What Scent Are You Wearing This Holiday Season?

Hey Hey Posse. I know you guys are probably going crazy getting ready for Holiday Season. So instead of giving you a HUGE post to read I thought we could talk about what we are wearing, have worn and will wear for our events and adventures. There are so many happenings over the months on November and December. Be it office, family, friends or religious groups we all will get invited to something (we may ignore it all and recluse ourselves too, no sweat) and then the inevitable perfumista dilemma strikes. What the hell will I wear to fragrance myself for these events?

This year instead of running myself ragged with end of year parties I’ve been handing them out to my Turbo Trivia Drag Queens. They are an amazing crew and I know they all appreciate a few extra gigs around the holiday period. So this year I have only done a few of them, the ones that friends have booked for their office/friends parties.

What Scent Are You Wearing This Holiday Season?

So for the gigs I have been doing it has been Yves Saint Laurent Opium Posie de Chine. It’s a softer, more summer appropriate version of Opium and I like it very much. Same fabulous opening but more low key, so I get the burst but it doesn’t interfere with others.

Jin and my crew seem very disjointed this year. Not sure but people are far more Bah Humbug than usual and we haven’t even put up a tree. The only thing that we have organised is a dinner next week, and that’s because I started making calls. I’m going to wear Lolita Lempicka EdP from my new bottle, I go through quite a lot of this stuff, so yummy. Always wear about 15-20 spritzes of it.

All my shopping was done by September for everyone so no sweat for that, just need to get Jin a little something extra because he’s a bloody saint and I adore him.

Christmas Day will be hot here so I’m opting for Rouge Hermès, though between now and then my mind might change 400 times. This is the current forerunner though.

So this DID end up being a full post. SORRY! Well, not really sorry, you know what I mean?

Whatever you do and whoever it’s with over the holiday period, I wish you a peaceful and safe time.

I’m going to pop over to Surrender To Chance and spoil myself a little. Chat next week.

What will/have/are you wearing for the silly season in 2017?

It is chilly but not freezing in San Francisco, and I’ve been wearing a lot of Lampblack because I got a travel spray and LOOOVE it 🙂 It isn’t very festive, but wonderful nonetheless. I’ll be traveling to an even warmer place, Taipei, for Christmas day and New Years, I might take Passage d’Enfer with me because it works so well in all climates. Happy holidays, and I hope you have a lovely dinner party!

    • Portia says:

Woo Hoo Nemo! Have a wonderful time in Taipei. It sounds so thrillingly exotic to me. How ironic to wear Passage d’ender for Christmas, I’m laughing here. Good work.
Thank you, you have a great time too.

15 spritzes of LL?! Wow! I like the scent but it is a little too sweet on me most of the time. You need to be quite a character to pull it off 😀

Since my parents are divorced, my sisters and I always have two Christmas days 🙂 I’m not yet sure which perfumes to wear though. MdO Vanille would be nice, it has a certain smokey note that I think would compliment the smell of fire and heavy food at my dad’s place. Christmas at my mom’s is more cozy with games and music and watching old movies in the evening. I believe Dzing will be a good fit. Love Dzing!

    • Portia says:

      Hey Marie,
I think I’ve got “Quite A Character” under control. He He he.
Is it nice doing the two? I think if you like both your parents that could be an excellent way to really spend some solid family time.

I think on the actual day, Unum Lavs (original formulation). And at least one wearing of Fille en Aiguilles. Something sexy for New Year’s Eve, maybe RD Fetiche pour Femme.

hi Portia, the holiday happenings have been slow-going here also. I finished decorating and buying food supplies today, a bit behind schedule but good enough.

I’ve been wearing my new love, L’air du desert marocain, over and over again since the little mini flacon arrived from Switzerland a few weeks ago. It is my favorite blind buy ever. Every nose must smell this at least once. Love it or hate it, L’air du desert marocain is a singular work of art.

Eau des Merveilles is also in the mix for me this holiday season. It turns pine-y and aromatic on my skin in cold weather. So glad to see you’re looking to wear Rouge. Yes to Hermes!

Today while gift shopping I found a little store that has old Penhaligon’s tester bottles. I tried on Malabah and Amaranthine. Both of these would work nicely for a dressed-up holiday event. Now if only I had a fancy party to go to I’d be all set.

Happy holidays to you and Jin and to all good APJers around the world.

  • AnnieA says:

Ambre des Merveilles is so cozy this time of year…

I love LL, need to fish out my bottle and wear it. For the holidays I normally wear PdE Wazamba, Chopard Wish and Caron Nuit de Noel. I spent Christmas in South Africa twice in the 90’s and it was so interesting to be hot and sweaty at the beach instead of bundled up by the fire. I do prefer the snow but it was a fun experience. 🙂

  • MMKinPA says:

I like LL also, but amazed you can wear so many sprays! That many would not do on my skin! I plan on wearing my DSH holiday sampler over the next week- some really pretty options. And anything spicy and warm!

    • Oh yes, I tend to fumigate every room I walk into. Silverfish, cockroaches and flies all die instantly under the onslaught He He he.
Enjoy the DSH Holiday Sampler, there’s bound to be a few great loves hiding in there MMKinPA

I’m taking off from work between Christmas and New Year’s Day, and because perfume is mostly not appropriate for me to wear at work, I can be in hog heaven at home. I tried to like Lolita Lempicka, but didn’t care for the anise-y note. I’m a fan of vintage, so perhaps some vintage Jolie Madame. This year, I want to focus on incense, at least until Christmas morning. I have frankincense and myrrh resins which I will burn outdoors, next to our fire pit. (I hope it won’t be too windy!) Oh–I also like Alkemia Perfumes (on Etsy), who make natural perfume oils. (I have no affiliation, just a happy customer.) Have a lovely Christmas!

  • I managed to procure a bottle of no. 5 perfume circa 1940’s, full and sealed. So I will definitely be trying that little beastie out on Christmas. Also wanted to say I’m a big fan of Lolita Lempicka too, which still surprises me because I’m generally not too big a fan of those fruity sweet types, even the vintage ones from that era. But there is something about LL, when I have it on I can’t stop smelling myself, it smells so good.

      • I know!! It came in a set with Bois de Iles, Cuir de Russie and No 22, but 22 has residue only, and the other two are partially full, though all are sealed. With a set this old its a crapshoot on how they’ve fared, but I’ve yet to find an old bottle of N 5 extrait that didn’t still smell amazing (I have two bottle from the 50’s) so I’m hoping. I’ve never in my life smelled vintage Russie and haven’t smelled Bois de Iles in any form so I’m excited.

I ordered Botrytis and have fingers crossed that it arrives before the weekend. I also opted for a selection of CdG samples: Concrete, Cinnamon, and Sticky Cake, so I will be giving those a go as well. We are staying at home with no company this year (YAY!) so I will be free to do and wear as I please, and most of all enjoy the peace of the Christmas season and being at home for a change. It’s going to be fabulous!

We’re spending Christmas with my husband’s family, and I’m so excited because my 6-year-old niece asked her auntie for some “real perfume” — gah! What to choose?!? That’s so much better than the Avon Delicate Daisies or Bonne Bell Smackers I wore! I ended up buying her one of those 7ml mini-sprays of L’Artisan’s Chasse aux Papillons. I’m sure we’ll get the kiddos all hyped up with new toys and candy canes, and then the grownups will retreat and play card games and smack-talk with our adult beverages of choice. Not sure what scent I’ll wear yet, but I’m thinking my sample of MDCI Fetes Persanes. Lately, I’ve been trying to understand Chanel No 5 & Shalimar, so I’ve been wearing those a lot. Still not totally getting them, though I appreciate their structure

Have a beautiful and fragrant holiday!

Hi Portia 🙂 my family doesn’t celebrate Christmas but my husband and I have a tradition of our own that we call Bloody Mary Christmas. We make a fabulous brunch with mimosas and all the trimmings, then in the afternoon we snuggle in with bloody mary’s and snacks while watching the Bourne trilogy or Lonesome Dove or something else that has several episodes that can be watched in a day. I wear vintage Coco. My family of origin does celebrate Christmas and this is the first time without my father so my mom is alone; good friends are taking her to their house for dinner and the rest of the week, I’ll pamper her, as her caretaker will be off work. Mom’s favorite on me is Opus VI and I’m taking her a decant of Stash; she likes Shalimar on me also as it was her aunt’s signature in the 30’s and 40’s. Thanks, just felt like writing all that out, hugs!

It’s difficult for me to imagine your Christmas season is in the summer! The snow is flying here in Colorado so those dreaming of a white Christmas will have one here.I am leaving for Arizona tomorrow for milder weather. As I’m packing I’ll choose my fragrance wardrobe. No parties or events, just relaxation with my sister. You reminded me of Opium Posse de Chine, now I want to pull it out of the fragrance armoire and wear it for my travel day! I have Parfum de Marley Arthusia on my to bring list and maybe Amouage Lyric. I bought my sister M Micallef Ylang as a gift and look forward to sampling that as well.
Merry Christmas! And wishing you a fragrant and the happiest New Year.

    • Hey Kathleen,
YAY! Another Posie de Chine fan, isn’t it lovely?
You bought your sister M Micallef Ylang! She must be a good one!
I only had two London Christmases and there was snow in neither, loads of soggy sleet but no snow.
It wasn’t until 2013 that Jin and I were in Versailles Palace that snow FINALLY fell on my head. It was unutterably magical. So you can imagine snow is a HUGE thing for me.

I’m a Canadian and spent half my life with brutal winters! I don’t need anymore snow in my life, it’s all yours! ?
Yes, Posie de Chine is yummy, I’m glad you appreciate it too!
