New Computer Blues and DIOR

Hey Posse, yes, a couple of months ago I bought a new computer. So now, of course, I have the New Computer Blues. My last one is ten years old and slowing down a lot. Seriously, the spinning wheel of boredom was driving me a little batshit crazy. Off to Apple, saw the genius. Asked for similar or same, preferably green. He has this very helpful advice. “Grab a terabyte of external hard drive. ” OK, so I did that, cool. It all sits around for a couple months because I’m tech-phobic and Jin & I are stupidly busy. No problem. Finally have time to open the box.

New Computer Blues

Apple are ASSHOLES. Sure, it’s super slim, weightless, green and gorgeous but there are no USB ports, no sound jack, it has like 265GB and I HATE IT! FFS. The old computer has a terabyte, multiple USB ports, a sound jack for my lovely speakers and except for its slowness was absolutely perfect. All the cords were neat and together. NOW it’s a bloody shermozzle of extra bits and pieces hanging out the back, which defeats the slim line serenity of the unit. Grrrr, Grrrr and all the GRRRRS!

So, until I can finish getting the stuff off the old computer onto an external hard drive I’m using the old one. Mildly amusingly, since its replacement arrived the bloody thing has been quicker than it’s been for well over a year.

Also, I finally bought a new printer with scanner etc. It has been a dream. My old one was 15 years old at least. This new beauty is B&W and goes like the blazes. Only moderately annoying thing is it doesn’t print two sides. Oh well, can’t have everything. The speed though! It does 20 pages in the time the old one did one. So good.

DIOR Perfumes

Well, it wouldn’t be Perfume Posse if we didn’t talk even a little fragrance.

You may notice the picture is taken in my new IKEA Billy Bookcase set Jin is building for more storage for perfumes. Yes, this office was getting to look like a perfumed minefield and there was hardly a surface bare of boxes and bottles. It has already taken nearly four days of arranging and rearranging. We can’t put the top extensions and doors on until we have the situated for life.

Remixed DIOR Trio 2022

Might have had a little self birthday splurge. SHHH!

Remixed DIOR Trio 2022 New Computer

The wrapping is always deliciously luxurious.

Remixed DIOR Trio 2022 New Computer

Yes it is! The new reimagined Captain Kurk DIOR re-releases of his original three DIOR Privé perfumes. I have large bottles of the slightly later versions of Bois d’Argent and Eau Noire, which hardly hold a candle to these beauties. I also have an 8ml sample of the Cologne Blanche. Now this beautiful box, with 40ml bottles of scent are mine.

There will be individual reviews and comparisons. All in good time. Just a little swamped here. Cinnamon wrote about the NOT Captain Kurk version of Eau Noire recently.

Have you tried the reimagined DIORs yet?

Wait. Did I miss your birthday?

    Did I?

    Crap.

    Hope not.

If I did, please don’t hate me – and allow me to wish you HAPPY! right the heck here and now, babydoll.

    HAPPY!

    xoxoxo

    • Portia says:

Yeah, no problem. We kept the birthday shenanigans low key this year.
Jin took me to the Zoo Friday day.
A crew of us had Nepalese dinner on the Friday night.
Saturday we were setting up the new cupboards.
Sunday Kath, Jin and I went for our favourite Peking Duck lunch.
      It was exactly enough celebration.
      Hug,

  • Musette says:

    OMGosh! LUH me some Billys!
and I feelsya on the computer woes. There are days when I long for rotary phones and Selectric typewriters!!!

That Dior box is glamAF, dollbaby!

    xoxo

    • Portia says:

HA HA HA HA HA! Musette, I love you.
Yes, there are times I wish for times gone by too. Thing is, they were just as fraught.

Yeah, DIOR sure knows how to make it look lavish.

  • SpringPansy says:

I guess I’m one of the few who stuck with a PC for home use and likes it (even though I do have an i-Phone and i-Pad). I have a new sleek Lenovo that has been wonderful. Good luck sorting it all out, Portia.

OTOH, I am super envious of your new Dior set – loved all three of these and never bought them. I do have VC&A’s Bois d’Iris which feels very close to Bois d’Argent for me, but I have nothing close to the others. Enjoy, enjoy!!

    • Portia says:

      Hey SpringPansy,
Jin has a Samsung and I couldn’t even imagine trying to figure it out, even the buttons are in the wrong places for me.
The DIOR isn’t cheap but I am loving the fragrances and it all looks so beautiful. Who of us will ever really need more than 40ml of anything?

I feel your pain on the new computers. Just bought a laptop for my son to take to college, had to buy a bunch of adapters so he can use stuff. It has maybe two usb-c ports and nothing else. Looks cool, though. My older laptop still has a cd -rom and ports for everything. As for Dior – I don’t have local access and I haven’t spent any $ on perfumes for several months, so I’m wayyyy behind on sniffing anything remotely new (as in 2-3 years old!)

    • Portia says:

It seems so stupid but it does mean they can charge for every extra. Still, very GRRRR! Jin won’t have a bar of Apple for this reason.
MMKinPA, do you have my email? If not, slide into my Insta DMs. I’ll send you a care pack of sniffed samples for your olfactory pleasure.

Unsurprised at all the Apple users on here. I used to have to replace my PC laptops every couple of years — outdated, flimsy, broken bits etc. Got my first Macbook in 2011 and 11 years later I’m only on my second Macbook – and the first one didn’t break, it just made more sense to buy a new one at that point than upgrade the old one again. I love the way it works with my iPhone and iPad, but yeah, I hate the way they’re getting rid of ports (did that on the iPhone as well.) Style over functionality. I would love to take a stroll through your fragrance collection, it must be glorious.

    • Portia says:

March, there is a spare bedroom here should you wish to hit the Parramatta side of Sydney. It would be absolutely brilliant to have you here.

  • Tara C says:

I feel your pain on the Apple computer, I hate mine too, don’t want to buy another one, but I love the ipad and iphone. Hope you can get it up and functional soon.

i’m really looking forward to testing the Diors but likely won’t get a chance until I go to Montreal in January. There is a new Dior boutique being built in San Diego but no idea when it will open or if they will have the perfumes.

  • Dina C. says:

Gorgeous packaging! You’re a tease not to review them now, but I understand. Yay for new bookshelves!!

    • Portia says:

      HA! Sorry DinaC,
I want to really get my head around the new DIORs before reviewing and there just does not seem to be enough time to get anything done properly lately. Hoping for a very slight shift in the paradigm that leaves me with the same amount of work and income but more free time to properly perfume.

  • Kathleen says:

I feel your computer pain! So difficult to keep up with all the tech changes. I use Apple and love my MacBook Air laptop and iPhone for personal use, but don’t ask me to change anything! Dread updates. Work I use a PC laptop and I just barely keep up with the company software etc.
I haven’t sampled the new Dior. The packaging is lovely, and looking forward to reading your reviews. Good for you for treating yourself to the new perfume and the new storage system. Happy Birthday! xoxo

  • cinnamon says:

How irritating regarding computer. I’m currently having trouble with Zoom and my MacBook’s camera. It works fine with FaceTime… I use a MacBook and a PC laptop as there are some things that are just easier on the PC. But, the MacBook is a thing of beauty and I use it for everything else. As to Eau Noire, that too is a thing of beauty. Is the new iteration anything like the old?

    • Portia says:

      Hey Cinnamon,
I only smelled the very original once at a friends. My bottle is the iteration one or two afterwards and it is lovely but the new one is deeper, richer and I don’t go nose blind to it so quickly.

  • Tom says:

I haven’t yet and it’s sill since there’s a Dior store less than a mile from me.

I hate and love Apple. I love that the stuff lasts for like 10 or more years but hate that they start dropping stuff they deem unnecessary. My spicy new MacBook Pro has 2 USB-c ports and that’s it. They just assume that everything else will be either Bluetooth or connected via interpretive dance. And I hate that there’s no SuperDrive!

    • Portia says:

Tom, I’m so old I still wish for CD burner!
Yes, Apple is very easy to be ambivalent about. Once you get it all together it’s pretty good, and I love not having to buy all the anti virus malarky.
      Portia xx

    • March says:

“interpretive dance” HAHAHA. Yeah, if I wanted to actually figure out anything involving tech, I wouldn’t be using Apple, would I?

    • AnnieA says:

Aha, “connected via interpretive dance” – all is explained…
