Soir dOrient by Sisley

Heya Posse! Soir dOrient by Sisley celebrates its 10th birthday in 2025. Though I never owned a bottle a friend wore it for a while, fabulously. It fit him so beautifully and I’d never dabbled much with Sisley at the time. Eau de Soir was the only one I’d tried. When I saw they had an 8ml travel on FragranceNet it was in the cart before I could think. I do love a travel size and FragNet does them affordably, this cost less than US$20 for 8ml. I thought you might like to be reminded of a fragrance that should have become a modern classic but got lost in the sprawl of newness.

A little reminder that Sisley was born of Jean-François Laporte, his 1972 first major fragrant child. He then went on to create L’Artisan Parfumeur and Maître Parfumeur et Gantier. He was a fragrant trailblazer and business genius.

Soir dOrient Sisley

Sisley gives these featured accords:
Top: Lemon Italia, Saffron accord, Galbanum
Heart: Rose Turkey, Geranium Egypt, Black Pepper
Base: Santalwood accord, Incense Somalia, Patchouli

I was thinking to take Soir dOrient on holidays in India but took Eau de Campagne instead. It felt crisper and more cooling for the super hot. Plus, I figured the scents of ex-colonial Asiatic evenings would be engulfing me anyway.

How does Soir dOrient smell? Opening is the sweet green snap of galbanum and the fizz of citrus zest, offset by the scratchy depths of saffron and pepper. It’s lovely wake up call and totally unexpected in something called Soir dOrient. Clean and fresh and sparkling like the cool mists of some Himalayan eerie. It could even be the misty autumn mornings at Shimla’s Wildflower Hall. One of the loveliest places I ever woke up. A sweet green snap of rose branches and the frosty petals warm in your hand, letting their fragrance envelope you. A rich tea rose with honeyed facets.

Soir dOrient Sisley

A unisex rose fragrance with so much beautiful greenery surrounding it. The smoky incense and earthy patchouli create a fabulous base that also has a dry woodsiness to give it lift.

Longevity is excellent and projection very good for the first couple go hours, then a slow fade through to an inky dark whisper and gone. Honesty compels me to tell you Soir dOrient smells very little like my expectation of what an Asiatic Night smells like. Maybe in some of the very remote areas, and much more like a, early morning at a mountain temple.

Have you fallen for any of the Sisley fragrances? Does Soir dOrient sound like it might fit?

    Never tried this line.

Stopping by to thank you once again, Portia, for the quiet reminder that life is full of joys, large and small.

I think my parents let me mess around with a sample of Sisley’s Eau de Campagne, or something that smelled shockingly similar, when I was really small (like 4!! years old), so I love the smell. Never tried any of their other scents, but you make this one sound really intriguing!

Another Eau de Campagne fan here. Imagine it’s 50 years old next year? Jean Claude Ellena’s first creation too. I also adore Eau de Soir. If you see either of the candles, snap them up immediately. All the bath & body goos are delicious too.
Soir d’Orient was culled in my last big down size. Beautiful but I had worn it only once in 7 years.

Huh. Our fancy cosmetic store sells Sisley but I think I’ve only ever smelled one of their fragrances? Next time I’m over there I will look for this one. I love saffron in perfume.

  • Maya says:

I’m not sure whether I have ever heard of Sisley before, so I obviously never knowingly tried any. I was probably roaming off in the direction of other perfumers and perfume houses.

    • Portia says:

Yeah, I think we all were.
It’s a very lovely house and their fragrances are all thoughtfully curated. I spent some time with the newest offerings yesterday and they are lovely. Each one is designed to reflect one of the family members tastes. The set of six smells very personal and each is quite different but all under a very inclusive umbrella. There are now two on my To Buy List.

That actually smells right up my alley! ::wait. That doesn’t sound right…::

But wow! It sounds gorgeous AND WOW! What a pedigree!!!

  • Tom says:

I haven’t but you make me want to try this one..

  • AnnieA says:

The Sisley counter at our Snobby Store was particularly intimidating, and I’d never heard about their perfumes to spur me to cross the invisible barrier. Soir d’Orient does sound very pretty.

    • Portia says:

Yes, they are a bit up themselves at the Sisley counter here too AnnieA, but I’m going to brave them today and sniff the whole range.

        Y’ALL!

        Eat Them Alllliiiive!!!

in a very mannerly way, of course. I absolutely refuse to be intimidated in a place that is purportedly designed to be luxurious. If they’re snobby I simply laugh and say ‘gimme dat!!’

        And then they do.

I have not tried Soir d’Orient. Apparently there also exists a “Wild” edition from 2018? haven’t tried that either. But we do share the love for Eau de Campagne 🙂 and I need to dig that one out and wear once more before winter.

  • Dina C. says:

What a beautiful description of the scent, Portia. I don’t recall trying any of the Sisley offerings though I have heard of them. I love a travel size too!

  • Neva says:

Hi Portia! I like Sisley’s fragrances and Soir d’Orient is no exception. It feels classic and classy, suitable for a night at the opera. My last Sisley fragrance was Eau Revee d’Hubert, which is also green but not so sharp as Soir. It is slightly sweeter because of the sweet mint note.

    • Portia says:

OOOOOHHH! I have noted the newer releases but haven’t tried them yet Neva. thanks for the tip. I’ll be in town tomorrow and will have a sniff.

I recall something Sisley having a moment a while ago. Eau de Campagne maybe. I don’t recall what it was like. Bottle art was lovely.

This sounds … pretty. And I’m certainly all in these days with pretty. And cheap is also good.
