I Fancy You by Jessica Simpson

Hey Posse. Jessica Simpson is one of my faves. I liked her music, went crazy for her as Daisy Duke and have had a long love affair with her Fancy Nights perfume. Rifling through the samples and decants for New Idea 2023 threw up a 5ml from now defunct My Perfume Samples and I’ve been wearing it since yesterday. I thought, as it’s still available fairly cheaply on the discounters, you all might like to join me for a ride. Sometimes it’s fun to jump off the niche AF hype-wagon and get a little mainstream.

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Top: Apple, Pear. Bergamot
Heart: Tuberose, Hyacinth, Lily of the valley
Base: Amber, Sandalwood, Musk

Aquatic fruits open I Fancy You. They are ripe, juicy and floating in coldest water. Do I smell apple, pear and bergamot? Not really, but a fruity melange and some cucumber and melon. It’s like one of those large water dispensers in a bar with some fruit in there to make a refreshing, slightly more interesting drink than plain water. Softly sweet and very reminiscent of those aquatic peony or cherry blossom body sprays. Pretty.

The heart is more water and the remains of the cool fruits over a bouquet of amorphous florals with a green undertone. I Fancy You is mainstream, wearable and I can imagine it being a very easy spritz and go signature fragrance. If you remember the original Juicy Couture eponymous scent, or even Paris Hilton’s Siren, um maybe I’m confusing them with Britney’s Curious, then you will know the style. They aren’t the same but have a similar summer cooling, signing loud in the car, hanging with your pals and dancing around vibe. They smell like a summer, happy love/friend/family montage in a rom/com.

Basically this is where I Fancy You stays. Those base notes don’t really show up, except maybe some white musks.

Not terrible. Very affordable and has moderate projection but excellent longevity. Anyone could wear it and to almost anywhere that fun is happening, or maybe you’re about to make it happen.

Always ready to smell a celebuscent, back in 2019 I sniffed One Direction Our Moment.

Is anyone else an I Fancy You fan?

Aquatic, no no & thrice no. Instant headache. I’m not big on pear scents either. I’m in the minority about loathing Fancy Nights too.
I love exploring cheapos & celebuscents but Jessica Simpson’s line don’t seem to be a good fit for me

  • Musette says:

I’m never anywhere these scents are – no, not Snobbing, it’s just that I’m at the back of beyond and only go to Kroger and Walmart (and the perfumes are behind locked doors at Walmart and who can be bothered with that?)
I’m going to hunt up Fancy Nights, though, because ERRYBODY seems to love that one.

I’m afraid I’m with Cinnamon on this one — aquatic notes tend to overwhelm everything else on my skin. We used to have those fruit-water dispensers in the common area at work and I was convinced they were never properly cleaned … but I 100% agree that everything scent-wise doesn’t have to be niche and/or highbrow!

I adore Fancy Nights but haven’t tried her other perfumes. I Fancy You doesn’t sound like my thing but never say never!

  • cinnamon says:

Aquatic fruity. Not my cup of tea. Pear is a note I’ve decided doesn’t work for me — it’s generally cold. Maybe this would account for the aquatic? I used to make pears poached in red wine for a fancy dessert but decided I simply don’t like pears enough to continue doing that. If I encountered this I would smell the bottle/sprayer. But I don’t think I’d want it on skin.

      Hey Cinnamon,
Pears are a tricky fruit. They have about a 30 second window when they’re not wood or pulp.
Jin introduced me to Nashi Pear and I love them. The perfect cross between an apple and a pear. YUM!

While drugstore cheapies appeal in theory I was too scarred by the scrubber Fancy Nights to ever approach another of Ms. Simpson’s offerings. !

    • Portia says:

Oh NOOOOOOOO! Poor AnnieA, Fancy Nights is one of my faves but I can imagine it attacking anyone who doesn’t like it. PLUS it’s has such longevity. You must have been dying.

Can’t say that I’ve tried this one. I do like her, but watery fruity-floral is a memory lane I don’t need to park on.
