Hiya Posse, I know you lot in the Northern Hemisphere are warming up weather wise BUT sometimes you need a warmer fragrance for chill evenings or adventures. Also, nothing says dressed up like a rich, thick and luscious patch/amber with all the bells and whistles. Trawling the Surrender To Chance Perfume Miscellanea page recently I stumbled across this Secret Tryst manufacturers travel size and thought it sounded amazing. Cue a cart drop, add of a few more goodies and checkout. I though you might like to share my experience, spoiler alert: it’s a goodie.
Secret Tryst by Fragrance Du Bois 2021
Fragrance du Bois gives these featured accords:
Top: Saffron, Cardamom, Bergamot
Heart: Rose, Vetiver, Cedar, Jasmine
Base: Patchouli, Olibanum, Vanilla, Labdanum
Yes, you might be eye rolling about ANOTHER rose/saffron/patchouli/amber fragrance. Yes there are a lot.
I tried and fell madly in love the Fragrance du Bois PM while sniffing in London with Cinnamon back in 2023. I couldn’t afford it then and I certainly can’t now. It has been a wishlist item since; for the day I win my $20 million on one of our lotteries. It will be straight back to Harrod’s to get a bottle.
NOOOOOO! I’ve misplaced my damn decant. HA HA HA HAHA!! O M G! I’m so dizzy. Just spent the last two hours ransacking my desk, perfume room and its surrounds. I must have been called to do something else, or had a thought or a toilet stop. Such a doofus.
So here is my memory. Take your basic rose/saffron/patchouli/amber. Give it a shake. Fill it with a deep, slightly feral amber and a lilting white floral that adds a breathy but sheer floral fleshiness. I’m no perfumer but what I smelled felt expensive, as if they’d either put the really good stuff in or are so good at their job they made it feel luxe with the budget stuff. It’s a pretty big perfume so caution on the spritzes. It lasts well and has a lovely long story, ending in a rich, burnished amber/patch.
Is it worth the scullions they’re asking for it? If you’re rich, YES! Miss a meal for it? No.
WHOA! I found it!! CHEERING. It’s EXACTLY where I thought it was, and overlooked it at least 10 times. Note To Self, go away, have a cuppa, come back with fresh eyes.
So read everything I said and add that MAYBE I’d miss a meal for this beauty.

Oh this sounds absolutely lovely. I have not tried it, and maybe I should count my blessings for that. This is hysterical and I am soooooo glad you finally found the bottle, that would have driven me right up the wall!

Yeah, I’m getting more and more doddery. No worries. I’ve earned it. Also, I know if I just keep making circles of the places it could be it will turn up, eventually.

I sampled this line early on and seriously liked Santal Complet which is more amber than sandal wood, but so pretty, but by the time I could buy it, they got rid of their 50ml bottles and put everything into 100ml bottles and increased the price. Also, customer service was non-existent. I emailed (twice) and asked if the 50ml was permanently gone or if it might come back. No response. A couple of years ago, I sampled Santal Complet again. The lovely richness it had was gone. Wouldn’t want or take it for free now.

100ml is ridiculous, so is the aspirational pricing. That the changed the juice on you too. Buggers.
Fortunately I think you might have enough perfume to get you by for a while, even without theirs.

I get the – you are spam in almost regular spurts. (I got over my spam hissy fit.) I still always copy my comment before I send. If I become spam, I refresh the page several times then paste my comment and send again. If that doesn’t do it, I repeat. If that fails, I leave the site and come back and try again. One of those usually works. If not, I leave for a much longer time, come back and repeat. By then I usually get sending.

I love your enthusiasm and giddiness over a scent love! And how hilarious when it got lost on your desk! Those ditzy moments happen to us all. While that one isn’t my cup of tea, I will answer your ending question. Last week at the Chanel boutique I was resniffing all the Exclusifs as well as their main line (how fabulous that they’re ALL together now in the boutique!), and it just totally solidified how much I love that house. They use a lot of Iris in their scents, and I love it. I own 14 Chanel scents and want 5 more. No, I do not have a problem. Haha I just need to win a lottery, like you!
Oh Yes DinaC, When my Penny was in town this week we went and sniffed quite a bit of the CHANEL Les Exclusifs line. She was besotted. Such a broad range and all so beautifully done.
I’m not going to count my CHANELs but it’s nearly three boxes.

Very sadly, I do not remember this but it was a ways ago… I’m always curious about anything with saffron. I know many people find it unpleasant as a note but it works well on me. I hope you win the lottery 🙂

Travel size & minis are the way to go in my book. IF I get through 10mls or whatever within a year or so of purchase, then it may be worth the smallest full size bottle. It’s very rare it happens though.
Fragrance du Bois isn’t stocked nearby but I do like a flamboyant amber. Will keep a look out on sample sites or for a discovery set
