Heya Posse! Strangely, for a brand that has become so famous and widespread over the last few years remarkably little has been written about it here on the Posse. Initio Parfums Prives is a Dubai based French brand whose first perfumes hit the market in 2015. Yes, next year Initio is 10 years old! I can’t speak for the rest of the world but here in Australia perfume peeps have gone a little wild for it. NEO is a flanker of the bestseller Oud for Greatness and I read somewhere that it’s a collaboration with Harrod’s. During 2024 the City Perfume crew, who distribute here in Oz threw a huge party at our Circular Quay Four Seasons hotel.
When Jin smelled it he said some funny things. First that it reminded him of traditional country bathhouses in Korea. As soon as he said it, I got the reference. They have a very particular smell of woodsy soap cleanliness and the smell of thousands of men dirty and then clean. Then he said it smelled like a well presented very drunk man being brought home from the local by his wife to have dinner with the family. A scent he had loads of association with in his childhood.
Initio Oud for Greatness NEO
Featured accords include:
Agarwood, Bergamot, Lavender Orpur®, Saffron, Fir Balsam, Musk
Initio Oud for Greatness NEO smells good. I’m not a perfumer and can only go on what I smell but NEO does seem to have had some money spent on the juice. If you are not particularly an oudh fan but like the woodsy saffron perfumes of the 21st century then you will probably go into paroxysms of delight. I did. Less huge than its antecedent and much more nuanced (to my nose). It fits into the traditional paradigm for masculines but anyone and everyone can and could wear it.
NEO smells like a summer take on the original but remains deep and dark enough for wear all seasons. Still a big perfume and a little goes a long way for projection and longevity. For those that care this could easily go beast mode and skunk a whole suburb if spritzed with no care for the general public. Initio is riding the wave of bro sized fragrance, but two spritzes was well enough for me to garner compliments at work last night, double figures in a 3 hour window.
Initio’s Oud for Greatness NEO is a new fragrance. It harks back to traditional masculine perfumery. Especially the barbershop fougere but it does it in a new and beautiful way for modern sensibilities. Priced aspirationally, Initio €315, LuckyScent US$430 and City Perfume AU$598. When it goes on sale I would like a bottle but right now I’m going to eek out the sample I was given at the launch.
Sound good? Have you tried any Initio?

For those that have been celebrating this month. MERRY EVERYTHING! I hope it all went to plan and that everyone survived. If not, do share your disasters in the comments. I love a family melt down story.
I have heard of the line but haven’t tried anything from it. This doesn’t really sound like something I’d wear but I think I’d enjoy smelling it on someone , if that makes sense?
No disasters to report – I spent Christmas cooking for my non-cooking friends and it all turned out well. We had a lovely time!
Of course, today was Double Elliptical Day, since I sampled everything I made. Including the cheesy garlic biscuits, which were cheesy and garlicky, just as I’d hoped.
TOTALLY makes sense Musette, while I enjoy it and would wear it if a bottle fell into my lap, or if it was 1/2 price, but I cannot imagine spending this much on it.

I love Jin’s description! I have heard of the line but I don’t think I’ve sampled anything from it. I’ve had a nice, quiet holiday with plenty of delicious food and some new books to dive into. Hugs to you and hoping for all good things in 2025.
Heya March,
OOOOOHHH what are your books?
I just read the actor Luke Evans biography. I thought it would be too soon but it is a very real deep dive into an extraordinarily lucky life that could have turned out in disaster. AMAZING!
Now I’m rereading a YA fantasy trilogy called Blackthorn and Grim.

Hi, Posse Peeps. I had a quiet Christmas and no disasters, thanks be. I wrote that I go big on the holiday and whoa, Nellie, did I!
Initio Atomic Rose layered atop OG Oud for Greatness. All from samples. The SA suggested that layering—I’d suggest it, too, if I were making commission. To be fair, I enjoyed the combo. I started with the Oud, but it was austerely grand, and I was aiming for opulent. Atomic Rose did the trick. I’ve also previously layered it with Delina, which had the same vibe. I tried Neo, hoping I’d love the lavender, but I prefer the original. (I think Jin and I have similar taste—we both liked Roja’s Fetish Homme—waves and hugs to you across the planet)
Yesterday I could be smelled from geosynchronous orbit, but it was wonderful. I hope all your fragrant experiences are fun. Be well.
WHOA! You really did it big HemlockSillage! Amazing.
You and Jin might be scent twins.

Hey, K! Yoiks! You smelled GRAND!!!!
Hey, Miz A! The photos from our Chicago get together pop up on my screen saver and make me smile. THAT was grand fun.
I still also belly laugh thinking about your blog article about a friend spritzing her ample poitrine with Carnal Flower until her socks were wet! Ah, (dabs eyes) I don’t think my layering was to that level. My little brother woulda let me know in no uncertain terms. I chronically under apply, so it was more like a normal person’s statement perfume.
I hope. XOXO
Aspirational pricing is a good description. Haven’t tried: I assiduously avoid anything with Oud in the title. Fairly low key holiday around here, my SIL was thrilled with the Coco Mad body lotion that my son got her; he replenished my supply of Rose Jam body wash so I’m set for another year!
Yeah, if you are oudh averse then that’s probably a very wise move MMKinPA.
YIPPEE for getting someone else to brave the stench of the LUSH store. We had to walk past it on the way somewhere else on Boxing Day. Inside a MALL in and underground, airless section tripled the choking fumes. No one else seemed to even notice it.

Our Christmas was joyful, food was yummy, and everyone appreciated their gifts. I’m a happy wife and mom. I wore the dregs of a sample of Caron Parfum Sacre on Christmas Eve, and No 19 edp on Christmas Day. I’m glad you wrote about Initio; I was wondering what they were all about. This scent wouldn’t be for me, but I loved the photos and Jin’s stories.
OOOOHHHH! What a beautiful combo of scent DinaC. How gorgeous is Parfume Sacre?!?
Really glad your day went smoothly and you are content.

Happy Boxing Day. We were meant to have sunny days Xmas and today. Nope. Mizzle and grey. This is way beyond my outside price point. It does mostly sound interesting except the lavender…
Similar two days here in the Midwest – drizzly, grey, and foggy, but no snow. Yay! I enjoyed myself.
So glad you had a good time Maya.

Hiya Cinnamon,
It’s been warm and sunny for the last few days.
If lavender is a no-go then you’ll probably hate this hard.

I haven’t met an Initio fragrance that didn’t take over any & every smell in the vicinity. Even at a single spray on paper!
Maybe Neo will be the one that changes that!
Merry everything back at ya X
HA! Alityke, this is not the one.

I’ve never even heard of these, and at that price I’m not sure I’d want to. I might fall in love..
My Xmas was entirely uneventful, which was perfect.
HA! Hilarious Tom.
YAY! for uneventful Xmas. I had a meltdown and danced wildly in the light of my burning bridges. Story to come when I’ve recovered.
Portia xx
Well, looking forward to that! My feeling is that if no bones were broken and no-one ended up behind bars it was a happy Christmas..
RHoNJ-style table flipping while dramatic and expensive, counts only as a story point. Us WASPs content ourselves with cutting remarks about the centerpieces (“Really dear? Stock?”) and blaming being drunk by four on the egg nog.
Ha! So true.
