Hey Hey Posse! As you may know, I’m mates with Nicolas Chabot and his partner Enno who created the AETHER house after being asked to do something far far away from their work with Le Galion. They took up the challenge and created a house using only captured or created molecules. Yes, a zero naturals approach, pioneered by the Molecule crew and reaching new heights with the Aether house. Sadly, my favourite from Aether has been DCd. Methaldone is gone and I’m bitterly sad about it. From them: AETHER is a tribute by its creators to synthetic molecules and the frenzy of chemistry. I recently grabbed a couple of bottles off a FB Sales Doc and Solaer is the first we’ll be looking at. I’m blown away that this is a completely unnatural creation.
The perfumer is Julien Rasquinet. You’ll know his work. He has worked with Amouage, Andrea Maack, BDK Parfums, Creed and a slew of others. Over 150 perfumes in the Parfumo database. So Solaer comes from a wealth of historic hits.
Solaer by Aether Parfums 2024

Aether gives these featured accords:
Methyl Laitone, Peach, Bitter Orange, Jasmine, Tuberose, Sandalwood, Hazelnut
How does Solaer smell? In the first minute I smell white flowers and bubble gum drizzled over a chunky sandalwood, like Le Labo Santal 33 but even thicker. The opening is fun and eclectic.
The fireworks burn off pretty quickly. Solaer then becomes a smooth balmy warmth. Lightly milky and with a fatty butter. I’m surprised vanilla isn’t a featured note.
Here is where the title comes from. The heart moving into the dry down smells like the feeling of a warm, sunny morning. Still and lovely. I’m out in the world, maybe walking the dogs or maybe on my way to the train to go see friends. Solaer smells like happy anticipation in comfortable clothes.

Here’s the thing. If I didn’t know Solaer was a fully created perfume, I’d have thought there were at least some naturals hiding in here. It all smells so alive and vibrant.
Totally unisex. Sillage is not beastly, but it is noticeable. You might be sitting next to someone for a minute before they even notice that magnificent smell is you. You can be assured that no one in your circle will smell similar. Solaer is something all its own. A fragrant change of pace and a breath of fresh air, all at once.
Are you pro or no for zero naturals in scent? Have you tried any of the AETHER range?

Sorry to be late to the party… was digging holes!
This approach
( and this perfume )sounds like a lot of fun! I would definitely try it!
You are KILLINGGGGGG ME with this one, it sounds absolutely glorious. I’m going to poke around and see if I can scare up a sample.
HA! March, you’re the best.
If you get to sniff it I’d love to hear what you think.

I remember Aether Parfums. I never tried any. To me it’s like Escentric Molecules. I only tried their first one (iso E Super) and smelled nothing. I have already mentioned my problems with synthetics and synthetic combinations so I simply stay away from perfumes that are all or mainly synthetic. The good thing is that there are still lots and lots and lots of marvelous perfumes waiting to be discovered!
So interesting Maya,
I wonder if this modern slew of created and captured might be any better for you?
Sometimes it must be nice to have a whole category of perfumery that you don’t need to try. I’m yet to find mine.

If I come across AETHER, which is not unlikely, I’ll give it a try. You never know. I always thought it was marvelous for you that the perfumes that you are positive about fall into every category, bar none.
I’d love to read your thoughts if ever you do Maya.
If I were a perfumer or art director of perfumery, as your friends are, I would relish being challenged with a brief like this.
I read an article recently about some captives that are made by upcycling waste products from other industries as well as spent naturals. It was fascinating. For me this is the most exciting area of perfumery, where chemistry enhances perfume creation.
Yeah, it’s a big deal Alityke. Did you like the ELdO one? Trash. I am Trash – Les Fleurs du Déchet. Apparentlyy they used a lot of second hand ingredients.

I lost touch with EldO. Too many new releases & names got sillier. Will see about a sample if I can find one. That’s another barrier
I am happy for perfumers to play around to their hearts’ content. Definitely all in for the joys of chemistry. This sounds interesting — to try. It’s the kind of thing I’d def grab while doing a sniff where the brand was stocked.
Reading this does make me wish I’d been a bit more intentional with my visit to Nose. There simply aren’t many outlets for serious sniffing where I am. Bit of a missed opportunity.
Another time…
Don’t beat yourself up Cinnamon. You did what you could. Can’t fight your own pace.

Oh, it’s ok, not beating myself up really — just a tiny bit frustrated that the trip wasn’t longer. Just means I’ll need to go back reasonably soon and be a bit more focused on the perfume front. At least I’ll know next time to visit Nose again and make sure I get into SL in the PR…
If you can wait 18 months we will be in Paris a few nights early October 2027.
