SOTD 14.8.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 14.8.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Go To It Crew.

Autoportrait by Olfactive Studio. I had a decant here somewhere, I’m sure of it. Having tidied up and rearranged my decants this last month and a bit I couldn’t find it anywhere. Then a mate had a partial bottle on her FB Sale Doc for a very reasonable price so I splurged.
So good. Tranquil, green and woodsy with a cool, lightly fruity, unburnt incense. This is one of my favourite niche houses.

Had a ZOOM meeting as seasonal perfume launch today. They sent us a box of samples and we were taken through them.
Stand out excitements: Halfeti Leather by Penhaligon’s (NEW Halfeti flanker!), Amouage Black Iris Interlude Man (Interlude Man flanker, first of two), Sel d’Argent by BDK Parfums (REALLY smells like silver sands burning under a tropical sun) and it was good to smell Costume National Homme again.
Also exciting that Roja is fully here in Oz.

Sniffing Francesca Bianchi’s Sex and the Sea just now. It’s a decant but I did ask for Falling into the Sea by Imaginary Authors. Not complaining about this mis-pick – it’s super interesting. Sweet and cosy. Iris, coconut, myrrh and vanilla.

  • Brigitte says:

Sorry to be boring but it’s Fresh White Musk again. I find it strangely comforting.

  • Portia says:

Tea for Two by L’Artisan today. I love the smoky vanilla tea, so elegant and dry. Felt quite lavish having a haircut, doing hardware and being taken to the club for lunch. Lovely day out with Jin.

  • Melanie says:

ELDO Divin’ Enfant for me today – so lovely. Don’t get the tobacco or leather. To my nose, a delightful little floral with some sweet soft orange and musk.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

Diorissimo on a hot day. Was delectable but now it’s gone so in keeping with the vintage them I’ve replaced it with 70’s chanel number 5. oh my, this is always glorious but it is incredible in the heat. who knew?

  • Portia says:

I’ve been going through the sample/decant/travel size boxes. BLOODY HELL! There is a LOT of freaking perfume in this house. I was able to downsize two boxes by organising but there needs to be a major clean out.
Somehow it has now become nearly 3.30am.
Quick spritz of L’Artisan Core d’Amour salty herbal goodness and off to bed.
    Portia xx

    • SonomaVelvet says:

Yikes, 3:30 am. It’s happened to me once in a while and I always feel like crap the next day. Hope your next day goes ok.

      • Portia says:

        No problem,
I’m very used to late nights. Jin came and woke me at 8.30am to go do stuff today. It’s been nice hanging out.

    • Brigitte says:

I’ve been reassessing our collection as well …. passing on unused bottles and making loads of decants for family and friends of our existing full bottles. With everything that’s happened I feel a strong urge to not only simplify/downsize but also bring some liquid joy into someone else’s life. Maybe you might consider doing the same, P, if your samples/decants are overwhelming you.

      • Portia says:

Yeah, that’s what I mean about a clean out. Problem is I’m really greedy and not very generous. I couldn’t hope to wear even 1/100th of this collection yet still I break out in hives at the thought of selling or sharing. It’s pathetic.
        Portia xx

        • Brigitte says:

Oh, P, you crack me up! You would have a fit if you saw how much I give away LOL

          • Portia says:

HA! Yes, there could definitely be some reconditioning lessons, I’m due.
TBH I do try. Used to do heaps of giveaways and stuff but YOU are a master gifter Brigitte.
            Portia xx

          • Brigitte says:

You are a master giver too, P!!! I was a lucky recipient of many of your gifts 🙂

  • Brigitte says:

Fresh White Musk… again…holy shite I love this stuff… I sprayed my body and my clothes..I’m not even gonna tell you how many sprays!!!!

  • Melanie says:

Falling into the Sea by Imaginary Authors – a lovely tropical scent for a winters day. Not too sweet – wafts of lemon and could it be the Lychee I’m liking.

    • Portia says:

Imaginary Authors do excellent scents Melanie. I’ve not tried Falling Into The sea but you make a good case for it. Lemming achieved!

The last of my Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Ete decant. I don’t love it but I like it a lot and I can see many times where I would enjoy wearing it. Possible FB.

    • Portia says:

Ahhhh, so pretty. You’re right though Maya. I have it, like it and only reach for it to decant so friends can try it. Probably wore it 5 times since I bought it.

Seville a l’cube today. There is something about this one that is just so thick. I don’t think I have an orange blossom that feels thicker, maybe it’s the combination with the honey? It’s gorgeous and amazing how one note can be interpreted in such different ways. The difference between the Neroli I wore yesterday and this thick piece of honey toffee cake is incredible to think the starting material is the same, flowers from an orange tree.

    • SonomaVelvet says:

hahahaha I just re read that, Seville a l’cube indeed!! Yes, a new flanker to Seville a l’aube that smells incredibly icy, like a honeyed orange blossom ice cube. oh autocorrect….

      • Portia says:

HA! I love when autocorrect strikes a blinder. This is good SV.
Yes, Seville a l’cube is in a class of its own. Seville a l’cube

  • Brigitte says:

Walked for an hour and a half while chatting with my mom and I was doused in Fresh White Musk…8 oz for five bucks….and it is absolutely amazing. Post shower might go with Bois D’Encens.

    • Portia says:

      I love you Brigitte,
Totally egalitarian. From $5 to $300 in one day. So cool, your enjoyment of both is how I think a perfumista is. Loves ALL the scents that work for them, across the board.
      Portia xx

      • Brigitte says:

I am not a snob LOL I wore super cheapies and super expensive ( at the time) my whole life. If I like something I wear it…no apologies 😉

  • Portia says:

Recently Clayton Ilolahia and I had afternoon tea and he gave me a bag of frags that he had been given as press bottles but wasn’t madly in love with. One is an Atelier Cologne with no label. Clear glass, silver lid and a yellow leather slip case. It smells like one of those ubiquitous niche bases with a very sheer smattering of white flowers and spices up top. I find it incredibly more-ish and have been giving myself spritzes to work out what’s in it, to little avail. I really like it though and it’s only 20/30ml now.

Have had a lovely day in Nest’s Midnight Fleur. Love that toasted coconut and pineapple opening. Two samples trialled in earnest yesterday – nice to have smelt but nothing I love. Nirvana Amethyst by Elizabeth & James, and Eros by Versace.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

Annick Goutal Neroli on a hot day. Only a few more wearings and I’ll have to say good bye.

  • Portia says:

Today I wore Ormonde Woman. It has been a lovely accompaniment to a sunshiny winter day.
Tonight I forgot I had trivia online but fortunately remembered when a couple of friends texted to remind me. It was all a heater skelter at the start but turned out OK.
Tonight I’m going to have a long soak in a bubble bath and wear some sweet enveloping gorgeousness. Maybe Orietal Brulant by Guerlain.
    Portia xx

    • SonomaVelvet says:

wow, you forgot!!! Who would have thought that could happen a year ago. Such strange times we’re in. Glad it all came together for you.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

Wafting Love Tuberose today. I don’t want to like this one so much because it is so very expensive but I find it gorgeous and strangely comforting. Wonder what I’ll do when the decant runs out?

  • Brigitte says:

    Love in White

    • SonomaVelvet says:

Is that the Creed Brigitte? I don’t think I’ve ever tried anything by Creed somehow but I’ve heard of that one. Do you like it? What’s it like?

      • Brigitte says:

I love it. Reminds me a bit of Cristalle and Pucci Sole 149 in that my nose and skin are getting the citrus full on ( orange) supposed to have creamy rice notes as well but in the heat and humidity the citrus was singing on my skin. Definitely full bottle worthy for me but it’s a Creed so it’s very expensive.

    • Portia says:

LOVE the bottle Love In White comes in. Always looks so clean and fresh.

    Tubereuse Couture by Parfumerie Generale.
Cool buttery gasoline style tuberose, weird and magnificently wonderful.

  • Melanie says:

A little parcel of samples has arrived – super quick round of sniffs happening. Highlights so far are Marc Jacobs Bang Bang, and Nirvana Amethyst. And something I can’t recall what I put where! That’s what happens when you have more scents than arms space! Oh well, more serious trialling will happen over next few days.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

Working on building a tree house, sawing wood and putting screws in on a gorgeous day wearing Carnal Flower of course.

    • Portia says:

WOEW! I always wanted a tree house. Just as we were getting old enough to have one the enormous liquidambar in our back yard got into the drainage and sewerage systems of the 5 neighbouring houses and had to be removed. Dark days.
Tell me about yours so I can live vicariously please SV.

  • lee says:

Very Estee today- unremarkable in all its aspects, but somehow just right for pottering in the garden shed and sowing seeds for spring.. raining and cold here

    • Portia says:

Sometimes it doesn’t have to do more than be a peaceful accompaniment to your day Lee. I have a few fragrances like that, Boy and 1957 by CHANEL and Granville by DIOR fulfil that need perfectly.

  • Maya says:

Arquiste Flor y Canto. It was love at first sniff and time has not changed my feelings for it. It’s always uplifting and makes me think of tropical islands and being carefree.

  • Fabiana says:

Paco Rabanne Erotic Me. Warm sweetened milk spilled over suede with a touch of osmanthus. No incense detected. I like it.

  • March says:

I got a Regime des Fleurs sample set to write about and I kinda want all of them, which is proving problematic. They’re all “inspired by a trip to Kauai” or whatever but man, they’re nice. Very wearable but also not something I go, well I’ve smelled THAT a thousand times. They have a fancier line as well.

  • matty1649 says:

After reading Portia’s post on Agent Provocateur, I’ve found my Fatale Pink I’m wearing it now.

  • Cinnamon says:

Vero Profumo Onda. My perfume choices are not good this week. Once again, too much for a close, humid day. Will revisit in autumn.

  • Brigitte says:

Dolce and Gabanna Red Cap….as good as I remember when I wore it decades ago.

  • Portia says:

Today Jin and I have been confined to the house awaiting our C19 test results. Jin got his a couple of hours ago and I’ve still not received mine.
So the day has been spent wafting enormous amounts of Liberté by Cacharel. My 75ml bottle has about one wear left in it. Very exciting times.

  • Troy says:

Hello, hope everyone is well. Today and yesterday I’ve been wearing Smell Bent-Gimel a Break. After hearing it mentioned in a thread. I read everything I could find out about it and snagged a bottle from eBay a few weeks ago. Love it!

    • Portia says:

      Hey Troy,
LOVE it when the hunt proves successful. Smell Bent is an excellent house doing fabulously out there stuff, as well as some very wearable new riffs on old tropes. So glad you brought them up, we don’t hear enough about them anymore.
      Portia xx

    • March says:

Like Portia said, that is the.best. It’s great that we can still find lovely, lesser known things on eBay!
