Aoud Blanc by DSH Perfumes

Hiya Posse! The other day I had the carpets steam cleaned. This meant I had to get as much furniture, floor wardrobe, junk/objet d’art off the carpets and out of the way. Under a chest of drawers I found a small sample rollerball vial of fragrance. It was a dark bottle with teeny tiny white writing. I knew it must be a DSH Perfume but couldn’t read the damn writing so I decided to just apply some and smell what it’s like. How did I miss this strange yet familiar beauty when it arrived. Aoud Blanc is the name and it is back for a VERY limited 2020/1 run because so many people were begging for it’s return. Let me tell you about it.

This is 100% unisex. A softer version of oudh, less confrontational, more wearable and a lovely look at THE base note of the late 20th century. Excellent longevity and moderate village. Aoud Blanc is a winner for me.

I chat often about DSH Perfumes, here’s my last piece on New Arrivals..

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Bergamot, Saffron absolute, Peach skin, Taif rose, White oud, Suede, Jasmine sambac, Osmanthus absolute, Orris concrete, Honey, French beeswax, Mysore sandalwood, Australian sandalwood, Ambrette seed

You can buy the Limited Edition Oud In Chairoscuro Set at DSH Perfumestill January 12 2021.  Link fully operational again!

Citrus, band aids, white flowers and honey open Aoud Blanc. There is a little super sweet wee on the breeze. None of the fecal oudh notes as in the more pungent and feral Middle eastern formulas. This is a very pretty version of the oudh story and hints to me of a luxurious version of Aoud Lime by Montale (one of my faves from the house).

As we head towards Aoud Blancs heart honey takes the lead. A rich, sweet, multifaceted honey given extra shape and heft by all the bit players. At this point I can’t parse what’s making this honey so exceptional. The layers and intricacy of the fragrance are so perfectly balanced that my nose smells a whole perfume with a honeyed overlay. I wish I had a bottle here. I could spritz heavily and go lie somewhere quietly and let the story roll over me in large letters. This heart lasts for hours.

Into the latter stages of dry down the citrus makes a reappearance. It’s a happy and welcome surprise. Lifting the woods and oudh as they trail off to nothing.

My Aoud Blanc review is from a sample rollerball vial that came in one of the 2020 seasonal packs I bought from DSH Perfumes.

You going to grab this beauty?

    • Portia says:

      Hey Marzipan,
No. It didn’t take off and was slowly but surely wasting away to nothing.
I’m a “Use it or Lose it” kinda guy.

Bandaids — ah, now that’s an interesting note. I’m sure I’ve sampled something else that has it, but I can’t recall what. You can’t really get DSH stuff here, alas.

    • Portia says:

      Heya Cinnamon,
Yes, I buy the multi sample set that arrives in about 6 batches a year. You get about 1ml in a roller ball of all the new stuff, and some favourites. It’s an amazing way to get your nose on some DSH Perfumes.

I love the idea of citrus and bandaids! Trying to imagine what that smells like!

      Hey Musette,
HA! Yeah, it’s not a common crossover, I imagine.
It’s so good to have you as my first commenter of 2021. YAY! It’s already a special year.
      Hugs,
