Blue Madeleine by Atelier des Ors

Hey Posse. My love for Atelier des Ors started with their gorgeous bottles. Sadly I’m yet to splurge. One day! Today we are sniffing from a Surrender To Chance decant that arrived with Pierre Guillaume Tonka Bodykon and Guerlain Patchouli Paris. We had madeleines in France earlier in the year. Little ones came with coffee in a fancy schmancy cafe. While not my all time favourite, I may be slightly in love. I’ve even tried a few in patisseries here in Sydney. Nice… very nice, but not surrounded by Paris. Further, now when I see the word Madeleine I get a little happy memory jolt. So I ordered a decant, along with some other things. Blue Madeleine sounds like it’s going to be an aquatic gourmand, and that bottle! SWOON.

Blue Madeleine by Atelier des Ors 2024

Blue Madeleine Atelier des Ors

Atelier des Ors gives these featured accords:
Top: Bergamot, Pink Pepper, Cinnamon
Heart: Rose Centifolia, Black Tea, Milky Note
Base: Cade, Peruvian Balsam, Praline, Sandalwood

Blue Madeleine starts out much more zingy than expected. Spicy black tea with a sliver of lemon and a lump of nougat. It’s so unlike a Madeleine but also bloody more-ish. I can’t even parse what’s making it so interesting. If you told me that it was heavily artemisia I’d be nodding. Strange and gorgeous but NOTHING like a Madeleine. It’s also got zero aquatic. What the hell!?! I’m laughing at myself and preconceived assumptions that ALWAYS lead to surprise.

The heart arrives and it is cool and frosty. The tea is cold but now it is two S M (2 Sugar & Milk) and still lightly spiced. OH! I just did an arm sniff top close and the rose has arrived. Tea rose with jammy facets. FINALLY, a little whisper of the bakery but still m ore nougat than Madeleine.

Dry down is sweet black tea and a woodsy tinged amber. Interesting way to end, totally unexpected and very unusual. I’m impressed with Atelier des Ors ability to craft a whole perfume, with wildly interesting life that has real highs and lows and takes me on a journey. I could imagine Blue Madeleine being a perfect signature scent for someone who wasn’t really a perfume aficionado but who wants to subtly stand apart from the crowd. A very cool kid.

Blue Madeleine by Atelier des Ors

Projection and longevity are moderate. I’m fragrant but not overwhelming with three sprays to my forearm. For real oomph I reckon a lunchtime respritz is in order. You’ll definitely need one for after work shenanigans. Unisex leaning modern traditional feminine but excellent man wear.

I have kept asking myself while wearing Blue Madeleine if I would wear it in real life or if it would sit unspritzed. My honest thought is that if it was in the grab tray it would get wear but if I put it away it would rarely be searched for.

I wrote of Rose Omeyade here on Posse, so did Tom.

Do you thin k you might like Blue Madeleine?

It sounds like a safe bet for an office scent. Picking up the bottle, however, would elevate the start of the work day.

  • Maya says:

I have never tried any Atelier des Ors. I do love this bottle! It’s one of the prettier ones I’ve seen in a long time. Now that I think about it, I don’t think I’ve ever had a madeleine either. I think perhaps I have two good reasons or is it excuses to go to Paris now.

  • March says:

This sounds very appealing, and oh boy that bottle is STUNNING. I’ll try to remember to order up a sample from StC next time I’m nosing around on there… I do see the fragrance on FragranceNet for ~half the cost of retail.

  • Maggiecat says:

I love tea notes in perfume, so yes this appeals to me.

  • Tom says:

This reads really interesting. I love real life madeleines with tea. I think they serve them at The Huntington, which just reopened it’s tea room. When it’s later in the year and less than 100 degrees F I might wander over to Pasadena (San Marino if we’re being specific) and partake.

Tom! I love a day at Huntington. That cactus paddock is so alien. Their High Tea used to be exquisite, hope it still is. Have one of everything for me please.

I remember trying this when it came out and although I got the tea and overall it was quite lovely, madeleine was not to be found. AdO is one of my favorite houses (I love and own Lune Feline, Riviera Lazuli, Blanc Polychrome, and Choeur des Anges, and Riviera Sunrise is on the want to buy list) but I knew that if purchased Blue Madelaine, that pretty bottle would ended up only collecting dust.

    • Portia says:

Yeah, this is my worry too VerbenaLuvvr, when we have so much it really becomes an issue.
OOOH! What a lovely selection you have. So far I only have one. It just came very recently. Riviera Lazuli. Bought in the height of winter to make me remember the warmth of summer. Hoping it will get some hot weather wear too.

What a pretty bottle and box!!

    I miss Paris

Alas, the closest I get nowadays is Paris Illinois or, if I’m feeling tres adventurous, Paris Kentucky!!!

  • Dina C. says:

What a pretty packaging. Very appealing. The scent sounds lovely but not one I would wear all year round.

    • Portia says:

      Oh yeah DinaC,
      The packaging is 10/10. Gorgeous.
We perfumistas don’t really wear stuff all year, otherwise we’d hardly wear anything, eh? It might be a different story for the general public though.

Madeleines in Paris. And fancy (or not so fancy) cafes. I had a wander through the Palais Royale the last visit to Paris and next time I’m definitely getting myself an outside table at one of the cafes on the perimeter for tea and cake and some people watching!

    • cinnamon says:

The system only took part of my comment. How strange. I was saying that the box and bottle for this are lovely.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Cinnamon,
Yeah, we love to sit at Le Nemours and watch the world go by. Across the road, under the Hotel du Louvre is a very old restaurant that usually has really good Onion Soup and is not expensive.
