Saturday was the big day, and I did.. nothing. I read a book. Just sat outside and read a book. “Lucia in London”, which I had not read in ages. I also bought a small cake that was on sale for $6, so if I just ended up eating a few bites and tossing it I don’t feel bad (which is what I did- it was pretty terrible)

Rodeo Drive Concours 2026
Sunday was the Father’s Day car show on Rodeo, which this year seemed to be extra well-attended. Perhaps the FIFA effect- but it did mean that 1/2 hour before it was set to begin it was stuffed with people, That and a super-loud DJ playing “Music you hated in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s” and I just took enough shots for Autoextremist.com and went back to another book.
“Mapp & Lucia” this time.

Joan Crawford in “Letty Lynton”
And since I was reading a book featuring a war waged over chintz roses I wore roses out: Lush Rose Jam shower gel and SL Fils de Berlin. It was roses, roses, roses, and it was fantastic.
I also preordered an old movie that is finally coming to DVD/BluRay. It was kept out of the public sight for 100 years due to plagiarism concerns, but now has been restored. It will be released at the end of the month.
What did you get up to over the weekend? Let us know in the comments.

Heya Tom, glad you enjoyed your birthday.
This weekend was lightly social. Saturday had Kath over for lunch, then in the evening Michael and Hyun brought their rescue pug Pancake over to meet the hounds and we fed the humans Jin’s famous Korean BarBQ. It was a belated birthday event for Hyun.
Sunday TinaG came over for lunch, tea and perfume sniffing. In the evening I hosted Trivia.
Very chill,
Portia xx
Happy birthday! Oh you KNOW how much I love the Mapp & Lucia books. I finally bought myself a fancy matched set of them. I puttered in the garden in the early am before it got wretchedly hot, then did a fair amount of reading. I always have 2 – 3 books going at once. They’re saying rain later this week and I am hoping that is true!
A good book, a rainstorm, and a fireplace. Heaven.
