Morn to Dusk by Eau D’Italie

Hey there Posse. A few years ago Morn to Dusk in 2015 took my breath away. Pretty sure it was a sample GWP from a Viennese perfumery/homewares store. It got put into the suitcase in a bag with the other samples collected on a European tour and when we got back I tried it and pined for a bottle for about a year. Then one of our retailers in Sydney got the range, I think it was Mecca, GRABBED it so fast and it made it to me Best Of 2016. It’s definitely a winter wear for me so I thought you lot in the freezing wastelands known as the Northern Hemisphere Winter might like it as a very warming pick me up.

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Bergamot, Lily-of-the-Valley
Heart: Vanilla
Base Musk

Seriously? I think that note list might be bogus. Here are the Eau d’Italie Morn to Dusk notes: Bergamot, Lily of the Valley, Bourbon Vanilla, Cedarwood, Musk. So only slightly off.

Also, the bottles have been updated since I got mine. Same bottle, shittier labelling and lid. Must have been a casualty of the pandemic. I do like the lilac box in the background though, pretty.

Morn to Dusk by Eau D'Italie

How does Morn to Dusk smell? Well the bergamot and lily of the valley blow by so fast I don even notice them. VANILLA! Sweet, boozy, resinous, rich and crackling like molten caramel going dark golden in the pan. So thick it’s like walking through neck high treacle. If you don’t love high octane vanilla then this will be your nemesis. Not only is it all encompassing, it lasts forever. One of the really good things about Morn to Dusk is that after the explosion of opening it settles into a beautiful warm amber vanilla that purrs along, getting a little woodier as it fades.

Perfect if you love to smell good all day into the night with no need for touch ups. By evening you will be a better than skin vanilla bomb, especially if you get a little heated dancing, jogging, horizontal marathons etc.

Vanilla smells good on almost every person on earth. If more men knew the secrets ion smelling of vanilla it could create a problem. Sure they have worn it in tandem with other notes down the decades but a vanilla soliflore is a bloody knockout on the guys. Though it’s simple, it’s also an incredibly complex scent. Vanilla has chiaroscuro but through scent. Light, dark, warm, cool, creamy, barkish and with just a hint of salt brackish.

The girls have known the secret of vanilla for a long time and use it to their advantage shamelessly.

For both sexes morn to Dusk will work. My advice is to use it sparingly. Too much is as head ache inducing as Cloud, angel of Samsara overdose.

Do you do the high octane vanillas like Morn to Dusk?

I am a big fan of vanilla, need to try this one.

  • March says:

I haven’t thought of this brand in a bit. It sounds wonderful, I love some vanilla! Not sure how I feel about their rebranding, I always found those bottles and oversized type fun and distinctive.

  • Musette says:

after years of avoiding vanilla I’ve finally succumbed to its sireen song – maybe. Shalimar has never appealed to me, but a more straightforward vanilla seems to do the trick – currently I’ve got that Anthropoligie Vanille on rotation – I use it atop Jub 25, to great effect. The right vanilla on the right man could be devastating! And I’ve got enough Menz Trouble as it is, best to keep them off the pod.

I love the original labels – they were SO… odd. The new ones are just… eh.

I’m all for men wearing vanilla as long as it’s not worn beast mode is appealing.
Anyone over spraying any vanillacentric scent should be subjected to the same effect when suffering a nauseous hangover.

    • Musette says:

LOL! ‘Beast Mode’ – reminds me of the 80s, when you could smell the Polo sillage 3 blocks away – in a high wind!!

      xoxox

    • Portia says:

HA! I’m OK with over spritzers as long as I’m wandering past rather than in close contact Alityke.
I’ll let you in on a secret. Somehow my inner subconscious can tell if my BFF or Jin have a headache coming on. EVERY time I’m with them at this as yet unspoken onslaught I sing loudly. It’s not till I’m admonished that I realise it’s happened again.
Maybe that’s what over spritzers need, a quiet reminder to desist?

      • alityke says:

Lol at the subtle cues of incipient headache making you sing loudly ( autocorrect kept changing sing to sins, sins loudly tickled me, I almost left it uncorrected).
Not sure how to politely tell an offensive oversprayer they’ve overdone it

  • rosarita says:

I would like to try this.
Parfums de Nicolai Vanille Tonka is my favorite vanilla and it lasts all day.

    • Portia says:

Oh yes Rosarita, I love it too and have a bottle. Thanks for the reminder, I’ll grab it out as Autumn arrives.

  • Lemoncake says:

I’ve been wearing Tihota lately. It’s a nice vanilla – although a co-worker said I smelled like cookies….as in he liked it. Not sure I was going for that but oh well!

    • Portia says:

HA! We never can sculpt the people around us feelings Lemoncake. Often with surprising responses.
      At least they noticed.

  • cinnamon says:

interestingly, vanilla isn’t so wonderful when you live in the grey and damp for months. I think it needs cold and sun to sing. but that’s me. I mean, I have Shalimar and wear it year-round. This sounds delicious but maybe a bit much? certainly worth trying.

    • Portia says:

OH! I didn’t know that Cinnamon, yes the grey was what sent me a little loopy in my second UK winter.
Morn to Dusk is a bit much if spritzed with a heavy hand.

  • Brian Buchanan (aka Wild Gardener) says:

Yeah, up here in the Frozen North (where it’s nine months of winter and three months of bad weather) a snuggly comfort blanket is always welcome, specially when it’s by Annick Menardo…

    • Portia says:

Heya Brian (Have you changed for preference? Do you still want Wild Gardener?)
That would be a LOT to handle. You all are tough as old boots.

  • Tom says:

Looks great, but I have SL Bois de Vanille and Guerlain SdV so I think I’m covered. But I will have to stop at ScentBar at some point and try this.
