10 Years Anniversary

Hi Posse. last week Jin and I celebrated 10 years since we hooked up on a sex app. A one night stand that has gone horribly wrong. Still laughing, eating, joking, bitching and looking forward to adventures and good times. We have no illusions. These things don’t always work out in the end but till it’s time to go our separate ways we are all in, and super grateful for the chance to have something so comfortable and loving.

We did have a big trip planned to celebrate. Visiting relatives and friends in South Korea and Europe. A party here in Sydney. Covid put paid to the trip and we suddenly, about a month ago, decided we didn’t want a big party. So instead we spent the day together, just us, till i had to go to work. We slept late, gave each other works of art, had a Chinese Take Away at home together and basked in the joy of each others company and self congratulation.  You are all probably bored AF of hearing me waffle on about my great good fortune in finding such a gem. Sorry. He didn’t come along till I was 43 years old and had long given up hope of finding someone with so many good qualities.

There had been a lot of frogs. Finding a prince at that late stage was bewildering. To say the least.

10 Years with Jin

Here are the two artworks. First, Jin bought me an indigenous artwork while we were on our holiday earlier in the year. I fell in love with the pic and just by chance as we were choosing this work among a few others the artist walked into the shop and we got to meet her. She was so lovely and pleased that we loved her painting that we bought it on the spot, had it shipped home and Jin held it till our 10 Year anniversary date. I particularly love that it’s the confluence of two rivers that then travel as one to an unknown destination. Very bloody symbolic, especially given the joyous colours and fecund prosperity depicted.

10 year aniversary

The piece I gave Jin is a print of his favourite tattooist’s artwork. He has long wanted a tattoo but no one has ben properly able to realise his dream. This woman came closest and was so lovely and helpful. With the pandemic she was unable to work so did a couple of paintings that turned into very limited print runs on heavy museum quality paper to earn some money. I had it framed and you can’t really see it but the frame had a goldy/pink faux snake strip down the centre. A perfect mirroring of the snake goddesses lower regions.

Anniversary Events

We did organise to see a few of our friends on other days. Just some last minute ideas as the week rolled around. An afternoon with mates in Sydney’s Chinatown, dinner at ours with our two best girlfriends, the ones I introduced Jin to at the two week mark to see if I should, could or would continue. Lunch with a couple that Jin pushed together a few years ago that we feel very protective of. That’s it. One of our buddies took this fabulous portrait of Jin. It captures so much about him, his tastes, dickish/puckish sense of humour and his general gorgeousness. He has just finished eating a HUGE bowl of spicy noodle soup and a Boost juice. Wearing his favourite colour orange, a T-Shirt of one of his art idols Keith Haring, in an outdoor market food stall with a small group.

10 Years Perfume Purchase

Did I get anything fragrant for 10 years? Yes, I sure did. The week before our Anniversary the new Guerlain L’Art et la Matiere bottles arrived in Sydney. I got a call on the Thursday and hit our city David Jones Friday with Anna Maria. I grabbed a 200ml bottle of Santal Pao Rosa, of which I already split off nearly 100ml to defray the cost. It’s bloody gorgeous and will mark the 10 Year Anniversary forever in my head and heart. There will probably be a review in  the near future.

10 Years Santal Pao Rosa

So, there you have it. 10 years spent with someone well worthy of the time and effort.
Hope you all are doing fine too.

    P-
When I was at my darkest & most desperate I sought solace in the loveliness of you and Jin. The love you and he share helped sustain me until I could pull myself back into the light. You and he embody what couplehood should be: a mutual affection for and appreciation of each other, in ways large and small. I so appreciate your sharing that loveliness with me – and with all of us.

  • Diana says:

Congratulations to you both, Portia! Your story is way better than any fairy tale: it’s truly inspiring to know that good people aren’t doomed to spend their days and nights being awesome, albeit alone (you know what I mean). Here’s to a lot more anniversaries for you and Jin! Hopefully, you’ll get to travel next year.

PS Those artworks are absolutely marvellous, so colourful and unique!

      Hey Diana!
I know what you mean. If Jin hadn’t happened along I reckon I’d be very happily single. This is nice too.
      Glad you like the art.

One hook-up and you were well and truly hooked, in the nicest possible way. Congratulations on your wonderful ten years together and wishing you both a happy ever after. And you can’t let Jin go – ever – you’d never find another cook like him!

    • Portia says:

Ha! Cassieflower. He’s taught me all his faves. Even now, while he readies the BarBQ, it’s me doing salads in the kitchen.
You’re right though. Just another reason to keep him around.

Time to go your separate ways? I can’t imagine that. I am 52 and still alone. I gave up, too. Happy Anniversary! Much love. Thanks for sharing your joy and inspiration.

    • Portia says:

      Hey GinaT,
We’ve watched happier couples than us disintegrate. There are no promises that are so solid they’re unbreakable. We just continue grateful that we have each other, till maybe we don’t. I think it also adds to our sense of wonder that it continues.
Hoping alone is good for you. I loved it. Freedom suits me so well I never thought I’d be able to be shackled.
      So much love back.
      Portia xx

Happy anniversary to you both, congrats on 10 happy years! I love hearing about your happiness, having found my own prince later in life as well. Also love hearing about your doings around Sydney. We have wonderful memories of the city and one afternoon discovering the gems of its Chinatown.

  • Alityke says:

Sex App hook up that went terribly wrong? In the words of the song, so wrong it must be right. Ok, no idea what song or even if they are lyrics at all, but that is obviously perfect for you & Jin?
As a ‘lifer’ of 36 years with Mr Alityke may you both continue to share your life flowing together as in your lovely painting

  • Maya says:

It’s always lovely to read a happy story, and a love story to boot. Thank you. Sending a wish for you and Jin that the magic that was there from the beginning stays with you always.
