Hey! It’s your lucky damn day if you’re reading this – or it could be for ten of you!
The nice folks at Coty Prestige – makers of Bottega Veneta’s new perfume and Balenciaga L’Essence – sent me a press release, I of course do what I always do, beg — er, asked for samples for me and however many of you I could get them for, and they sent me generous amounts of both scents that I’m going to decant into 10 2.5 ml spray decants to give away. AND My Chanel Jersey came in as well as my personal bottle of Prada Candy. So, yeah, I’ll throw in samples of each of those in the giveaway too. Last of the bonus pack (partly as guilt because I still haven’t done that ginger thing yet) a sample, if you want it, of the vintage version of Caron’s Violette Precieuse. I wonder why I ever wear anything else? So Ten commenterss drawn at random will win.
The Bottega Veneta – what March said. Plush, luxurious leather, exactly the way those great 1k — 2k plus handbags smell like. Anyone know exactly when 2k become the new 1k for luxury handbags? Pretty soon a Birkin will be practically free at 9k. It’s a great scent, easy to wear, upscale, not pervasive enough that you’ll start smoking people out of the next cubby, and you’ll probably get asked what you’re wearing about a zillion times, and you’ll feel like the inside of a super-plush leather bag, minus all the candy wrappers and keys poking you.
I ran BV by the youngest son, who by now is used to me sticking things under his nose to get his opinion on it, elder son has never had any patience for this game, and he says he could wear it. I’m not saying he WOULD, but he has decants of Le Labo Rose 31 he takes with him everywhere. BV is not strongly feminine, just a nice soft leather. So guys shouldn’t be running the other direction on this just because they are displaying it in the women’s section. I think it would smell hot as hell on a guy. It may or may not work for you, though, cuz, well, you’re not me.
I don’t have any notes on the Balenciaga L’Essence or the Jersey yet, sorry! I spritzed quickly on both, but wound up obssessing over the BV and Prada Candy (yes, again and still).

Paper testing is pretty useless to really smell this one(paper tested at Belk day before yesterday .I think they just got it.On paper it smelled more like a new book glue,+ a whiff of licorice? The vanilla is where?)

These sound amazing. I have to admit that I’ve never even smelled a 2k handbag for comparison, but I’m sure the perfume is lovely. Even perfume is too expensive for me mostly these days. Le sigh.

Well, about the begging part, I allready asked Grain de Musc for a review of jersey, very nicely. But Chanel upset Denyse with their Blah de Chanel release.
Octavian from a 1000 fragrances is getting al tangled up in conversation’s with SA’s ,he accuses of selling rip-offs and going out of his mind over old German perfume houses presenting their rarities to detergent sellers (I loove his stories and fall over backwards by his knowledge — R.E.S.P.E.C.T)
Could anyone please review Jersey? All I could think of when I tested it was Caron but I sprayed on a few to many things and the actual bottle wasn’t there yet.
I will next week, promise! I just didn’t want to short shrift it with a quick offhand review. I tend to not be a fan of lavender in perfume. But when you say Caron, that strikes me. It’s the mix of notes in it that gives it a peppery thing? I’m going to layer it next to maybe Violette Precieuse vintage, which has a good rendition of the old Caron smells.

Ooh, sample giveaways! Yaaay! I’m really interested in both the Prada Candy and the BV – it’ll probably be months before they carry the Prada where I live (my local Shoppers Drug Mart just started carrying the Azur flanker for O de Lancome – only about what? a year and half after it was released?) and the BV might never show its face round here.

Oddly enough, I have smelled some of these. Don’t bother entering me in the draw, but here are my impressions:
Botegga Veneta was a nice enough leather scent, but if I want to smell like an expensive handbag, it is Cuir de Russie for me, or Kelly Caleche in EDP.
Balencia L’Essence did not make me think of the original and was a little harsh.
Prada Candy is very Prada and not very candy. It’s probably in better taste than I usually display. If I am going to wear a gourmand, I want a full on gourmand.
