Canturi and Tauer winner

Winner of the bottle of Andy Tauer’s new Orange star is – Janell.  Please hit the contact us link on the left, let me know your name, address, and I’ll send that on to Luckyscent, who will send you your bottle. Congrats!!!

Because Carter gave the best case for why she needs something happy, I’m going to share some of my sample with her. So re-send me your address, dear, and I’ll send you part of mine.

Canturi perfume is available exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman, introduced by an Australian jewelry brand I’ve never heard of.  Created by perfumer Kevin Verspoor, it has notes of bergamot, mandarin leaves, neroli, rose damascene, night-blooming jasmine, iris, lily of the valley, white pepper, cardamom, patchouli, red cedar, oakmoss, amber, musk and vanilla.

Canturi is really lovely.  For the winter or fall.  This makes some sense if I remember that it’s Australia and this is going into their fall and winter, yes?  It is a rich, spicy floral, very oriental.  It makes me think of Cinnabar and Opium and Poison, full of rich, warm, spicy florals, with a lush vanilla backdrop. It’s not as heavy as those, which is nice, and I could probably even wear it through May, but after that, I’m thinking a big no.  Shame.  So when fall hits and you’re wanting something new in the floriental category that is beautifully  made and warm, Canturi is it. There’s nothing groundbreaking or new here, but it’s certainly a nice entry into the oriental category. The bottle is nice as well. $140 for 100 mls at Bergdorf Goodman.

Since we could only do one winner of the Tauer bottle, let’s give away 3 samples of this to commenters.  So drop a note with whatever you’re wearing at the moment (fragrance-wise, perverts, not clothing!) and loving or hating.

  • MarkSpizer says:

    great post as usual!

  • Thea says:

I smell the remainders of yesterdays wearing of Angel by Thierry Mugler. I have decided to sell it because I smell like I am wearing someone else’s personality… not mine. I’ll still keep a sample for when I want to feel like a perfume despot. Anywhoo, I’ve realised I have floral, gourmand and oriental perfumes and they all feel a little stuffy to me for spring/summer. I would do a back-handspring for a sample of O star. (*)

  • T-Rex says:

Today I am wearing Versace The Dreamer.

  • Laura M says:

Count me in. Thanks, Patty! I was wearing Chanel No. 18, but it did fade some time ago. It is definitely good stuff: it was a test from a decant, not just a wee dab, as done previously. What a difference!

  • Joe says:

I’d love a sample since I wasn’t able to go to the ScentBar event. Right now I’m wearing a dab of L’Heure Bleue edt from a new decant — love the stuff, but I’m always askeered to wear it in public.

  • nicolibba says:

Just back from a short business trip wearing Attrape Coeur

  • zeram1 says:

Hello, how’s the patch in this one? I only ask for you don’t seem to mention smelling it in your review.

  • Sharon says:

    A spritz of Kiehls musk.

  • Nickyp says:

I am wearing Prada Infusion d’Iris for the first time. Its nice, but not too interesting. Given that we had a midday rainstorm, I wish I had gone with something earthier, like CB’s Black March.

  • dissed says:

I’m wearing Ormonde Woman, as usual. I would like to wear something new, but not many can stand up to Ormonde.

  • london says:

Musc Nomade for me this evening. It’s calming and comforting.

  • Erica says:

I’ve been going kinda fragrance nuts this spring. :”> Case in point? I’m wearing some 10 Corso Como, layered with Kiehl’s amber oil, and over THAT I have a *teeny* spritz of Hermes Equippage.

I don’t know what has gotten into me lately. But I’d love a sample, I’m in an over the top mood and I think it’d fit beautifully!

  • Lainie says:

I’m wearing Kiehl’s Chinese Flowers oil, and almost out of it. . . would love a new lovely floriental fragrance. Thank you.

  • k-scott says:

The Canturi sounds lovely. Please enter me in the draw (though perhaps not seasonal in the northern hemisphere, especially in Florida, I’ll sure wear it anyways! lol).

Today I am wearing Delrae Mythique, which I like quite a lot but for some reason just isn’t reflecting my mood today. I find myself wishing that I’d worn Ormonde Jayne Ta’if instead… Don’t you hate when you get scent remorse? You never realize what perfume you should have worn until its too late.

  • AnnieA says:

    Today it’s biehl parfumkunstwerke PC01.

  • Claudia says:

Testing out a sample of Etro’s Shaal Nur. Very warm and comfy when my work space is freezing. My hands are like ice.

  • tally says:

Wearing Honore Des Pres Bonte’s Bloom. The drydown is beautiful. Just wish it would last longer. Please enter me in the draw!
    Thanks!!

  • Linda says:

I reek of Palmer’s cocoa butter products! I’m 9 weeks pregnant and my skin has decided that “mummy” needs a double meaning… so I’m fighting the dessication with chocolatey chocolatey chocolatey lotion. I’ve been coordinating my scents with that out of pure self-preservation, so today it’s Lostmarc’h Lann-Ael, which goes surprisingly well.

  • dleep says:

Those notes sound right up my alley. I would love to be in the drawing. Today I am wearing the very simple and comforting Nemat Vanilla Musk hoping it will calm me in preparation for my yearly mammogram (eeks!).

  • old crone says:

Please enter me in the drawing…

Today I’m wearing Eau de Guerlain. I’m loving the light crisp fragrances right now. (I am in the perfume-lovers phase where I am taking time to sample everything I can get my hands on.)

I haven’t run across anything I hate yet, so in a perverse way I am looking forward to my first scrubber. (* Yes, I have sampled Angel…twice. :d )

  • Mary Beth says:

Thanks for the description of Canturi. Mum & I saw it in the BG wishbook and I’m sure her sigh was heard throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. You keep trying to explain unsniffed buys and they just don’t listen. That said, Mum is a woman whose skin produces very few olfactory mishaps.

Choice today was Calandre because 1. it’s green and 2. it was easy to get to. First thought was OJ Woman, but it’s going to his 70 or so here later & I’m not sure if it plays well with others in heat. Has anybody tried it in warmer climes?

  • gautami says:

L’ombre dans L’eau, Diptyque. It is one of my favourite Rose renditions.
Please enter me in the draw. Thanks

  • Isa says:

I’m wearing Hugo XX, a bottle that will be finished in a few days. It’s not that I dislike the juice, but I’m looking forward to finishing some of my perfumes and buy new things 🙂

Now it’s springtime and I’m craving something like FM En Passant, but I’m a big fan of warm, spicy fragrances and Canturi sounds perfect for winter!

Please, enter me in the draw. Thank you!

  • Gretchen says:

Today we’re back to rainy late winter/early spring weather here, so I’m wearing Chanel no 5 (it suits an introspective day at home,) though for the past week in sunny spring weather I was sporting the greens, Chanel no 19 and Norell. I’m curious to try Canturi, so please put my name in the hat.

  • grizzlesnort says:

Didn’t think I wanted a bottle but a sample? Yep! Today I’m wearing SMN EVA.

  • maidenbliss says:

I’m wearing PdN Maharadjah and Sacre Bleu–yes, layered. Divine. Please enter me in the draw-Canturi sounds very beautiful.

  • niina says:

Wearing Miller Harris Coeur d’Ete today. It’s smelling sweeter than it does in the winter.

  • Cheryl says:

My favourite type of perfume, warm fall orientals. (Please throw my name in!). Very curious to try. I’m wearing a vintage cologne…lucien lelong Sirocco which seems to be a beautiful ambery-oriental. It’s my wake up/cup of coffee/comfort fragrance. It’s going to be a warm moist Spring day here on the west coast..so later I may wear APOM …which is lovely and simple flowers…like orange blossoms.

  • Tiara says:

We’re on tap for a warm day here so I’m wearing Escale a Portofino. So delightful-just wish it would hang on a bit longer.

  • DinaC says:

Centauri sounds good for fall & winter. The list of notes contains lots to like, so it sounds good on paper to me. Love to be added to the drawing. :)I’m wearing a spring favorite today: Guerlain’s Apres L’Ondee edt.

  • Tara says:

Michael by Michael Kors…..my guilty pleasure!!!

  • ScentRed says:

Today I’m wearing Tosca Bianca and am thoroughly enjoying it. No one’s going to write a love sonnet based on it. Bianca won’t likely won’t hit anyone’s list of Most Movingly Profound and Complex Perfumes…but I like it and it’s just what I was looking for in a new Spring cologne. For me it falls in the same category as SMN Eva – cheerful, friendly, simple scents – but this one has incredible lasting power.

  • RusticDove says:

Even though it’s been a mild Spring, there’s a bit of a chill in the air this morning and I decided to put on a rich & cozy comfort scent – DSH Minuit. During the warm sunny days we’ve been having – I’ve been on an anything citrusy and orange blossom kick, which is what I will wear later today – not sure which one yet.

  • Musette says:

From last night: vintage My Sin extract. Wow.

    Just. wow.

    Wow.

    xo >-)

  • Marsi says:

I’ve been revisiting EL Sensuous at night for the past week or so. It’s nice to sleep in (and wake up to). Please enter me in the draw.

  • Aubrey says:

I’m wearing PdN Violette in Love. Again (from my sample). I’m not sure what clicked, but after testing it only once and thinking “meh” I’ve worn it twice in three days. Odd right? I just suddenly craved it.

I’m not normally a big fan of violet. The Borsari was one of my very first scary-scrubber experiences (the world whirled around me; that’s how much I disliked it). But this is neither candy or violet powder puffs. The citrus twist keeps it light and cooling. I’m loving it.

Canturi might be a good fit for me– even though I live in Fl, I tend to wear heavy frags at night before bed. They’re just so cozy.

  • Shelley says:

It’s too early!! Not even 7am around these parts…not wearing anything yet, haven’t even decided. Since I am headed out to meet a Friend in ‘Fume, I may go commando. Just saying. Because you know I’ll be lugging a valise of samps and such.

I’m not going to try to compete with Carter and March on the woe front. I’m going to shift tactics. Wacky stories having to do with “orange.” Like when my family was playing some sort of parlor guessing game, and my spouse was teamed with my mother, and one clues the other by excitedly saying “Orange movie.” Onlookers look stupified. The other yelps, “Tequila Sunrise!!!” And was right. WT?????????? It still mysti-stumps me.

Orange you glad I stopped by? (Start humming “Tangerine…”)
(You want bad humor, or knives and hurl? 😉 )

    • carter says:

But I know, by and by,
      that I’ll remember it:
      the sweet perfume of
      orange blossoms in summer time.

    • Shelley says:

Okay, now I’m a bad perfume person. It’s like I went to the blasted buffet and didn’t behave myself. SOMEONE who shall remain nameless whipped out, like, her whole sample and small treasure collection? Can you say candy shop? And then she’s like a pusher…”Here, no, you’ve got to try this one…and this one…and just spritz this one on some paper….” My arms are the olfactory equivalent of a kid’s face after a run down the “food concession” at a carnival. Only more sophisticated, but of course.

Worse yet, I stopped by a bricks&mortar eBay seller on the long way home, and spritzed a bottle of Samsara just to make sure that’s the juice that was inside. It was. Now me, my car, and my companions on the Interstate all are sure of that.

      It’s been a good day, but I’m slightly :-& .

Ready for |-) already; think the kids’ll make dinner tonight?

  • jen says:

I am wearing, and loving, BPAL Depraved. I found an imp in my messy kitchen cabinet and put it on before bed last night. Still one of my overall top 10.

  • Olfacta says:

ELDO Rossy de Palma, from last night. NOT the DH’s favorite, but I like it.

  • Francesca says:

I’ve been wearing En Passant, Balenciaga Paris, Ninfeo Mio (funny, I wasn’t crazy about it on paper, but like it on my skin) lately.

Don’t include me in the draw for Canturi because I got a nice samp at Sniffa. Not sure yet how I like it on me, but it smelled great on Kris, one of the other attendees.

  • March says:

ME!!! Pick me!!! I’m wearing the smell of sick child and dog vomit. 🙁

    TMI?

  • Silviafunkly says:

Cantauri sound lovely and have never seen it here, so please enter me in the draw, thanks.

    Wearing Amaranthine 😡

  • Louise says:

I’m game for this one :d/

Wearing Annette Neuffer Avicena-a stunning rose/oriental. Also loving her Narcissus Poeticus lately!

  • Lilybug says:

Ooh, please put me in the draw. With living in New Zealand, I’m currently digging out my heavier scents, especially the orientals, so I’ll be pleased for something that fits in with that and Canturi sounds good.

Today I wore SL Rousse, which I don’t find heavy. It’s my comfort, lazy day, always works scent. Love it.

  • Adrianna says:

I’m wearing Lolita Lempicka but I can’t smell it because I’ve got the flu.:((

  • Daniele says:

I just got a massive batch of samples from TPC, so I’m wearing something different every day. Today I tried Santa Maria Novella Hay, and I loved it. It smelled like a kind of ‘contentment’ to me; definitely a keeper.

In response to Helge, it’s funny that you get that from Jicky! It sounds like a lot of people do, but on me all I get is crisp green and lavender, and than a sweet, mellow drydown that has me sniffing me arm for hours. My favourite perfume of the moment, but I just don’t get that skankiness.

I’d also like to enter the draw. Perfume-wise, I am currently insatiable. 🙂

  • Helge says:

Today I’m wearing Jicky EdP, to decide whether I’m swapping it for something more wearable or keeping it. On me it’s dirtier than MKK! 😮

    • Ann N. says:

Helge, I’m with you on dirty Ms. Jicky, much to my dismay. On me it smells like a combo of bad breath and stinky feet (honest!). As it’s raining today here in ATL, I’m wearing a scent I just got from TPC: Micallef’s Note Vanillee. Very soft, warm and cuddly — yum!! Please enter me in the draw as the Canturi sounds delish. Thanks!

    • carter says:

Me too, unfortunately. But the extrait is something else again…a revelation after years of thinking I could not be buddies with Ms. Jicky.

      • Ann N. says:

So the extrait is the way to go? Perhaps I’ll give her another go then. But for sampling purposes, it’s probably Bergdorf’s or the Paris mothership, right? Ah, perhaps one day when I’m employed again and flush …

        • carter says:

I bought my bottle years ago on ebay. It was so cheap, in fact, that I simply assumed it was fake and didn’t mind taking a chance. After it arrived, I stashed it away and totally forgot about it. l-)

Then I got a great deal on the PdT and bought an absurd number of bottles, only to get it and discover that it made me smell like a ginormous walking litter box. :(|)3:-o:@)>:p:*@-)

I was bemoaning this fact :(( one day in an FB exchange with lovely Denyse >:d< and the equally lovely Dusan 😡 when d'oh #-o it hit me that I had that bottle of extrait somewhere, dug that sucker out, and Jesus, Mary and Joseph it was fantastic! <:-p So yes, I think that for some of us it may very well be the way to go 🙂

  • Monica says:

I’m wearing Prada L’eau Ambree layered over AG Mandragore.. and it’s very nice~ If I weren’t in the office I’d add another dash of Mandragore to freshen up =P

  • Flora says:

I am currently marinating in L’Air du Desert Marocain – at least I have that Tauer perfume to console myself with. 🙂

Please enter me for a Canturi sample, I have been wanting to try that for ages, and there is no Bergdorf’s around these parts. :((

  • Eric says:

Well, lessee, jeans, a polo–oh. NOT what we’re dressed in. ;3

I wore Ineke Field Notes in Paris which a week ago I was swearing off as devil’s work. Now, once past the top notes (the olfactory equivalent of a dog whistle) it smells beautiful. 12 hours later, it smells like apple pie. I don’t need a bottle but I’ll be nursing this sample.

And just a few seconds ago I found my CdG + SJ sample and good golly do I need me some of this.

Please do enter me in the draw!

  • sunnlitt says:

    It’s late here.
I was wearing Fico Di Amalfi today, but it’s more or less faded away. But, I would love to be in the draw.
    thanks..

  • Ms. Christian says:

I’m wearing Seve Exquise and wondering why no one has thought to dupe this.

    • london says:

I’m sure it’s not a dupe but there’s a DSH that’s very similar called Celadon something. What I want is a dupe of Nuit au Desert. Can anyone help there?!

  • Heidi says:

I’ve been giving my 7-year-old son odd samples out of my luckyscent boxes, things I don’t like or already have. So tonight while I was washing up in the bathroom, I groped for a towel and spilt a left-open sample vial of Tauer’s Incense Extreme all over my fingers. So I guess I’m wearing that to bed. And my son is out of an incense sample!

  • Julie says:

You can never have too many samples, right?! Today I wore my tried, trusted and true: Shalimar.

  • Roberto says:

I’d love to win a sample, right now I am wearing Creed Selection Verte.
    Thanks!

  • Kelly says:

The Canturi sounds beautiful – and right now I’m wearing Balenciaga Paris. My new Spring Love. Mmmmm, violety… and I don’t kill it off in 15 minutes!

  • carter says:

Oh, Patty, you don’t have to do that! Thank you, sweetie, but you know I was just messing around. :d After they actually start cutting into my hip (you’ll hear the screaming, I guar-an-tee) that’s when a little snifter of somethin-somethin might be just what the doctor ordered. In the meantime, I seriously encourage you NOT to encourage me…

Today I am wearing Byredo La Tulipe. Pretty stuff, as I believe you reported. Cut flowers. Nice.

  • Janet says:

Bois de Paradis by Parfum DelRae. Love it.

  • janh says:

I’m wearing some vintage Casaque that I just got in the mail today. It’s on top of my Monday work fragrance, Lady Vengeance. And I love the orientals too.

    • Cheryl says:

What’s the vintage Casaque like? Just curious!

      • janh says:

Grownup flowers, sweet but cool. It’s hard to find and they always want an arm and leg but I decided someday it will be all used up, so I sprung for a bottle perfume–just heaven.

        • Cheryl says:

I never thought of it like that. You’re right it will be all gone forever one day. So…if you love it…why not appreciate what is here. I think that is very wise.
          Good philosophy!

    • annie says:

OMG!!!!…..I wore Casaque for YEARS…my sister-in-law was wearing it,and we could only buy it in Cleveland…the remake is horrible;so I,too haunt e-bay for this:x

      • janh says:

Yep, the remake just makes you want some real Casaque. I scored a half bottle in an antique show two years ago, but that probably wont happen again. Although I keep looking!
