Hiya Perfume Posse! A sample of Music For A While came recently in my Surrender To Chance order. We had sniffed it last year at Le Bon Marché in Paris and had a wonderful hour or so with the SA there. I think Scott and Michael both bought bottles of fragrance and she was super generous with the samples. I love how peaceful Le Bon Marché is compared to the tourist shopping. Owned by LVMH and with all the luxury brands on show but with 1/1000th of the crazy.
Music For A While by Frederic Malle 2018
Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Lavender, Patchouli, Amber, Vanilla, Pineapple, Mandarin
That crazy pineapple note on open backed up with a hefty shot of lavender is unlike anything else in perfumery. So fun and joyful. The pineapple is ripe and sweet and juicy. Contrasting so elegantly with the smooth as silk lavender and later a dark, chocolatey patchouli with hints of its earthy greenery makes my nose jump in excitement.
Not long into the life of Music For A While the whole fragrance warms through considerably and the amber and patchouli take centre stage. Lightly animal hints from the labdanum and the dark patchouli create a sweaty jungle, humus rich and resinous, heart. Quite the transition from the opening. This hums along merrily for hours, sweeter here, darker there, even some reemergences of the fruits.
Aside from the annoying name I love this. I keep imagining it on a lady exec. It works contrast to her buttoned up demeanour and clothing, giving a hint into the woman underneath and catching everyone slightly off guard. It gives her (or him, obvs) an edge, a difference and puts the others in the meeting on the back foot. Hard to think straight when you are being played across all the senses in different directions. This could easily be your secret weapon.
As you can see, I’ve thunked this sample! YAY! Now I’m thinking about a FB purchase………
