Hi Posse crew, This week I was looking through the Indie boxes to find something fun to wear. Completely out of place I found my current and backup bottles of A Quiet Morning by Miller et Bertaux. Very annoying because my other bottles from the brand are in a completely different section of my collection. Anyway, it’s always nice to come across an old friend. Especially if it had been lost, by my own hand. Many times before I’ve noted that Miller et Bertaux are wholly underrated and deserve a much bigger share of the scentbloggosphere’s attention. Hoping to remedy that just a little today.
This bottle was bought retail in Vienna maybe 2013. It’s missing about a third, so gets use but not an everyday staple. Whenever it’s out and on my desk it gets a LOT of use. Season changes or I clean up, it gets boxed and then I don’t see it for a while.
A Quiet Morning by Miller et Bertaux 2008

We are given the following featured accords:
Turmeric, Rice, Saffron, Sandalwood, Palm Leaf, Cedar, Orange Blossom
How does A Quiet Morning smell? The first hit is a dry spice, torn bush bark and fresh hewn cedar. It’s such an interesting opening and has the nasal feeling of smelling eucalyptus, without smelling like eucalyptus. Both smooth and scratchy. Also a little bit petrochemical.
Top notes stay but evolve slowly into the heart. A dry and cool woodiness. The heart stays around for ages, almost linear. Before the whole world was using the amber woods beast mode trope this was a precursor. Dark, shadowed stone and woods that have a damp breeze, reminds me of being in secret underground water escape tunnels.
There is also a brand new leather shoes scent reference as we head towards dry down. It adds a shine and luster. lastly, many many hours later I’m left with a spicy wood that fades to nothing.

Leaning a bit traditional masculine I think it’s fully unisex and it smells wonderful on the girls who’ve tried mine. Longevity is good and sillage above average for the first couple of hours then a marked decline but still interesting and very wearable.
I wrote about Spritus/Land a few years ago here on Posse.
So, have you, or would you, wear A Quiet Morning?

Sheer perfection
I love you Musette.

I LOVE A Quiet Morning. Actually, I love several of these. I have a big sample set banging around here, I need to find them. This and Green, Green are two of my favorites along with Spiritus/Land and one of the other ones I wrote about not too long ago that surprised me.
Hiya March,
I think we’ve bonded over Miller et Bertaux before. Spiritus/Land! How is it not in every perfumistas wardrobe?

From reading this? In a heartbeat. I love Spiritus (and fought off a famous diva for my first bottle) but the house doesn’t get enough love.
And looking around they aren’t discounted anywhere. Good for them.
I did place an order for this from Surrender to Chance, as well as the other ones they stock. Love them!
They have a nice selection there Tom. I’ve not tried Like an Egyptian! OOOHHH!

WHO IS THE DIVA?!?
It was ME!!
HA!
Have it, wear it, like it ? Also have Oo oo ohm and that I love ? – Rose ?
Heya Rose,
Oo oo ohm is one I can’t remember. That name is awesome. What is it like?

Love the name of this perfume.
This house has popped up over and over but I’ve never focused on it. I guess that needs to be rectified.
Hey Cinnamon,
There is only so much perfume we can smell. If we start beating ourselves up about not smelling EVERYTHING it will end up a big bloody mess.
If you come across them though I do recommend some real sniff time. They push envelopes but keep it wearable, and not super gimmicky.

Portia,
I’ve never had the opportunity to sniff A Quiet Morning. But I completely agree that Miller et Bertaux needs more love. Green x4 was my first niche scent purchase, and I still love it. The bottles are heavy-ish and smooth, and the sprayer mechanism works beautifully delivering a large mist.
Woo Hoo! DinaC! How good is Green?!? So beautiful. Now I have to find the rest of my MetB stash and wear it.
Agree on the bottles. It’s my favourite off the rack perfume bottle. Was devastated when Grandiflora changed from these to that awful, super budget looking, black bottle.
