Hot N Heavy: Oils by Attar Bazaar

It’s not pretty but it could be worse..

The heat is still on and seems like it’s going to be here for the month. Which is kind of stinky (sometimes literally) because I am a big fan of “May Grey” and it’s sister, June Gloom. Which should be my drag name.

So of all the things I have been sitting here looking at and not reviewing what am I wearing?

Musk deer?

Musk.

So I am not sure where the inspo came from, whether a comment or a thing on FacePlace but it got my attention and I ordered three that looked fun.

Amber Musk is interesting. I don’t get a lot of amber initially. It has a faintly medicinal smell that is right on the tip of my tongue but I can’t place. The amber in there isn’t the glottal one that you get in Ambre Sultan, which is a little much in this weather. Considering that the name implies all sorts of Scheherazade-style shenanigans with the nearest hot Bedouin, the actual scent is the freshest and most approachable of the three.  

Medina Musk is seems to be at the more “man” end of the spectrum, at least by the review they posted. It’s got pine and powder and citrus (I’d write pomelo to keep the alliteration going, but..) and it’s very nice. It’s also probably the most conventional, which is interesting considering..

Pearl Musk, which really should be called Pure Musk. It is just that: a pure white musk that does hold some skin aspects: you could think of it as an ode to pearl divers. Salty, clean skin and an ocean dive. I liked it.

All of these came to about $30, I think and the sample sizes will last a long time. As with a lot of musk oils, you can layer these: I can imagine using any of these on their own or to give a little bite to that, say, an Alvarez Gomez. Sprayed on over this on the way to happy hour after the beach. Or just the bathroom. It’s a Tuesday, and if that little bit of Ibiza in a bottle gets you through the Tuesday, well it’s cheaper than booze and better for your liver. That’s what I tell myself.

The only thing I didn’t care for was the shipping- not that it wasn’t fast but all those triple knotted little felt bags were a little much. I’d have preferred less frou-frou and more juice, but what I got was really nice. And these “sample” sizes are practically free at this point.
