Leaping and Hopping!

Hi, eerryyone!  ‘Tis moi, Musette, filling in for Cinnamon today~  Leaping and Hopping!  That’s the temps around here – yesterday it was 81F – and a solid 81F at that – none of this ‘feels like’ stuff.  A lovely, warm almost-Autumn day!  Very sunny, so I stuck with Hawaiian Tropic so my skin doesn’t turn to scales.  Smelled fabbo, though!

Woke up to 58F and a driving rain.  I haven’t been out of the house because Driving Rain!  After my morning mat work I decided to indulge myself in some Me Time, which included picking out a fragrance to marinate in (M. Jacques does not care)

I. Do. Not. Care.

Choosing a perfume was actually more difficult that I would’ve thought – it’s chilly enough that I have on a fleece top but I’m in shorts on the bottom (granted, they’re fleece – but SHORTS!).  I looked at Ambre Grisea and it looked right back at me and asked ‘are you suuure?’ because once it’s on, it’s AWN!  And I really need to be in a cable-knit sweater – in October – for the ol’ AG.  So no joy, there.

Speaking of joy, I popped the top on vintage Joy, thinking that creaminess would work well in the sudden damp/wet chill.  Newp!  That thing leapt back in the bottle like something was after it!

Ditto the fizzies (the Lubin, that other Love & Toast Gin Blossom, etc).

It was grim, me thinking I might (gasp!) go the entire transitional day sans perfume.  Then it hit me – the perfect Summer to Autumn (even if only for a day or two) transitional perfume is my old standby, Chanel No5!  But NOT the perfume – or even the EdT.  The body cream.  Great lashings of it!  Unwearable in extreme heat, it’s perfect for this weather, where the rosiness is the perfect frame for the aldehydes, keeping them from fizzing into the stratosphere (it’s also a great time to wear Coty L’Aimant but I don’t have body cream so.. shrug)

Right now feels like Autumn is here! but this ain’t my first disco – we’re not even in October yet – so I know it’s going to soar into the 80s and 90s before we settle into a full-on cinnamon roll time of year.  So I’m going to have to figure out my transitional scents.  I’m thinking it’s the perfect time for both Cuir de Lancome and Uncle Serge’s Daim Blond; after all, they both skew ‘apricot’ to me, and now is stone fruit season so……

…speaking of stone fruit, I thought I’d lost my whole and entire mind.  On Wednesday the last of the peaches (about 100-120 of them) were at the perfect ripeness for picking, but I was jammed with work and couldn’t get to them.  Thursday am I went out to pick them … and they were all gone.  Not half, not most…ALL!  It was so strange that I thought I might’ve imagined those 100+ peaches!  Luckily a farmer friend told me of several friends of hers who’d had the same experience over the years.  Apparently SQUIRRELS! keep a close eye on ripeness and will denude a tree in a nanosecond!  Welp.  Lesson learned.  Luckily I did get some of the early peaches.

And speaking of peaches, I was going to try Mitsouko – but, to be honest, I was a bit skeered.  Mitsy is perfection itself but she’s got a vicious weasel side to her and if you put her on in the wrong temps she can beat you like you stole something!  I just wasn’t up for wrassling with her.  Mitsouko never loses.

Mitsouko

I. Never. Lose.

So.  Here’s my question for this Monday:  what do you turn to when the weather turns – but it’s just for a day or two?

Dang squirrels! As soon as I read that the peaches were gone I knew what happened. Our neighbor’s tiny orchard includes a peach tree and I’ve seen it happen. This morning I watched our neighborhood friendly groundhog sitting under an apple tree, eating his fill of the fallen apples.
I like pretty leather for transitional days, esp Bottega Veneta and Cuir de Lancome. For rainy days, Gris Clair.

    Rotten little rodents..

It cooled off here and the days are starting to get noticeably shorter. I had errands to run and slathered on the spf 15000, put on a long sleeve polo shirt ( just to keep the sun off my forearms) and took the top down.

    I wore Jicky.

  • Kathleen Smith says:

I was also wondering about the squirrels with your peaches, how they carry them off and where they store them? You’re M. Jacques is a cutie! Good to see him. We haven’t had many cool days yet, but I am counting the days to wear Arpege, Lyric, and Youth Dew with the first big drop in temp. I adore Chanel No 5 body cream, the scent lingers for hours. I always get Chanel No 5 compliments when I combine the body cream with the perfume.

  • March says:

Oh, I am so sorry those squirrels stole all your peaches, that’s terrible! I ran across a mini of SL Fleurs d’Oranger and have given that a whirl — it always makes me think of fall for some reason, that opening sweaty bit fading down to that rich orange. I think I first fell in love with it in early fall, I even remember the day. Chanel No. 5 body cream sounds perfect right now… and you’re right, Mitsy will never lose a battle.

  • Dina C. says:

    Anita,
I’m riding that knife edge of Summer into Autumn right with you. Our Virginia weather has been cooling off in the mornings, but still blazing hot in the afternoons. I’ve been turning to mossy green things like AG Heuere Exquise, Cristalle edt, and No 19. Shame on those greedy squirrels for stealing all your peaches!

    • Musette says:

      They are SUCH bassids!
Those sound like the perfect transitional greens. Cristalle always makes me so melancholy – in a good way!

      xoxo

    Hi Musette
The weather here is cold enough for the heating to be cutting in! Today there is constant drizzle too. Full on dreech! Grey & damp. The weather’s version of clinical depression. Fitting for the interment of our late Queen
Perfume wise I’m naked. Too much going on & even the Eau Extraordinaire feels intrusive.

In my head your peach/squirrel story has morphed into The Squirrel Annual Peach Festival with prizes for the best peach pie, peach cobbler & fermented peach juice. There are peach shies, reach a peach stall, toffee peaches & peach flavoured candy floss. There would be lots of squirrel sized portaloos for all that peach poop of course.

    • Musette says:

Omg. Only you could make me sad – and make me lol! within the same nanosecond!
Her Majesty is getting a fitting sendoff, weatherwise.

      xoxoxo

      • Alityke says:

Merci Beaucoup or in the case of Squirrel portaloos Mucky Buckets.
A neighbour has a grey squirrel dray in here garage & the kits are now out & about. No fear & they have little meetings in the road. They are driving the dog bonkers! Very cute to look at but an invasive species here. So much so our native red squirrels are endangered.

  • Jennifer S says:

Squirrels?! What the heck. What do they do? Eat them right there or…carry them off somewhere? That would be funny. Squirrels walking upright with peaches in their arms. Heehee. Anyway. Sorry for your loss.
    Chloe Nomade!

  • Portia says:

    Heya Musette,
We are doing the exact same thing but in the opposite direction. Yesterday was warm and windy, today grey and cold.
I’ve been reaching for some of my celebuscents. Britney Curious, SJP Stash Unspoken, Liz Diamonds and Emeralds and today it’s One Direction Our Moment. They are a perfect, thoughtless spritz and have been doing the job just fine.
    Portia xx

  • Tara C says:

I immediately reached for Dior Ambre Nuit, a rosy amber that is not too heavy or syrupy. Perfect! Daim Blond and Cuir de Lancome sound pretty good too. Maybe some Mitzah as well. I do love fall, but it’s still going to be pretty warm here in SoCal through October.
