!

    • Portia says:

      Hey DinaC,
      HA HA HA! Hoity Toity!
I get it. Some people don’t want all that.
Don’t forget it’s also incredibly affordable on the discounters!
