Wish by Chopard

Heya Posse, Cheap, Cheerful and Delicious? Make you Wish. I’ve got the answer. Available only at the discounters here in Australia nowadays. If we can still get it I’m sure you all can. My bottle was a hand me down from one of our besties, Scotty. He is a perfume lover and he came from the Trivia nights nearly 20 years ago. We have even travelled together, three weeks in an AirBnB right next to Les Halles in Paris with Anna Maria and a slew of world perfume peeps. Heady days.

Chopard brought out Wish in 1997. Yep, that means next year will be its 30th birthday. So in pre-celebration I thought we could sniff it together.

I think the colour was not so blue in the older models of Wish, mine is definitely a green greige and I have seen others this colour. Also one of the flankers was golden brown but mine is definitely the OG.

Parfumo gives these featured accords:

I definitely think the Wish perfume bottle was aimed at a person with a small collection or signature scent. Lay down bottles take WAY too much room for a perfumista. They do look good on a vanity or wardrobe shelf if not too surrounded. It’s a statement bottle. Mine gets held up in a box by other perfumes.

Opening is a slightly screechy confection. The fruits are pitched high and the throw is big. Within seconds everything calms just enough for tinned fruit salad with whipped cream to be the main contender. Still confectionary leaning but a bit more natural.

The bouquet seems to pass me by. I know there are flowers but they’re an amorphous backing player to the fruity vanilla through the heart. It sounds like a criticism but it’s not. Actually, if you were to ask me what flower is most prominent I’d say rose, so there you have it.

The dry down is not exciting, but it is pretty. An amorphous wash of vanilla cream sweetness with soft amber undertones. Nothing groundbreaking but a lovely nothing that can either be respritzed at lunchtime for a new burst of candy or make the base for something new.

Definitely leaning femme but no one has ever commented anything but favorably when I wear it as a dude. With so much masculine super sweet stuff available it kinda fits in to the current zeitgeist. Longevity and sillage are moderate or above in the first hour or so, then Wish turns into a kitty cat. If you get Wish onto your scarf or jumper it has the lifespan of uranium.
