Iris Bleu & Iris Blanc by L`Occitane 2015

Heya Perfume Posse! Iris Bleu & Iris Blanc by L`Occitane came out and when L’Occitane sent me a bottle to try I spritzed it once or twice and liked it, gave a bunch of it away in giveaways, put it back in its box and forgot about it. I thought it was nice. Simple, pretty, clean, fruity and not a bad scent but it certainly didn’t grab me. Let’s fast forward a bit and for some reason the crew are talking about iris and I remember Iris Bleu & Iris Blanc, it’s smell jumps to life in my brain and suddenly I’m craving it. Since then every time I am lost for choice it’s the one I grab.

Iris Bleu & Iris Blanc L`Occitane 2015

Iris Bleu & Iris Blanc L`Occitane FragranticaFragrantica

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Top: Citric notes, Black currant
Heart: White iris, Ylang-ylang, Fig milk, Peach
Base: White musk, Dalmatian iris, Cedar

One of the great things about Iris Bleu & Iris Blanc is its softly, softly, under the radar presence. You know those frags that you can satisfyingly spritz 3 on chest, 2 on back of neck and one each on wrists and still not skunk the world? Here it is. Spritz the SHIT outta it. Fearless uber spritzing. It is so fun and while you are fragrant and smell good it’s not in your face or overpowering.

Sweet fruity opening that is fun and flirty but within 15 minutes it all softens till there is the merest whisper of peach and blackcurrant (none of the screaming urinous blackcurrant of Enchanted Forest) over musk and cardboard iris. A demure fragrance that is a little bit like expensive fabric softener. I forget about it until I get occasional huffs up my shirt and then I think how lovely fresh and clean I smell. The fig makes its presence known now by adding a new fruity sweetness that manages also to be creamy,

After a couple of hours the dry down is simple musky powder, not earth shattering or new but extremely wearable. In my eyes L’Occitane has given iris a fun and youthful twist that will smell great on the young guns and still be iris enough that anyone over 30 can still enjoy its prettiness. Perfumistas will probably be a bored but once it gets you Iris Bleu & Iris Blanc can become quite addictive.

I happened to be one of the lucky recipients of your giveaway…thank you 🙂 and I quite liked its pretty floralcy, but I lean more to prim and proper irises. So I thought you may like to know that it has continued on its journey and went to the local women’s shelter in a goody bag.

    • Portia says:

That is a wonderful story JackieB. I love sending stuff to the shelter too. The goody bag idea is so excellent, a few staples and a bit of glamour can change a day.

I was surprised by how much I liked some of the L’Occitane offerings. Because it’s in my mall I thought it would be Bath and Body Works quality / Victoria’s Secret quality but I see it’s higher quality. I really liked their Fleur d’Or & Acacia, it went straight on to my wishlist. Such a glowing scent.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Peppermoon,
Yes, sometimes it’s easy to overlook stuff right under your nose. We are so indoctrinated in the perfumista world that niche is best that the available stuff all gets labelled dross. L’Occitane are great value. I agree. Most of them smell fabulous too.

I love my iris all carroty and earthy so ISM is my favorite. I love the iris in no 19 as well.

  • Ann says:

Howdy, Portia! I’m nodding my head to everything you said above; I tried this just before the holidays last year and enjoyed it immensely. Next time I’m near one of their stores, I will see if this beauty is still on the shelves here in the U.S. Thanks!

    • Portia says:

      Hey Ann,
YAY! We snap on a frag. That’s cool.
Wait till they have their online sale, it’s a great way to pick up bargains.

    Love “Fearless uber spritzing”!

My favourite iris till now has been Hiris but I’m lemming Iris Cendre really bad. I’m going to get a couple of samples from First in Fragrance to be sure I need a bottle.

    • Portia says:

      Hey there Tara,
Iris Cendre’s first hour to two hours are enchanting, so beautiful. MMMMMMM. The base is simple and comfortable too but a little tame. I love it.

I got a mini of this blind because it was iris, and enjoy very much wearing it as a bedtime scent: calming, soft, light but not the sharp, artificial kind of “light” that is usual these days. During the day, though, I think it’s not hefty enough to face the city skunk.

  • Bee says:

Hi Portia ! Thanks for the review, I have been curious about this one….I like nearly ANY type of iris, but Donna Karan Iris is prob. my fave – it’s teamed with a nice light vetiver, you can also spritz this one like crazy too! Really need a back up bottle, but alas it seems to have disappeared completely.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Bee,
Yes Iris is gone from Aussie shelves and I didn’t see it in Europe either. Maybe someone in the USA might help you out?

Bee, I’m seconding you on the DK Iris — lovely, indeed!
