Fancy by Jessica Simpson

Hey Posse! It seems like the Jessica Simpson brand is winding down. There have been no new releases in eons and many of her perfumes don’t seem to be available anywhere except for the ridiculously priced ones on Ebay. It’s a shame. Though most of her scents were not really my style they definitely filled a niche in the market and Fancy Nights is one of my longtime faves. When I first noticed the ranks thinning I had a small panic buy and there was the cutest 15ml of todays post Fancy. Who can resist a small size bottle for next to nothing? Even if it was utterly ghastly for me I knew I could pass it along to a fan. Thank everything we all have diverse tastes.

This is why I was talking about the Vintage Bloom Shower Gel recently. Did you notice it sold out less than an hour after the post dropped?!? Sorry if you missed out.

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Top: Apricot, Pear, Red Berries
Heart: Caramel, Gardenia, Jasmine, Roasted Almond
Base: Amber, Vanilla, Sandalwood

As you all up in the northern hemisphere head towards fall I’m thinking this might be the sugar loaded, sweet and warming fragrance that could take you well into winter. Though it doesn’t get super cold in Sydney I’ve done European winters. We’ve even been up in the mountains of Slovakia and Poland for winter. VERY COLD! This would help warm you right through.

The opening is surprisingly realistic pear with the crunchy caramel/vanilla and loads of confectionary sugars already running heavily underneath. Fancy is saved from being tooth achingly sweet by the darkly roasted almonds. They only just take the edge off but they do it perfectly.

That vanilla rich caramel heads a bit more amber-ish through the heart. More resinous and a bit dark but still sweet. Here Fancy stays. It continues to pump out caramel/amber that gets lighter and lighter. Some creamy woods do kick in right at dry down but they don’t interfere with that richness. Interestingly, on some wears, I’ve had this phantom toffee apple vibe that weaves through the dry down. It’s a very happy surprise when it comes. No, it doesn’t make a big statement. More of a kick to see if you’re still paying attention. It’s cool.

Projection and longevity are excellent. Definitely skewing towards modern women’s advertised perfume structure but definitely worth a try if you’re a guy who loves the super sweet stuff. Still available for a song on the discounts like FragranceNet (not affiliated). They have samples for under US$1.50!

Did you ever hit the oohey, gooey, caramel confection called Fancy?

Tried Fancy back in the day, recoiled at the sugar overload. Did not want to smell like my teen, or her friends. I still don’t think it would be my thing, although I’m probably more tolerant of the genre than I was at the time.

The sweet-treat scent that I myself wouldn’t be able to resist would be something that smells like almond frosting. I mean, LITERAL almond frosting. Not PoTL Luctor et Emergo (Play-Doh!), not that Carol’s Daughter almond-cookie thing (great on a blotter, all rancid-butter on my skin), not any of DSH’s almondy things. I still haven’t found it.

(I did find my perfect vanilla scent, though: CocoaPink’s Triple Vanilla Dream. Rich and really vanilla, and cheap as chips.)

  • This article provides an overview and review of Fancy by Jessica Simpson, offering a nostalgic look at the popular fragrance. The writer does a great job describing the scent, with its sweet, fruity, and gourmand notes, making it appealing to those who enjoy playful, feminine fragrances. I appreciated the discussion of how the fragrance has stood the test of time, remaining a favorite for many since its release. Overall, it’s an engaging and personal reflection on a classic celebrity perfume, perfect for fans or those curious about trying it.

She does a collection now carried by Walmart, and they carry her fragrances, too:

  • Kathleen says:

Hmmm, I think I may have a little bottle of this (or is it Fancy Nights?) somewhere in my armoire. I will take a look, I can’t recall how it smells and now intrigued. I don’t wear overly sweet perfumes; however, the notes listed and your description sound really good for fall weather. xoxo

    • Portia says:

      Heya Kathleen,
This is the sweet almond adventure, Fancy Nights is the sweet patchouli adventure. Fancy is much more confectionary leaning. Intensely so.
I’m enjoying it in Spring and I bet it would be gorgeous in autumn.

  • Musette says:

    that little bottle is ADORABLE!
but the scent doesn’t sound much like me – then again, I’m awash in cheap and cheerful coconut scents these days….

  • Dina C. says:

Sorry. No. I don’t like sweet foody scents. Not my kind of spritz. But I do love those little mini bottles.

    • Portia says:

Yeah, there are some things that will not float our boats DinaC. No biggie, there’s a LOT out there that is unsweet and unfoody. YAY!
Yes, that little bottle is CUTE!

I haven’t tried anything from Jessica Simpson. I normally avoid celebrity scents since they aren’t geared to what I like. The only celebrity perfume is Deneuve.

  • Tom says:

This doesn’t read like anything I would go for but at least it seems like its a creditable representation of the genre. JS always seemed, like SJP, to take a real hands-on approach to the things with her name on them.

  • March says:

This does not sound much like me, and I figure Jessica Simpson is ageing out of a lot of attention… on the other hand I’ve fallen for some ridiculously sweet scents in the past, so who knows? I do think the bottle is adorable.

    • Portia says:

Yeah, it’s making me sad that the young up and comers of my middle ages are already on the fame skids. Scary. Maybe I’m old…
HA! The 15ml bottle is heaven.

Y’know, I don’t think I have ever tried Fancy. Fancy Nights is a favorite in cold weather but I couldn’t find my bottle for a couple of years, so I’m looking forward to enjoying it this winter. I’ll check out Fancy sometime.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Rosarita,
LOVE that weird assed plastic patchouli in Fancy Nights. It’s like they took Shalimar and amped the patch to 1000%

  • alityke says:

    Hi Portia
I did sample Fancy & Fancy Nights fairly early in my online perfume journey. Neither were for me. Back then my tastes were only for spice, chypre, green & astrigent. I had no tolerance for sugar.

    • Portia says:

      Alityke,
I hear you. Those are still high on my priority list too, yeah even now.
I have broadened and expanded the list but Fancy is right at the line of my tolerance. So more-ish though.
