Jontue by Revlon

Hey hey Posse Peeps! I’m not sure exactly when Jontue came up in comments recently but there’s been a bottle around here for a while. I probably spritzed it a few times when it arrive and then boxed it away in the Drug Store Delights box. Next year it will celebrate 50 years of production so I thought maybe we could get in early and be ready for a huge party. My bottle is the Cologne Spray.

Whoever it was that mentioned Jontue, thanks. It had seriously slipped my mind. I’m starting my 2025 cull today and was in the Drug Store Delights box. While almost all of them are still very wearable beauties, I never do. So today I’m giving a bunch of them and the hotel soaps/shower gels/body lotions/toothbrush sets collected over the last couple of years to a girlfriend who does the basics bags for women in need. Jontue is having a last glorious 20 spritz wear. I thought you could come for the ride.

BaseNotes gives these featured accords:
Top: Bergamot, rose, chamomile, gardenia, cypress
Heart: Tuberose, ylang ylang, geranium, mimosa, sage
Base: Patchouli, musk, oakmoss, vetiver, benzoin

The opening is fresh. A little sharp woods, some herbaceousness and a sprinkle of citrus. It’s not long before some lightly breathy white florals and tropical ylang join the party. Even underneath the opening hints of oakmoss are rumbling. That lovely woodsy furriness that it brings comes forward through the heart. There amber does too.

Yes, I can tell this was made decades ago BUT it still smells good. I can’t compare it to its origins but right now Jontue is smelling so fine. As I head toward dry down the base has made itself known. A mossy amber with still some whispers of white flowers.

Nowadays Jontue feels totally unisex, even leans a bit masculine through the heart and base. Longevity is good for a cologne. I can still smell that darkish base hours later.

March and Patty used to do Drug Store perfume throwdowns.

Have you, would you, Jontue?

I never wore Jontue. It was the scent of the pretty girls at school.
I liked my chypres, so Fidji, Empreinte & Cachet were my go to back then

  • Tom says:

I would but I haven’t. And in the interest of keeping the number of “It was so cheap I HAD TO” bottles to a minimum I don’t think I want to try..

  • Neva says:

I remember Jontue vaguely because it was not “my” perfume back then. Some high school girlfriends used to wear it. I prefered Anais Anais, Eau Jeune, Eau Jeune l’oriental…

    • Portia says:

OOOHHHH! I’d never heard of the Eau Jeune range Neva. Just looked it up. Did you know they did a refurb on L’Oriental in 2021? New bottle and looks like they tweaked the formula.

I wasn’t even born yet when this was released. So I have never tried it. I was never really a drug store perfume shopper but vaguely remember when Chanel did have some offerings back in probably the later 80’s.

      Hey Eldarwen22,
      You spring chicken!
There are some very interesting finds in the drug store aisles, or were. I’m not even sure if Jontue is for sale here in Australia anymore.

I have this idea I probably tried Jontue decades ago and it just wasn’t my thing. Might be different now. It’s got some more unusual notes in there, like the chamomile and cypress (vs the ubiquitous cedar).

    • Portia says:

I wonder if you would like it Cinnamon? Maybe. It’s got a few things in it that I’m pretty sure ring your bell, but done in the drugstore style.

This was never “me” but I have smelled it and think it’s very pretty. I was probably still stuck in my Love’s Baby Soft era. (and Love’s Fresh Lemon). Glad they are going to a worthy cause <3

    Portia,
It might have been me that mentioned it. It was my favorite scent in middle school and high school, and I kept on wearing it occasionally through college. I probably went through ten bottles of it over the years. Here in the US the ad campaign for Jontue was very romantic with fields of wildflowers, a girl in a long dress, handsome man, a beautiful white horse — the whole soft filter fairy tale image. Another great drug store scent I enjoyed: Emeraude.

I think there are 3 or 4 of us here who have said that we remember Jontue very fondly. I loved it and wore it all the time for a long time. I was able to find a vintage 2 oz bottle that turned out to be in great condition. I decant it into a smaller spray bottle and use it periodically, which I just did when I read your post. So nice.
